Thomas' and your place is looking awesome. Do y'all have a bet which space will be finished first. Looking forward to the end result.

No bet. Thomas.

I say Greg_STL. My mind always flip flops, I'm just winging it, trying to look for odds and end pieces of materials or changing stuff. (i.e. already thinking about getting rid of that stupid A-frame engine crane; tempted to get the builder to engineer/certify install one of those motor crane from the roof truss; so I can lift 200-300 lbs stuff from floor to mezzanine; but don't wanna pull the trigger yet)

And since I'm making tons of dust and gritty in the warehouse, I don't want to hire the floor proxy company yet. But by then we're hitting Canadian snow/winter, always in my mind that summer weather is always better to do paint or letting chemicals to naturally dry. So I won't get proxy flooring till at least spring, 2018

I really vote Greg. That "big *** fan" is the perfect art piece for places like these.

This just came out on the Cars and Coffee St. Louis Facebook site. I’m not sure if it is really some kind of sanctioned event or what ?.?.?

At the very least the it should be fun watching the show on a blow up big screen outside.

It has been a very strange day as I just got done hashing out some issues with the contractor. They are going to try to get everything else done but the floor by the 14th. I’ll have no epoxy floor, no furniture, no TVs on the wall but, I might at least have an operable fridge .... could be worse!

***EDIT*** Apparently its a real Amazon event and we are the first stop with multiple stops across the US ending at the Petersen Auto Museum in California. WOW!

***Edit 2*** ZIP code is 63005

***Edit 3*** corrected advert with corrected zip code

Sounds like me with the flip flopping and trying to reuse materials.
I have a mezzanine and put this crane together from a piece of nautilus exercise equipment, and old rim, HF hoist and pulley. It has been a lift saver.
19b8d635e1d0be05bdaad6d3d667c0be.jpg I'd really like a trolley from the roof and have considered unistrut with their trolley.

They poured concrete yesterday and I got one picture taken before the camera shut down. I love digital cameras but I seriously need to think about getting a second battery. I went back today and got some more pictures because ... pictures!

Here is the repair area with newly poured concrete.

37388027442_3df29906ee_c.jpg

When they cleaned and swept up the main floor they brought up the fridge, dishwasher and fireplace to get them ready to install.

The balcony rail wall will be capped with cherry. We decided to put a half round on top to discourage people from putting glasses on top of the railing. It is not so much that I care that glasses would be put on the railing - it is that they would get knocked off onto the cars 15' below.

The stairs are going to get a vinyl tread. I selected the black on on the right of this spread.

37354131306_6746f931e1_c.jpg

The utility tub for the main floor and the sink for the bar are in boxes on the main floor. The counter tops have been ordered and are to be installed on the 10th. The main contractor believes they will have everything done by the 14th. So, fingers crossed, everything will be done by the 14th except the floor. I'm not sure how long I need to wait after the concrete repair was poured but I'm pretty sure a couple days is not a good idea. I have to admit - In the last 12-24 hours since I found out the C&C was going to be this big Amazon event, I've thought about doing a tile system. I'm going to stick to my guns though - this is a one time event and getting the right floor in is a long term payoff.

The cap for the mezzanine was installed today. It is installed but they still have some clean up to do. I like how it looks.

The fireplace was installed too. The glass is off because they were sanding around the unit in preparation for a final coat of paint on the fireplace wall. The glass was sitting over on the bar cabinets.

It doesn't look like much when it is off but it looks nicer on - especially if you turn the lights down some.

It's looking good in there.

Good idea on the half round railing. Having a glass knocked off onto a car below would really be a bummer. Probably wouldn't "buff right out", either.:lol_hitti

@RStewart - Wow - Ask and you shall receive... Honestly - why'd you wait so long to ask?? ;-)

Painting of the walls, stripe, stairs all happened today. The pre-mature vinyl baseboards got pulled off to make sure that paint was low enough. The stairs will get a vinyl stair tread and bull nose but otherwise are done.

That may be too many pictures of a stripe but I know I've been waiting a while so humor me....

/ Yikes stripes. Excellent. How wide is it (looks like a whole stair riser) and did they tape/mask it with no bleeding? Only asking because I'm ready to lay a stripe in my bay. Thanks in advance.
Really looks good.

@RStewart - Per the bid drawings it is supposed to be 6”. I didn’t measure but that looked about right. I wasn’t there so I’m not positive if it was sprayed or what. There is no bleed. There is some red that is about the width of a masking tape below the stripe so I'm sure it was masked. There is also a big run under the stairs in the field of the stripe so I'm guessing it was sprayed. I’m sure both will be fixed. Overall, I’m impressed with how crisp and bleed free the stripe came out.

9 Days until October 14th C&C...

They are deep into fixing things at this point. They power washed the outside of the garage door that had ceiling paint drips. The grout under the mezzanine posts finally got placed. They are working drywall again to fill in gaps under the fireplace and the cherry railing cap. The vent stack was moved so that the pipe goes over the track lighting in the bar.

The dishwasher, sink faucet, and fridge all got un-boxed to get ready to install. The fridge has a dent on the back corner but as long as it works that corner is buried under the counter and will never be seen.

The drywall repairs on the inside of the mezzanine and on the fireplace were completed, paint touched up, and the fireplace glass was installed.

23688786488_6150aa624f_c.jpg

So, next week:

Monday: Plumbing - Dishwasher, Hot Water Heater, Utility Sink; Electrical - Hot Water Heater; Fridge
Tuesday: Stair Treads
Wednesday: Countertops, Electrical Outlets In Bar Countertop
Thursday: Countertop Sink, Misc Plumbing
Friday: Clean-up, Paint Touchup & Inspection

There is some misc drywall and flooring issues to fix as well but I think by the nature of those jobs they are happening over a couple days.

It's going to be busy!

What a great inspiration and great looking place.
I'm currently in an old gas station, but that one is going to be teared down soon to give place for apartment buildings. So I'm considering a move to a garage condo like this, since that's the only reasonably priced option over here nowadays.

Thanks for sharing such great pictures and information.

Regards,

Anders

Greg, will you be at your garage until the end of Cars and Coffee Saturday? I’m definitely coming, but I might not be there until later.

The morning cars and coffee was canceled in favor of the 6-9pm amazon grand tour event. I figure we will be there till 9pm if only because it may be hard to leave....

3 work days left ....

The utility sink went in today with the plumbing end of the electric hot water heater. It is small but it only needs to feed two sinks. The stair treads were done and the fridge was slid into its slot and plugged in. Tomorrow is supposed to be counter tops.

2 Work Days...

The electric is now hooked up to hot water heater. I did not verify it works because there was stuff in both sinks and I didn't want to move anything.

23792467598_aab075b44e_c.jpg

The counter tops are in and the sink is installed but the plumbing is still in work. The dish washer is installed into the hole but again the plumbing still needs to get finalized under the sink.

I'm starting to believe that it might finish by Friday. There is lots of paint and general cleanup that still needs to occur but I can see the finish line. I've got lots I'd like to do after they are done but I'm doubtful I'll get it all done on Saturday before the show. I've got drawer pulls at the house. I told the builder I would do them as I was looking for something that would be garage themed. I couldn't find exactly what I wanted and got some standard euro bar pulls instead. I've got a couch and multiple TVs in my basement ready to transport down to The Place. Plus, I have lots of little stuff like a trashcan, automatic paper towel dispenser and wall mounted soap dispenser for the utility sink. At least I have something to do over the winter but it would have been nice to finish even a week earlier. Oh yeah, and the main level floor - there is still that small item....

Greg_STL (sorry if you've covered this before), just for reference, how far away do you live from The Place?, you're mentioning about transporting goodies from the house to The Place. I'm about 15-18 miles/ 20-25km ish (in city traffic)... I found that drive to be so annoying lol, but I broke it up in sessions, take a few boxes here and there when I knew I could spend at least 6+ hours playing around in the shop.

As the crow flies it is probably not much over 5 miles but it is around 15 minutes drive time - maybe a smidge less. I know we have driven down and swapped cars out and been back home in 30 minutes total time round trip.

**EDIT** ~6 1/4 miles by road, ~4 1/4 miles as the crow flies (Google Maps)

1 work day left (for the contractor)...
2 work days left (for me!)...

All is done but the final clean-up and paint. I verified both sinks run hot water. I didn't run the dishwasher but when I opened it was wet indicating it had run. The fridge was cold but empty. Tomorrow they have final inspections scheduled. I plan to get some some work done tomorrow night and at least bring some stools down. My TV mount shipped from IL today. It's a long shot it will be delivered tomorrow but there is a chance. I'll get the couch down there on Saturday for sure.

The final inspection was signed off this morning. They touched up the worst of the paint fixes. There was no one there this afternoon, so we snuck in and dropped off some bar stools and a couch. I cleaned the ceiling paint overspray off the garage door windows. After that we went home for dinner. When we came back, there was a crew mopping the main floors. When they finished up, we went in and put drawer pulls on the cabinets and set up one TV on the floor. The big four TV mount won’t be here till Monday but I figured I should at least put one TV in the space for tomorrow. The big ladder is still there so maybe they are coming back tomorrow for something???

I was busy today and totally forgot to take pictures. Duh!!

If anyone is planning to come they posted this FAQ on Facebook:

FAQ: The Grand Tour event at Cars and Coffee St. Louis
-
Q: Are pets allowed?
A: Yes, pets are allowed if they are looked after.
-
Q: Is there a separate Cars and Coffee event in the morning?
A: No! There is not a separate Cars and Coffee Saturday morning. Since the event will feature an outdoor movie screen we have moved the entire show to 6PM. The GT screening & Cars and Coffee are the same event.
-
Q: Can I bring my car inside the gates?
A: Since we are very short on inside space, we will have diagonal show parking outside the building for Cars and Coffee attendees. We want to display the finest cars inside the gates – if you believe that’s your car, send us a message!
-
Q: What time should I show up?
A: As close to 6PM as possible.
-
Q: What time will the screening begin?
A: Approximately 7PM.
-
Q: Will hosts Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May be present at the screening?
A: No, they are still shooting Season 2. We believe they’re currently in Canada.
-
Q: When is Season 2 of The Grand Tour going to be released?
A: Season 2 won’t be shown until it is released on 12/8. The goal of this screening is to spread the word about the show, get people excited and to see if they already have interest in The Grand Tour.

People still wearing shorts! Must be nice out. Looks like a nice day for it.

The high in Saint Louis was 87 or 88 today. The night was nice, though.

Greg, I didn’t get to meet you, but your space is absolutely amazing. I didn’t know which person was you, and I’m sure you were busy.

It was a fun day and a slightly weird event. They didn't show a premier but just an episode from last year. It was still fun but I'm sure some people went away disappointed.

They set up a blow up screen in one of the corners.

Congrats on closing your unit with the builder and getting your cars inside.
It looks great.
Where did you get those bar stools? I like them.

@Boosted1 - I got the stools on Houzz for $49 and free shipping. I’m not sure how long they will last but we used them around the house for a couple weeks already waiting for the unit to get done. There were a total of 4 screws to put the seats on the post after the post snapped into the base.

Sorry I could not make it last night. I forgot that the event got moved to the evening and was one of about 20 that showed up in the morning to locked gates. Pretty sure your wife arrived as we were sitting outside chatting around 9:30. Kind of ***** that they didn't show the live show as planned. Probably a bunch of disappointed people.

Hope to make the next event in Nov., if there is one. Your place is coming along nicely!
