Or does anyone have any stubby impact period? Any brand or any size. How do they compare to full size impacts? That Matco one mentioned above says 600 ft lbs, which is more than most of the other full size impacts on their website. That's pretty awesome if those numbers are legit. Why bother buying a full size.

I have the astro pneumatic 3/8 nano wrench and I love it! its job is suspension and brake work and it hasn't found a bolt yet it wont break (within reason) it zips caliper bolts off like nothing. also it was like 100 bucks.. I vote astro pneumatic

I do have a ir 2135 for wheels and big stuff. I feel like its necessary to have both. if its your first impact then get a full size 1/2.

Aircat makes a 1/2" drive compact impact 1055-TH which boasts 500 ft lbs. One can be bought for as little as $112 shipped. I have always heard good things about Aircat and I own the 1600-TH which is an absolute animal. Anyone have experience with the 1055-TH?

Couple guys talking about this on another thread. http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=322967

Anyone heard of this Mighty 7 brand? They make compact impact wrench and compact impact sockets. This impact says 500 ft lbs also. It has Five 5 star reviews. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00LUEXLWY/?tag=atomicindus08-20

Then look at this thing. Its only 3-13/16" long at 450 ft lbs. That's pretty amazing if its legit.

I'm thinking the "less than 3 7/8" means this is the same length:

I have the aircat 1055-th gun, and I no longer use my other gun as this thing kicks ***. I already have a spare but still hope it holds up for years.

Aircat 1055 th has 9 total ratings, one 4 star and the rest 5 star.

These numbers were taken off the brand's websites and prices may vary depending where you look. I just did this as a quick comparison. I'm still rooting for the Aircat, but the Mighty Sevens look good too. Need more feedback on them.

Yea I saw that, but it has too many 3 star or less reviews for my liking. The aircat has all 4 and 5 star reviews. The m7 has nothing. Gun to head right now, I'd go with the aircat...

Regardless of the overall rating being good, you seriously take amazon reviews into consideration for tools?

I mean on some items I do on amazon, but tools? 50% of the reviews sound like its the first time they're ever held a tool.

Amazon's ratings on anything have to be taken with a lot of salt. That said, it is a good information source, but I prefer message boards for most information in general. (thus the post)

When you read reviews on Amazon that match reviews on here, yes I do take them into consideration. If two out of four reviews say "wouldn't take lug nuts off my car" then I'm probably going to cross that tool off my want list, whether its their first time using it or not. Especially something like the Astro impact. It's a $100 item. Generally that isn't a tool a professional would buy. So, if a 450 ft lb impact isn't working for someone using it just to change tires torqued to 90 ft lbs, its not the one for me. I do as much research as possible before buying anything. Reason I made the list above...

Coming from someone who owns one, your amazon research is not doing you any favors. This thing will buzz the the hell out of some lug lugs, although not sure that's its purpose. Watch Eric O's South Main Auto videos on youtube, he uses the Nano on a daily basis in a professional setting, loves it.

Well Astro came in last place in this test video from Real Tool Review. I'm not saying it doesn't work for some people, but based on what I've seen and read, its not the one for me.

That's because the 3/8 astro impact is where it shines. I mean come on, 1/2 compact impact? If you're going for compact why slap a huge 1/2 drive socket on there?

Well, they do sell 1/2" compact impact sockets. Plus, 3/8" impacts don't put out enough oomph sometimes. So, for someone like me who only owns an older 3/8" Craftsman impact, which kinda *****, I can buy this 1/2" compact that will do the same thing a regular 3/8" will and more. I don't own many 3/8" impact sockets either. To me a 1/2" compact makes more sense. I also like the idea of using it regularly over my mg725 or my cordless dewalt dcf899.

I picked up the Matco 1/2 Stubby today off the truck, told him if he didn't through in some lube for it, and 19mm and 22mm deep sockets then I couldn't take it. He actually went for it, so I went ahead and picked it up. Took off a few wheels with it, will give a review when I've had some more time using it. Seems of very good quality and should have plenty of power for what I'll be using it for (Lube/Express Tech)

For reference, the NAPA equivalents are:

NPT 61084 $179.99 550 ft-lbs
3/8" stubby similar to MATCO MT2738 $308.95

NPT 61083 $199.99 600 ft-lbs
1/2" stubby similar to MATCO MT2760 $309.95

The CP 7731/7732 are similar and even less.
