I'm rather new to the Garage Journal Forum but I'm on a few car and truck forums. Back in May we bought a wonderful home in Richmond Texas just west of Houston. I insisted of having 3 gars worth of garage and was able to get one with a 2 car / 1 car set up. Needless to say I get the 2 car garage. After doing everything inside that the wife wanted done and bought now it's time for me to start on the garages. I'm putting Race deck down in both with the same pattern layout.

I have the tiles ready to go down once I get the walls painted. I'm going with a Valspar Polished Silver on the main walls and thinking of doing an accent wall of High Speed Steel. it's what I've done in my office.

If I do the accent wall it will be in the offset area where the fridge will be going

I work for an engineering company and do 3D design work so I decided to do an AutoCAD model of what it will look like when finished.

Since most new home builders could care less on how they finish out a garage I had to go in and refloat some places to make them look good.

last night I started cutting in places so that I can start Spraying everything this coming weekend.

.

More pics to come shortly

Well first off welcome to the forum. And that's going to be one very nice garage when you're all finished up!. Also congrats on the new digs, we'll be selling next year and heading out south off Austin.

Thanks.

We love the Austin Hill country area. I was living in San Antonio for the past 6 years. My wife grew up in San Antonio and lots of friends in Austin.

No kidding, hey would you mind if I sent you a pm later. I'd would really appreciate some insight about a couple things and sure don't want to side track your garage thread.

Thanks, Cam.

Burnt: nice looking garage and plan. is Race Deck selling you the BMW logo in your Cad drawing or was that just there for fun.

are you happy with the layout? if you are i won't look for possible changes because everyone works differently.

again welcome to the forum. just an FYI the more pictures you can post of your garage progress or cool pictures of your car, area or fun stuff the more followers you'll get. also participating in the rest of the forum with your garage link in your signature helps too.

good luck and you are right about finishes in garages they are not usually the best. nice work so far.

The quality of finishing I'm seeing in there would be considered a luxury upgrade where I'm from. Best of luck with the project. Looks like you have a comprehensive design plan in place so it should be rewarding to follow. I'm seeing a Texas flag badge in your plan, not BMW. Am I correct?

I've talked to Race desk about the Texas Flag Roundel. they can do it for $600 my BMW has them already on her. It's not something that is in the immediate plans. I have a Custom TRS emblem I had a graphic design company do for my Lifted Tacoma. I might have them do it also. the wife is starting to cringe at the extras at the moment.

I got the Garage painted this weekend. I should have thinned the paint down a little. I had to crank the pressure up on the sprayer to keep it from feathering.

I thought that since the walls had no kind of texture to them I would go over the fresh sprayed paint with a roller and it would look better, it did not turn out as I was envisioning it to in a few places. I'm planning on putting on one more light coat to smooth things out

Back rolling looks great if you've gone heavy enough to do it and do it right away. If too large an area flashes off on you, it goes to hell.

I bought a Troy built 2800 PSI pressure washer last evening along with a B&S Garage floor / Deck head.

I'll be power washing the floor tomorrow. I scrubbed it the other night and got all the paint dust and over spray up. There are spots on the floor where the tires from the vehicles of the previous owners sat. Even though I'm putting down Race Deck I'm going to put down a Marine quality Epoxy first. I need to paint the raised area anyway so I might as well do it all since I have the paint. Hope to post pics in the next day or so.
I have another little project that I'm working on also taking some time up since I got parts in. :)

Burnt: all the work and prep will make for a nice garage and or man cave. good luck and i'll keep watching as you post more pictures.

I also hear Troy built products are good quality and remember not to run your pressure washer without water. i'm a honda guy for any small motors and my cars, but i'm not closed minded to think that others can't make good motors or tools too.

good luck

I have a few friends with the Troy Built unit and they have been great for many years with no issues. I like you love Honda small motors. I really don't think they can be beat. We use a Honda GX-200 motor on my grandsons racing Kart very reliable.

So the plan was to pressure wash the floor on Sunday but it was 99 out side and with the door facing the west that just wasn't going to happen. I decided to start putting paper up on the top of the walls so I can spray the ceiling this week. I started at 8:30 and it was still 95+ in the garage. I worked for about and 1.5 hours and got close to 1/2 of it done.

I'm hoping to finish the rest of it this evening.

So I finally got the painting done. here are a few pics of the etching of the floor with muriatic acid. and after the floor is painted now it is time to start trimming it out.

I'm going to do another coat on the raised portion as it was rather ruff and I want it to fill in more. I'm also going to do the color paint flakes when I do that.

I'm hoping to start putting the Race Deck down in the next day or so.

Just recently moved to Texas as well, so I am looking forward to going through this exact same process.

Like the color choices for the walls as well. All the attention to detail that you put in now will pay off huge later on.

Nice work so far...subscribed. I'm wondering what the consensus is on textured vs smooth finish for garage walls. The attached garage at my house is textured, but I'm not what to go with on my detached project.

You're off to a great start, C6. Walls look nice, and I like your RaceDeck pattern plan. Also I have to say I love those office chairs, very very cool. Did you design/fab the legs or were they purchased?

Great looking project Burnt...I totally understand about the heat slowing down progress! Forecast is showing a break in the heat for us this week though, lets hope so.

Most epoxies require a good 3 days or more to cure. I would recommend that before putting the racedeck down.

Edit: I see COTA in your avatar, which group do you run there with? I went for a weekend last August/September with Edge Addicts...what an amazing track to run on!

Epoxy & Race Deck... now that's gonna be one fine-looking floor! Good work!

I've run with the BMW Club's. We do it once a year in March. I'd do it more often but it is pricy as can be.

so I started bring things back into the garage yesterday. I had a doctors appointment in the mornings so I used the afternoon to my advantage. Here are a few pics of the progress. Now bear in mind that I will be doing some other things to the place in the coming months.

Corner Craftsman shelving and Gladiator wall bench

I'm going to check with Lowes about having the Polished Silver put into spray cans. I want to paint the while Gladiator hanging rails to match the walls

Second shelving unit and small compressor. the shelving will be along the side wall once the race deck gets put down.

Gladiator Work Bench and Tool Box put into place. I think I threw a testical getting the Tool Box in place. :(

I started putting the Race Deck down last night. the wife was breaking the panels apart and handing them to me. I had to laugh at the instruction video on the web site. "a normal garage should take 2 hours." yea if you are in your mid 20's don't have a bad back and it's not 95 deg out side. I will say this though with the heat there should be no expansion in the tiles. I had the boxes sitting out in the sun.

I will finish the Race Deck this evening after I get home from work.

Nice progress! It's going to look so nice with the racedeck.

What are your plans with the additional single car garage you mentioned?

The wife's garage gets the same treatment. I may not put the epoxy down though. The cabinets in hers are Kobalt. two hanging one tall standup unit and a short roll around unit. The Race Deck will be real close to the pattern in mine. I changed mine up just a little so I will have to see how that affects the layout on hers. she will also have the dark accent wall in hers. I was going to do that in mine but got tired of putting paint on the dang walls. LOL

I like that last pic. Will you be putting two cars in the double garage? Mine seems to be a similar size and works great if the two cars are parked properly, ie not by my wife lol....

Following.

Very well done, and sticking to all of your plans so far, that's awesome! I wish my brain's ideas could stay on track like yours.

Props to getting it done in this heat too, I'm in Rosharon, TX and have been avoiding it like the plague.
