got this for 19.98 because there were 2 pennies mixed in with the lot of junk.
ive never seen these types of drawer trim on a craftsman box. looks more like what torin uses, but i think they are both waterloo?

pile or nails, screws, wire nuts, coax fittings, usual junk electrical and plumbing items from kits that never get used, but there was some good tools hiding in the lot.

SK long magnetic driver. its 29.99 for it alone new.
dasco pro nail set. it looks unused.
couple of service wrenches and a handle with a locknut to hold service wreches. never seen one of these before. dont use them much but will keep me from digging a thin wrench into my fat fingers.
3/8 x 7/16 double box proto
cman double open end
esco 3/4 wobble, its brand new.
indestro super 7/16 combo
stanley 15mm reverisble ratchet wrench
harbor freight composite ratchet. love the old style much better than new. im glad i found another.
10" channellocks
the other stuff is offbrand, but its tools. :)

two stops today the first was a return/repick from yesterday's estate sale. I always seem to find some missed items and I had the storage cabinet on my mind as I passed up one a few weeks ago.Total at this stop was $25.00

I don't know what ,if anything is in the safe area as it's locked and I've got to figure out how to open it.
Suggestions welcome,I'd like to make it useable and have a combination lock ,but I'm not gonna pay a fortune to find it out.

Stop two was a garage sale/toolbox listed on CL . No picture and asking $300.
Guy sent a couple pics after I texted and with some wrangling and logistics ended up with this:

I found the key for the Craftsman top but have struck out so far on the keys for the Matco boxes. There is a lower cabinet,a side cabinet,a mid cabinet,(doesn't match color and seems bigger) and the C'man top which is bigger and heavier than most any C'man I've seen. Has a full flip/pull down face that locks it shut like the MBC/Snap On of old.
Only three ratchets a C'man round top 1/2" dr,a C'man RHFT 1/2" dr and a Snap On 1/4" ratchet that needs a soaking/possible rebuilding.
Sockets, rails, wrenches still unsorted but all sockets appear to be Craftsman with some Snap On mixed in.There are some Park tools which I think is bike stuff?????Its gonna take awhile to clean and organize but it should flip well.

Wow guys, you've been busy this week. I stopped at one estate sale and here's what I came out with. My favorites are the Two sided Crescent wrench and of course the Volume 1/2" ratchet made by J.H. Williams. :deathmeta

Finally got something worth posting today. Only one yard sale had any tools this morning (Picture 1): Two Craftsman Tool Boxes with trays, Three Peterson 10R Vise Grips, craftsman 6" vise grips, and 15" Crescent brand wench. All for $10.

On my way to an afternoon auction, I stopped by the scrap yard and got the Parker 63 1/2 and the no name drill press vise for only $1.20 (picture 2). He traded me scrap for scrap.

At the auction, one of my better buys was the Roper Whitney ** hand punch for $32.50 and no name hand punch for $7.00 (picture 3). I have more items from the auction still to sort though.

For you guys in the big cities, I know this don't seem like much, but for me in a small town, this was the best day of the summer so far.

Damn Alinc. I'm going to have to start making trips over the Ohio/Michigan boarder!
Another nice haul.

Nope sorry border crossing is closed. seems to me you've found alot of Snap On in recent months. I've got to get my quota for the season as I expect to be back to work in 2-3 weeks and then the estate sales are non-existant/picked through before I can ever get there. you can look above and see the quality of the stuff Rickster gets and it leaves slim pickings for the rest of us.:lol_hitti

You also got one of the rare dual marked Plvmb/Proto wrenches!

Yes indeed, I wouldn't mind a whole set at that length.

3bay we should trade some of those goodies for this really rare one of a kind Williams ratchet I found:lol:
Seriously though if you want a closer look at that ratchet I could be persuaded to box it up.

Sgs, great score! I love swapping scrap for usable tools and looks like you did well. Try wire brushing that drill press vise, a brand name may just appear.

Dang nice stuff Alinc. Is that matco middle box 27 or 33" wide? Those side cabinents are nice, much better built than the snap on version IMHO.

Dang Alinc  I think that's craftsman road chest, may be wrong but those deeper boxes are heavier duty than the 12". So many tools too, YOU ****!!!

It's one of their deeper boxes not a road chest and not nearly as sturdy as a snap on version. The deep drawer oil can very easily. Never again. IMHO.

Randomly checked Craigslist for garage sales and found this 4 miles from my house:

"We are selling the contents of my parents home, barn and my father's workshop. Sale includes vintage and antique tools, antique and modern furniture, and all the things one finds tucked in the corners of home that has been lived in for 60+ years. Vintage books, dolls, kitchenware,Wicker porch set. Lathe, Arbor press, 1940's lawn mower. Vintage wooden tool boxes. Antique farm implements. Something for everyone!"

Yeah, I was on it in a hot minute, with my wife in tow. Got there early and sure enough the early birds were swarming. Lots of really cool old tools, lawn equipment, just as advertised. Speaking with the adult son, I learned that Dad had been in the engineering field in the defense industry and was an inveterate tinkerer. Both parents had passed away, and they decided they were ready to start going through the property and clearing out years of accumulated tools, materials and stuff.

The prices were mostly at the "get it out of here" level. I could have filled the truck bed twice over, but here's what I came away with.

A collection of old wrenches, pliers, punches and screwdrivers, plus the metal box on the left. Total price: $10 Mouse nest included at no charge :)

A caliper set, looks to be hand-inscribed with "CS Eastbrooks Made in USA 1942" Total Price" $10

And finally, the big score: a 10K South Bend Lathe with the stand and a box of tooling, some still new in box. Total Price $150

I've been watching for a lathe for a long time and was prepared to pay more if it started and ran, but at that price I didn't have to bother - I just said "I'll take it!" All of the parts rotate and move - it's dusty, but it appears to be functional. Now, I just have to learn to use it!

Estate sale in the neighborhood. Went on Saturday and this wire rack/shelf was $70. Thought no way. Went back on Sunday $35. Now in my outbuilding. Started cleaning some of the tan paint someone had used on it to reveal it was once a CC display rack.

Great scores everywhere. I love this thread. Quality stuff saved from just rusting away somewhere. Put to good use. For cheap money.

Nice finds guys but the lathe for $150 is the pick of the week so far!
I went back to the same estate sale, bought even more stuff. Still working on sorting out the first days! Got to go finish mowing the lawn and then lunch and then sorting! With the heat I set up a folding table in the living room right by the AC vent!

Just getting back into the swing of things since I got back from sea.
Here is my first weekend, and not great but I am happy. First the 1/3 hp Block Grinder from a pawn shop for $20. Not pretty (yet) but runs beautifully and so quiet. Second was a CL post for a Vise, also $20. More on that in Vise thread.

Sales this weekend seemed to be a bust.

I'm going to post this now because my topic hasn't happened in a page or two;

What's the deal with posting 500 words and fifteen pictures...or just three words and one picture (either way considerable effort was made) and then leaving out the price you paid? I can only guess a man too honest to lie and too ashamed of what was paid.

Is this a cultural thing I'm missing?

Some here will not post prices if they intend to re-sell. And others may as you imply have paid too much (compared to other posters) and not wish to admit it.

I personally don't worry about posting the price even if I intend to re-sell as I will still factor in my work input of shopping, cleaning, repairing or whatever when it comes to sell pricing.
Of course if I think I got a great deal then I am proud of the price.

Today's meager picks. I picked up the two Craftsman hot glue guns and Dremel set for $10, if anyone knows where to find OVAL glue sticks, let me know. I didn't realize until I got in the car that these were not standard round sticks for these guns.

I also stopped back by the estate sale from Friday since it was half off day today, both cabinets were sold so no luck there. I did score this cool old lamp that's destined to be decoupaged, a humming bird feeder for SWMBO, couple 240v receptacles a small Proto pry bar and a chain breaker in the box. Spent $12.50 there today.

Nine, Google the sticks, they are available:

"oval shaped glue gun sticks"

and the Proto "pry bar" is a drum brake adjusting tool, but will also do the pry bar thing as well...

Some serious metal accumulated by everyone this weekend, wow

Must have been the pent up supply caused by the funky way the 4th fell this year.

Yup, my house in Maine is leaning towards the south now because of the prevailing suckage. :lol_hitti

I missed that listing. It must have been just outside of my travel range.

So I popped out to a couple this AM: one had no tools until I asked, (I found the mini duckbills, and they gave them to me...), one MIA, and one was an apartment's "block sale", where I got the silver box for a buck. (velvet lined) that will be held back for a gift to SWMBO.
