anyone that would order something online from ANYONE without PayPal buyer protection is being rather reckless, unless it's your trusted friend - 3% fee is a lousy $6 - what's the big deal about $6?

I'm still in for the unit and consumables, but I would prefer to stick to paypal. Obviously I would pick up the 3% fee..

Ok, I'll look at using PayPal as an option and to figure out a way to avoid being docked for fees and consult with my accountant about the 1099. If you go PayPal, I'll figure out exactly what I'm charged with and simply tack on the fee.

You can get a Canada post postal order for US, but lots of people in the US don't understand how they work so they won't take them.

I'm in for paypal option.

If I am correct on this, when we send money to you from paypal (using credit/debit) we are prompted to either pay the fee ourself or pass it on to you... so if you are just receiving the money from us --rather than "selling us" or "billing us" no fee should ever be put on you.

You should probably check the PayPal User Agreement which everyone agreed to when they signed up.

If this is true he won't have to worry about that rule.

I'm still in either way. I'd rather PayPal but you're the one doing all the work and if you want money orders then you're the boss. Thanks again Aquamoose!

You may to re-read what we are talking about... This is Paypal's fee of 2.9% for receiving payment for goods or services.

If he is just accepting the money only the senders should pay the fee (assuming you use debit/credit).

However, if he want's to set himself up as a seller than yes, he will have to pay a fee, he then can not add a surcharge

This is called sending as a gift. There is no fee when using a PayPal balance or bank account for domestic transactions. Gifts do not have the buyer purchase protection.

Ah makes sense -- did not know that...

So we'd basically have to make 2 transactions? 1 (say 200$) with the fee, then gift the fee back or he inflates inital price and just withdraws the extra from his paypal balance

You don't have to worry about the paypal fee. The cost of the item is just increased to cover it. There are no other purchase price so nothing to compare.

Hell, I'd do cash if that makes it easier. USPS money order or paypay works. In for consumables still. I'm guessing you need to hire a couple of kids for the sorting/packaging of consumables. Add that into the cost.
