Cars and Coffee at the Place was great today! The car show part is spreading more and more outside the facility as the individual units get finished.

I only wish I was done. I did go in and sweep up our unit last night so that it didn't look a complete mess. Several of the other units were in work and you can see the future of the facility starting to take shape.

I'll start with my next door neighbor. They were not there but their unit was opened. They went very minimalist and have finished what they wanted to do for now. They did a smaller mezzanine and just painted the steel underneath.

36984058391_fecaece030_c.jpg

This is one of the 60' deep units on the airport side. The mezzanine is large and has the stairs inset into the mezzanine. The railings look open and that makes me think that they will be glass. It looks like they also mounted the HVAC up into the ceiling for a clean look.

36983985871_fbfba2f0c8_c.jpg

This is one of the big trapazoid units almost in the corner and the owners purchased it and the 60' deep unit next to it. It is Huge! The mezzanine looks like a mini-building with the underside completely closed off. I think there is going to be a bathroom underneath the mezzanine but it was hard to tell from the distance I was taking pictures.

36289652144_e3ae41b0a5_c.jpg

This is a unit right by the clubhouse. It is FILLED with a large RV.

36937009846_22658b5bfe_c.jpg

Next door is another unit with an RV. The owners were there and it was nice to finally meet more of our neighbors. They needed the space for a good size trailer camper but the husband is also a big wood working hobbyist. They had their floors done already and quite a bit of wood working equipment set up. The depth is enough that they can hook up their truck to the trailer ahead of a trip and keep it stored that way. They also put in a RV dump drain in the floor for their trailer when they get back from the trip.

36936972136_cf38f3bf5e_c.jpg

And then there is the unit across from the clubhouse that is my back wall neighbor. He is far ahead of the rest of us.

36983790471_8c04519976_c.jpg

I didn't take this picture today - the unit was not open. But I thought I would paste it in here since I'm putting so many of the other unit pictures in here today. This is another one of the large trapazoid units (but without an extra unit tacked on).

All in all, the facility is starting to take shape. I was hoping we all (especially me!) would be further for today's event but such is life. October 14th is the next C&C and I am crossing my fingers I will be mostly done by then!!

There sure is a wide array of vehicle types that show up at your C&C events. Thanks for sharing your photos! I also like the various ways your neighbors have been using their spaces. It looks like your back wall neighbor is almost in need of a larger place!
I do like the way he did his though, I could easily imagine myself doing something much the same as his layout.

Cool to see the different layouts. I would have done the trapezoid one completely different, mezzanine down the window wall to use the views. I am sure that seeing inside of others just made you that much more anxious and excited to get yours done. Fingers crossed for the next C&C.

I was up in your area over the weekend. Had a full plate yesterday and did not think you would be around today. I ran I-64 from I-70 to I-270 so dropping by would have been a snap. Trip came up unexpectedly. Would like to see your place if the opportunity presents itself again.

@C_F - That's what I love about C&C versus a traditional car show. You get so much variety. Parked next to each other will be a custom tri-5 chevy, a riced out civic, and a Lamborghini Aventador.

@jay8s - I kinda get what they did. The building in a building is off to the side away from the two entrance garage doors. They get the full depth and full height for an area that is 60' x 46'.

@Bib_Overalls - October 14th is the next date that the whole facility will be opened up for a C&C. Otherwise, once I'm actually done I'm sure I can arrange a meet.

Today's Update - more mudding....

Just in case it is hard to tell the progress...

After the first layer of tape and mud:

And now - after two layers?

They swept everything out and pulled stuff to be installed later away from the walls. Even my favorite dirt pile got removed - and the wall banister was re-installed. Paint is supposed to start tomorrow but I don't know if that is the ceiling, the mezzanine steel, or the walls.... I'm guessing ceiling first but I'm not sure what the order will really be.

And as a reminder on the paint colors.

37043752152_2f17b31bcf_c.jpg

Most of the walls will be the light grey color "First Star". The lower level will have the first several feet in "Iron Core" and the separating stripe in "Raze Red". The ceiling will be painted "Grizzle Gray". The stairs metal gets the "Iron Core". I think the steel under the mezzanine gets the "First Star" color but I wouldn't mind if it was "Grizzle Gray". I can't wait to see it with some color...

Progress looks great. Wanted to attend C&C last weekend but had a crisis at home. Hope to make the Oct event and see your place in person.

My brother and I were just talking about a similar setup at the m1 concourse in Pontiac, but it's attached to a race track. Your garage Looks like a great place to hang out.

The upstairs area is getting a textured laminate that looks like wood. It's a grey/white pattern. I think there is a picture back around post 500. I'd like to do a full broadcast epoxy on the main garage floor. It is rough in places due to the repairs and the forms that were nailed into the floors to pour the walls. I think a full broadcast will hide the flaws. I want some thing darker.

The Cars&Coffee season is winding down and there was a good one at Westport today. It was the original one in the STL region and still the consistently largest turnout.

Name those engines...

Sooo.. paint. It's a good thing there are at least a dozen lights still getting installed because it looks like a black hole in there right now.

36412817064_0b3cb4c577_c.jpg

Only the fireplace wall and the small stub wall were supposed to get the dark color up on the mezzanine but almost the whole back wall got painted that color. It'll get fixed but it is dark up there right now.

36412827944_274d76bfde_c.jpg

37250692905_2e4f4ba463_c.jpg

I'm tempted to leave it because the cabinets will cover most of it but even with a dozen lights up there it might be too much. Everything on the ceiling got painted including the whole furnace and all the track lights. This next shot shows where they left off for the day.

37060341346_306291e294_c.jpg

The underside of the mezzanine is brighter and there are four LED strip lights going in under the mezzanine.

I wonder if the under stairs will be the light grey (First Star) or the dark grey that the railing are going to be painted. We talked about all the colors early on but its the transitions that I'm not sure how they will work. I guess I find out soon enough.

I'll start with the engines LOL

First engine is a 997 Carrera S 3.8L

X....

Second engine...Shelby Cobra kit car, with a correct appearing Ford FE engine of unknown displacement. Hopefully at least 427. :)

BTW, I love the Pantera! There used to be a local guy who showed his often at car shows. He had a plaque that read "All parts found to have fallen off this car are of the finest Italian craftsmanship".

Wow, that is dark. Are the cabinets light or dark in color? I think early on they where dark correct? Lighting below the mez will be nice.

So a lift got delivered today and they finished the ceiling away from the mezzanine. It also looks like they were touching up next to the painted ceiling so they could re-spray the walls. It looked like a lighter color than the "First Star" but that could all be about contrast. You can see on the back wall where it is starting to get painted back to the lighter color from the really dark "Iron Ore" color.

One of the lights looks like it got moved for some reason - maybe got hit while trying to maneuver around it while spraying. I'm sure no permanent harm was done but I didn't turn it on. There was lots of grit (dry powdered paint) on the floors. It is definitely a messy process.

No "Rave Red" yet but I think they are done with all of the "First Star" and the "Grizzle Gray" ceiling. The re-paint looks better and the overall room does not look too dark too me now. There will be darker colors going in lower but there will also be lots of lights going in as well.

The mezzanine floor was installed today. I think it turned out well. Hopefully this means that the cabinets are getting installed soon.

What was weird is that they installed the vinyl baseboard on the main level too where the floor is not done and the concrete is not even poured where the plumbing was connected.....

Things are picking up pace. There are quite a few new things to show today.

The ceiling fan is in. It's located in the wrong spot but it looks good. It should be centered between the four lights. I didn't turn it on - not the least because I would be afraid of the dust cloud it might kick up right now.

37310411622_dbaa1345d7_c.jpg

They cut the top off the stub wall to get ready to put a cherry half round down the length. So much for my clean floors upstairs....

The spot lights are getting installed in the track lights.

36670808253_9a9bae4ddf_c.jpg

The cabinets and pendant lights are getting installed by the bar.

The electric fireplace got delivered and is sitting in a box.

36670827023_bec195777d_c.jpg

The cabinets and the rest of the lighting are supposed to finish up tomorrow. They want to get the cabinets done to take measurements for the quartz counter top. There is still lots to do but it is really starting to take shape.

Wonder if they'll have to redo the main floor's vinyl baseboard, or just mask over it when you proxy the floors.

I talked to the main contractor today and he was a little surprised as well and I think it is coming back off. It was nice to see that he was frustrated a little too. It made me feel better that we were on the same page.

The lights are on upstairs and downstairs on the mezzanine. The cabinets are installed but no fridge or dishwasher in yet. I think they wanted to get to this point to be able to measure for the countertop.

One of the under mezzanine lights is missing a diffuser and it makes the lighting look a little odd. The lights are tucked up between the floor beams which leaves some odd patterns as well but that was by design so I would have max clearance for a lift. I really like the little spots. The pendants are up high but I can walk under the ones where the couch will eventually be placed and I think they are at a good height.

VERY NICE! I love it! I am glad that you have stuck this all out. It has been a long trip to get to this point, and it looks to be well worth the wait.

Love that fan. When I was putting AC in my shop the HVAC guy said he could sell me $1,000 worth of impressive exposed duct work but a properly located ceiling fan would do the job better.

I've spent the last week reading this thread. I'd looooooove to have a project like this over here.

As far as your project is concerned, I would've lost it at the amount of red tape and **** you had to go through, only to end up still having to compromise. Someone screwed up early on.

And man, you are patient. This is taking forever. Hopefully, in the end, you can finally enjoy it to the fullest!
