Picked a Reed 204 r off of Craigslist for $80. It was covered in sand and has at least 3 paint jobs. All the internals are smooth and packed with grease. The jaws are parallel but ground smooth. Everything was easy to disassemble but I can not get the spindle out to straighten the handle and sandblast.

It has a spilt ring that you need to back out with a drift. It is used to adjust backlash. There is a set screw on side too

There is a set screw underneath and to the left of where it says OIL. Remove that. There is a "split nut" around the spindle. Take some penetrant and spray it. Take a punch and carefully walk it counterclockwise like the regular bolt. When it comes out, it will be in 2 pieces (you didn't break it, thats normal). The spindle will then come out of the jaw. Before you do any of that, unscrew the moving jaw all the way out so you have the vise in 2 pieces.

 Yes I have a Reed 2C and had the same issue as you. Once I soaked it for a while it came right apart. Are you doing a clean/lube or a restoration?

Restored. Then it will take the place of the columbian. And the columbian will be given to my brother in law. It was his grandfather's.
