I'm starting to redesign my garage and i have some things i'd like to place on the walls but not sure how to go about it.

I have a plain car hood from my 350z that i'd like to hang on the wall. I was thinking of getting some nascar style hood graphics put on it before i hang it up but not sure what to do. Its just kind of plain right now. Anyone have any ideas? Also, how do i secure it to the wall? Its not the lightest thing.

My garage tends to get a few bugs (spiders, etc) in it from time to time. I want to build a shelf to keep my bike helmets on. I don't want to throw my helmet on one day to find a spider. What do you guys do to keep the bugs out of your garage?

Shelves.. Does anyone have shelves in thier garage for decoration purposes only? I was thinking of putting some up to show off my bike trophies, model cars, & etc. I'm just not sure what style of shelves to put up and what wall to throw them on.

Pictures...Did you guys frame yours or just thumb tack them to the wall? I'm thinking framing but not sure cause a few of mine or just magaine pull outs.

The sport stripe most people put on thier walls... Do you guys paint it on the flat wall or do you usually add a molding & paint the molding?

Any help is appreciated! Thank you very much!

Too many questions - no one knows where to start!

I'll try one: people usually paint the stripe on the wall....but a moulding will work too.

I store the things that I want to keep the critters out of in zip lock bags. I have plain white shelving from Depot for the model cars and such. I washes up good and there's lots of bodywork dust in here. I have all the artwork framed so that it is covered in glass, again so it is cleanable, I like the look of a decorated garage but I work in here too so the fancy stuff needs to withstand the rag and the shop vac.

For mounting the hood:

Was watching "Garage Mahal" on DIY channel (no flames please!) and they did just what you suggest. They used a 2x6 cut down the middle length wise to form a "french cleat", with one half mounted to the hood and the other half mounted to the wall. Should be strong enough for your Z hood since they were hanging a much heavier hood.

I let the bugs stay and I keep my helmet in a bag. :pimpflash

I think i mentioned this before in other posts but.... if you get mice/rats what ever, in the garage a snake shedding is great to keep them away. you can get them from pet shops for free. put them around and the critters will go running, as far as my welding helmet and gloves in plastic bags. good luck.

use stickers and vinyl graphics then hand the hood with cables just like a picture only use bigger hardware

Bounce dryer sheets I use them in my boots, shoes and helmets stored in my basement never an issue in a decade

hit HD and Lowes check out the interior shelving choices some amazing things can be done with glass shelf and lights.

thanks for the replies guys! i really appreciate it.

As far as the hood, i'm not sure what graffic to go with. I think a large #1 would look kind of dumb. Should i just mimic an exact Nascar hood? I'm not even a Nascar fan.

I went to Home Depot and spotted some pre made shelves that i like. I'm affriad the garage will look to formal with framed pics and nice shelving but that might be the look i'm going for.

I'll try the dryer sheets in the helmets. It seems like it might work. I don't get rats/mice. I only get beetles and spiders.

I'm really just trying to get my garage to look like a nice room in the house thats meant for my cars/bikes.

Thanks again for the replies! i really do appreciate as i'm new to the garage decoration scene.

Hmm... If you're not a Nascar fan, why are you looking at nascar graphics for your hood? Find someone who's artsy and have them do something cool on the hood! The hood on my '63 hardtop is ok but not really worth selling (it'll be getting a glass panel) so I'm going to repaint it and have my friend paint a caricature of one of my cars on it.

I bought some heavy duty wire shelving at Lowes (next to the Gladiator cabinets) that is black hammertone finish. It has two brackets that laf into the wall. I think each shelf its rated for 100lbs or something like that. It comes with a thin plastic sheet for the top of it, but a piece of cut glass takes care of that. I think the shelf looks pretty sharp in the garage. If I can remember, I'll snap a pic when I get home from work

for the hood you can drill some hood pin holes and make a bracket that bolts to the wall and the hood is supported by the hood pins.
you can also hinge it at the side and make a storage cabinet out of it (kind of like a medicin cabinet)
choose you favorite color for the hood and put the classic twin white (or pick another color) stripes like uaes on the shelbys and mane other vintage race cars.
for the number either put you birth year (in 2 numbers), the year of the car, or perhaps the year of your kid (if you have one)

if you are going to display trophies or model cars I might recomend that you put them behind glass to reduce how dusty they will get

I'm in the process of finishing my shp. Appr. 32x32. I hate bugs. So everything gets caulked. All the base trim gets caulked to the block and then the top is caulked too. The window trim and door trim also. I've also built a cabinet around my bolt bin storage rack and that got caulked where the cabinet meets the wall. When I build my bench the bottom will be trimmed from the bttom shelf down and will be caulked where it meets the floor and walls. Basicly I'm trying to seal up places where drafts can come through, where bugs can hide, and where dirt can build up but can't easily be cleaned. It also looks nice too. Everythings very neat. I'm doing my damndest to not give bugs places to hide and to not give dirt and loose nuts and bolts places to fly where they can't easily be reached.

Of course. Just dont want to give the bastards a place to hide. Especially lady bugs. They like the cracks and crevises. But the caulking I did on the trim work looks kick *** anyway. Plus now it's sealed tight enough that I can hose out my shop once a year. Not to mention it will help with keeping the drafts from coming out from between the block and walls. There were more reasons than bugs that i did this. Plus....I'm a caulker/tuckpointer by trade.
