went to look around sears and found a good deal on a nice, tall tripod stand for work lights.. i think with tax and everything it was $21 out the door. its a package for the stand only - so no paying for lights you wont use.. its 56" tall.. with the light mounted its right about face height to me and im 5'10". its even the same exact red as the S/O light.. all you need to do is unscrew the "craftsman" quick connect on the top of the tripod, and drill 2 holes for the screws that come with the S/O stand.. thats it..

Nice work light! Is that a regularly stocked item? Could not bring it up on the website.

the stand was on the shelf next to like 3 different choices of lights you "could" mount on it.. the light itself is from costco.. total cost for what you see $49

I have that same "stupid" light  picked it up on clearance a couple years back for around $15. I think it may have been open box. It's not really all that bad, works well enough for random outside jobs, but gets really hot and draws a ton of power, and will pop the breaker if I have it on high and have the air compressor running at the same time. I'm thinking the led retrofit might be worth trying out.

I have a 500 watt quartz light mounted on a mag wheel for a base. I installed a duplex receptacle at about 4 foot and I used it to build my house. Hard on electric, gives off a lot of heat so not great in the summer but will warm up your hands and heat up a small space. It is a pain to move because it is heavy but it doesn't tip over easy.

I'm guessing that this is a new item at Sears and hasn't been added to the website yet. I've never seen it in stores, but it does look a lot like the one that came with my dual halogen lights I bought there roughly 7 years ago.

i think it was the first time i saw it in there too.. on the shelves below it were 2 different options of work lights that you could mount onto the stand.. theres (was) a quick connect on the top of the stand just for the craftsman lights.. i just took it apart - got rid of the spring mounted hooks and drilled 2 holes.. check in the store if you can, maybe its new..

I ended up wandering into the local sears store last night and found 2 of these stands for 19.99 minus a 20% off coupon, making them 16$ a piece. I will post up my results after I mess with them and mount the snap on lights I have.

I found one of these at my local Sears store, Fairview Heights Illinois for 19.99. It was the only one they had in stock. Using the 20% off coupon code I was able to get it for $16 as well. Technically my wife bought it so I will not be able to play with it until Christmas. It is a "stocking stuffer" : ( NBD I have not found anybody with a Costco account yet so I can buy the snap on LED lights for it. Thanks guys for the info.

What is the 20% code everyone is talking about?

I think this code was first posted in the Sears local ad thread. 9817279705851049

I've used it plenty already, it "usually" works. When it get applied it says under coupons used that it's 20% off for all craftsman club members for 1 year. It doesn't say anything about students only.

Great idea kctyphoon to maximize the usefulness of that Snap On light. I took your idea a step further and enlarged the holes on the Snap On light base so now the light can quickly snap on and off. I just retapped new shorter screws to attach the light back onto the base. Again great idea....thanks

Creative, how did the feed table turn out?

I used two rollers for a short stand and built a table for the in feed side. I think all rollers have too much movement. I don't cut much large material.

Picked up 2 of those 56in tripods last night. Had to search everywhere in the tool section because both were in the wrong location

Getting the only one that was in our store (in-store only item it looks like. It shows on our computers and what not, but not online anywhere) as a Christmas gift from Sears (first time in 5+ years I've worked here they've done that).

Looking forward to it :) Now I just need another Snap On light to get a nice dual setup going...

I was in HD today - and for $35 they have a dual head 1000 watt halogen light stand.. It's not as tall, is not red (it's orange) but - you can fit 2 of the snap on heads on it, and it has a detachable floor stand too if anyone wants a dual head tripod.. It seems like a decent alternative..

I picked up the craftsman tripod at sears yesterday, one left in stock. I made the modifications to the light base like mrvm said so I can snap it on and off. Real happy with it, now I can direct the light more (especially to higher spots I'm working on). Thanks for posting.

A month or so ago a Sears by my had the tripod on clearance for around $16 picked it up and finally got around to putting the snap on light on it. I did it like mrvm did. Made the holes big enough for the tripod hooks to go through (23/64's if I remember right, just under 3/8) and put some #10 screws through the holes to bolt up the light. So now it's removable whenever I want the light without the tripod.

The ones that enlarged the holes to still be able to snap on and off.... Does the light wobble and is it loose when mounted or are the holes just big enough to where the light is mounted firm?

If wobbling is a concern, drill a smaller diameter hole but enlongate the hole to be more oval shaped. My main focus was quick on-off the tripod and stable enough not to fall off.
