3bay: so do we think this wrench is made by Williams? or is it a Craftsman V wrench that has had some artist work doing the renaming? speaking of Craftsman V series tools did Williams make them? i think Williams made Snap on wrenches didn't they?

Twertsy: do you know all the Craftsman wrench makers thru the years or is it on your website? can you email me my name and password again because with all the laptop crashes i've had the last 12 months i can't find it and i'd like to see what all you and the guys have compiled so far?

This is 100% JH Williams made right here. I found it at a sale today, one of only two Williams at the sale. Obviously one of their "seconds" but I've never seen a misspelled quite like this before. Way too cool to leave behind.

I'll have to show my neighbor who used to work there.

I can't find where you ever created an account. Checked your real name and "drivesitfar" and nothing............

There is a Craftsman maker timeline on my site. We don't know "all" of them yet and frankly, I think there are going to be some serious surprises coming in the future like: more than one manufacturer per code; incorrectly attributed codes (BT, C-series, and others); etc.

Sent you an email with your info.

You might think that they had the same problem at the Lectrolite factory. I once made the joke that they needed to buy a vowel.

TWERTSY: when you started your website I was and still am in the middle of organizing and about 50 projects at my house so sorry i haven't been on your web site yet. thanks for the code, but you forgot to give me the web site address.

i'm sure others visiting this little thread would also like to visit your web site for old tools so post it here or send via email if that works best for you.

thanks for starting that web site

ALL: are tools worth more with these sort of mis spellings or odd shapes made at the factories? or just fun to collect or talk about?

Nice one. I have never noticed any spelled wrong.

I have a RP Williams wrench that was stamped way off center. I would assume it was brought home by an employee.

Cool. I tried to create a gathering spot open to any and all error tools:

Drives value is in the eye of the beholder. I like this stuff but would I pay much for most of it, no. I just like to share what I find. Check out this link above, you'll be surprised.

Check out the Factory Flaw and Unfinished Hand Tools thread ^ . Post your finds everybody. I have a bunch more I'll be posting there soon.

That was made specially for Jackie Gleason's sidekick, Norton the Sewer Technician (Art Carney).

Little Known Fact:
Art Carney was the originator of Norton Utilities.

This is a hard question to answer. To the ******** collector, yes. To the layman, no. If that were in the possession of a tool seller, they'd have a hard time finding the right buyer to spend real $$ on it.

Now, I was under the impression that the stampings were done by machine - and that the letters were on a single die...
Does this mean someone sat at a workstation every day stamping them by hand letter by letter?
Maybe there was a whole crew on an assembly line, and each person stamped a letter as it went by?
These were probably something that wasn't originally stamped, and the mis-spelled words were added like that for a joke...
