New guy steel cabinet help

I am looking to get cabinets for my garage this fall but I am having a tough time since I have not been able to see many in stock.

I am thinking about NewAge from Costco but I am not sure about the sturdiness of the various guages.

I also looked at the Husky (on line) from HD but again I am not sure about the sturdiness.

Any one have any input and/or advice for a new guy? Thanks.

This topic has to do with "You get what you pay for".
The lighter gauge cabinets can and will support a standard garage livelyhood, but heavy use, overfilled drawers, and heavy items will create a quick hate relationship with the lighter gauge cabinets.
The lighter gauge cabinets are shorter in depth and will tend to bend at the rear. Both Craftsman and Husky have done this to me.
That being said. If you have the money or the time to wait for a good deal to come by for Lista, Vidmar, Lyon, or Equipto cabinets, then I would choose those over the lighter gauge cabinets. They will last a life time.

I have the gladiator cabinets, because home depot had a special on-line. They are very nice and sturdy. The price was great being they were on special.

I bought several of the Performax cabinets from Menard's ($69 on sale). They are just fine for home use, imho.

You can build them out of wood pretty cheap if you wanted. Some drywall screws and plywood or osb and you'll have some sturdy ones cheap. I was considering getting some metal ones from work, a lot of customers have them. Some have dozens, they are $250 a set so I decided to pass. Imagine a wood cabinet without doors and shelves, that's what a previous owner left in my garage. The frame is sheeting board and the back is plywood. One day I'll get 3/8 osb for doors.

I'm very happy with my newage pros from Costco. I screwed them to the wall. The drawers in the cabinets hold as much weight as I can fit in there. Doors don't flex or warp when you open them. The only thing I'd do different is I'd build a base for them to sit on. The legs are adjustable. But not from inside the cabinet... pain in **** ! Best part about Costco if you don't like them ....return it!

The place I worked at was throwing out their old lateral file cabinets. Heavier than hell. I took them all home and repurposed them...painted them with Rustoleum from Home Depot with a roller...

Ton's of options out there, I've purchased several NewAge products and am extremely happy with my purchase. Like previously mentioned on here the gauge of steel you'll need completely depends on what you plan to put in the cabinets or on the bench as far as work goes.. Give my build thread a read and you'll see the bold series cabinets I bought. Also the other links are a couple of other good NewAge threads.

If you have a Menards around you check out the Performax. I compared them to the Seville from Sam's Club and Gladiator from Sears. The Performax, to me, are very durable cabinets.

Try craigslist for old steel kitchen cabinets, some people are pretty proud of them though, there are deals out there still.
