Why the yellow marks on the sockets? Personal ID or standard vs metric?

it helps to see how much the socket is moving, while being torqued down via an impact wrench. I have the Milwaukee High Torque Impact (1200ft/700ft), and that thing can easily snap bolts in half, let alone strip the threads. its easy to see when the fastener has reached its "end", and how much more you are turning it.

That's probably what I'll end up doing with my drawer faces now, since its cheaper than buying the rustoleum bed liner

Can someone take a closer picture of how you did the snap on hinges? Mine are on there, and work but they are not great the way they are.

Thanks to Bobcat753 I have a nice custom handle for the top on my 5 drawer cart!

I added the Snap On logo a little while ago.

Yes It Is! Made In USA Too!

Hmm... Craftsman USA is hard to find, Snap-On is a little pricy, now what's a good US made wrench as a substitute.

The yellow part is a lower unit stand for when I'm servicing smaller outboard lower units. It's removable and I have other ones that I use for larger lower units. I also made one to that allows me to set small outboards on it. I thought about making a attachment for it that'll make a tall work surface that I can reach when in boats 6-8' up in the air. Sometimes its hard to lean over the side and reach stuff on the top of my cart

Did you just slide the chrome off to the sides? I hate the chrome plastic label slider thing that's on the HF 44" as well. Something like what you've done looks way better.

Any one have a pic of the 7 drawer side box for the black HF cart?
Thanks,
jim

I dont think anyone has put the 7 drawer side on the black cart.
Its been done many times to the red cart.
Btw most of the people that put a side box on either put casters
on the side box or build a frame under the whole thing.

Just have a little HF cart. I painted it with some rustoleom Truck bed liner. Came out decent. If I could do it over again, i'd use something else, maybe a different brand truck bed liner. This stuff was expensive, ~$7 a can and I used 7.5 cans
And I didn't even do the drawers yet [emoji38]_hitti

Has anyone used a side box as a "roll cart"

I actually gave this some serious consideration a year or so ago as I needed a tool cart that I could move over rough ground. My thoughts at that time were to attach a HF side box to a HF two-wheeled hand cart.

HF 2-Wheel Hand Cart.jpg HF Side Tool Chest.jpg

Eventually, I decided that there wasn't enough "width" in the side box to accommodate everything I wanted to carry. So, I used an existing 24" wide toolbox that I had saved from the dead and integrated it into a hand cart, along with other features, to make a Frankencart!

After a few design tweeks, it has met my needs quite nicely.....but it is a weird looking thing! Here's a link to the original thread, if you're interested:

There's always putting big wheels on any "normal" cart. I got the idea from this thread although mine is not a HF cart. This pic from post 1799:

And my Princess auto 3 shelf no drawer cart with 4 casters. These add so much weight down low it adds stability. Here's my writeup.

For me and my particular farm application, the advantages of a two-wheel cart are:

1) The cart can be easily moved up and down steps by one guy.
2) The toolbox can be lifted off the cart and slid into the back of my pickup truck ..... and then, if desired, the cart can also be slid into the truck. Again, all by one guy.

Yep. Even on an HF. And I am the dude that started the Snap-On hinge to HF swap out. And I still have both. :)

Only problem with the side box is weight balance and having to make it fit a cart.

The fit issue is easy.

The overload issue and safety is the challenge.

For a cart, you just need to go thru the inside wall of the box and thru bolt it to the cart crossmember or upright posts. Then just loadthe cart for balance.

If on a flat concrete florr it will be just fine.

yup! just grab the chrome piece and slide it off to any side. it turned out really nice. just make sure to clean the part you want to wrap with brake cleaners. some orange oil will come off. you'll see.

Maybe I'll fall back to that if I never get the motivation to recolor my whole HF 44". I got a cool vintage Caterpillar badge off a machine and was going to use it as a Tool Box emblem. Paint the box Cat yellow and black and mount that badge on it. I want to do something cool with it.

JohnInOh, I really like your Frankencart. It looks like it would be really useful, especially over rough ground. I really like my roll cart, but it isn't much use in gravel and it is a nightmare to take stairs. Coincidentally, I live in a duplex and have to encounter stairs and gravel every time I need my tools. Thanks for sharing.

I was talking solely about turning a hf side box into a cart itself. Nothing about attaching it to a roll cart or anything

Ooops. You said "as". I read it as "on". jjjrmx5 derp moment.
My bad.

Unless on or in a toolbench or just set on the floor, I;d say it is too top heavy.

As shown above, mounting it to a hand truck is the only way I could see it working. Just too high of a center of gravity to be safe using only casters and heavily loaded.

So it looks like the hinges are still on back order. Has this happened before? Any idea on how long a back order takes?

Was on backorder when I ordered them. From memory... it was a couple of weeks. But your mileage may vary. :dunno:

I need a second cart or the side box... what I really need is an open cart with the sidebox. This would need a bottom frame and casters under the sidebox.
