Bendpak SP 7x owners - I need help

I am planning a recessed SP 7x in my new build. The forms for the recessed lift pit will be formed shortly and I am looking for some guidance on location. I have only 24 feet of depth to work with and I am looking for the perfect location in that space. I want to make sure I have enough room for a 2' work bench in front of vehicles on the lift and also be able to close the garage doors.

Any current owners have the perfect dimensions in a 24' space?

Thanks in advance for your help - this site has been an inspiration.

Hello Dave,

I am going through a similar process trying to sort out placement for an SP7X. My depth is about 28 feet. My width is 14 feet. I have a ceiling of a little over 12 feet.

So far what I am planning is to have the rear most extent of the lifting platforms (the parts that actually engage the frame of the car and go up in the air) located about 9 feet forward of the garage door opening. I come to that distance by first determining the rear most lift point on an old 911, and then lining that up with the rear most extent of the lifting platform. From that point I then measured to end of the rear bumper of the 911, which is about 57 inches. That distance is the amount that the back of the 911 is going to hang over the rear of the lift platforms. I then wanted at least 4 feet behind the 911 as clear work space with the garage door closed. So I add to that 57 inches of overhang 48 inches of work space and get 105 inches (8 3/4'). Because I like to work with even numbers I am rounding that up to 9 feet. So the distance then between the rear of the SP7X and the garage door will be 9 feet.

With the lift in that position on the floor I have also done some figuring relating to a full size Sierra extended cab. Turn outs out I will be able to get a Sierra in and get the garage door closed, though it will be tight. However, as the space is primarily to be used for small cars up to a mid-size SUV, a tight fit for a Sierra is fine.

If this makes no sense, let me know and I will try to do a sketch, scan and post it.

I too am planning to add a SP-7X soon in the center bay with similar depth. My garage is 28ft deep and am kinda wondering how far in to put it. I work on mostly smaller cars and minitrucks, but do service my chevy express van regularly and also don't want to short change the space for potential of working on more full size stuff if I need to.

I've seen a few flush mounted installs not sure of the depths of the space they got installed in.

Working out garage logistics is certainly something new for me. My advice may well be worth diddly-squat. Just look at my low number of posts! But for me, after doing a lot of thinking about where to place the lift, it seems that the key with limited space is to think about what vehicles you will be lifting most often and then work from there. I want to be able to lift and work around a 911 or a little bigger car with ease. I therefore initially focused my planned lift placement on that car, leading to the process I set out above. (Perhaps another more straightforward way of putting what I wrote out above is that I notionally placed the 911's rear bumper 4 feet in front of the garage door and then placed the SP7X under the 911's lifting points.) I then checked the lifting points of the biggest vehicle I will ever expect to put on the lift, a Sierra, and determined where it would sit in the garage when placed on the lift in the location based on what is optimal for the 911. As it turned out, it seems that what is ample room for a 911 is just enough for a Sierra. To do all this I worked with the floor plan for my garage and then made little scale paper rectangles representing the length and width of the smallest and largest vehicles to see how everything fit. Those little rectangles are key for me. Not being skilled with software, playing with the paper was what I had to do to satisfy myself about the lift's location.

Park the vehicle were it will fit, tape around the outline figure if the lift pads fit.....mark off and measure where everything else is going.....draw up plans based on where it all fits.

Same as everyone else here. Planning on a flush mounted sp-7x. My question is how far forward or aft does the car move in relation to the original floor position when the scissors go to full height. On my mid rise lift the whole car shifts back about a foot from the original floor position. And is the aprox 107" total length with the ramps or without. Thanks for any help you can provide on the weekend.

I am pulling up a slightly old thread.

I am looking at a Bendpak SP7X as well. I was curious if any of the folks in the thread had success with their install and what they would do differently if they were starting new.

In the same boat and wondering if any of these installs happened and any tips if they did.

Specifically I'm looking to bury the lines from the control box to the lift and any details would be great. Like:
Size of pipe used for the buried lines?
Did you include a pull string to pull the lines when it came time to install the lift?
How flexible are the lines?
did you bring the lines up directly in to the base of the control box?

I'm planning on taking pictures and posting them here, so hopefully I can help others in the future. In the mean time I would really appreciate any input from existing owners.

I have one in my garage, and it fits perfectly. No problem lifting any of my three vehicles which are all different in size. I can park two cars side by side as well. Perfect lift in my opinion!
