My wife and I went down to check out the floor this evening. We packed up some cleaning stuff to clean the upstairs (mezzanine) since I knew it was dusted bad. We parked outside and went in the man sized door and the fumes were still crazy. I walked around some and took a couple pictures but it was insane. My face literally hurt after a few minutes. I opened the main vehicle door and we went to the clubhouse while it aired out.

A game of Golden Tee later, we went back over and the fumes were nearly gone. Oh my, there was a lot of dust upstairs. Maybe I shouldn't have bought the couch before the floors were done. We wiped down the counters and desk, vacuumed all the floors, and generally cleaned upstairs.

On the main level, it was dust and paint chips. I wiped down all the walls, the sink, the stair rails. We had extra chips coming out of light switches and electrical outlets. We vacuumed up chips in the man door sill. It looks better now but it was a quick job tonight to just knock down the worst of it. I think its going to take a couple rounds to get everything cleaned up. It definitely still needs to air out more as well. It was almost 60 degrees out tonight but the weather is going to drop from 60 degrees to around 35 degrees from 9am to 3pm tomorrow.

Here are a couple new pics. This first pair is of the support column before and after the epoxy install. The metal was painted the dark grey and the grout was covered with epoxy and chips.

This is a close up of the vehicle garage door. There is a metal lip between the main garage floor and the outside slab that made an obvious location to stop the epoxy/chips. You can see both the dust on the walls and the loose chips in this shot.

And here is a panorama shot from the back corner. Again, this was taken before we knocked some of the dust down off the walls.

I think once the baseboard gets installed it will clean up the look around the column bases and the floor to wall interface in general. Baseboards get installed the week after Thanksgiving. I'm going to try hard not to bring in too much stuff between now and then.

Oh man that floor looks nice! I imagine you must be incredibly happy to finally finish it after all you've gone through to get to this point.

I would not have anticipated that much dust either, but I think of how much kicks up when someone uses a concrete saw outside...same principle. Hang in there with the clean up, the end result appears more than worth it.

There was not that much dust. I think I was just annoyed with myself for starting to populate the mezzanine so there is more to clean up.

Floor looks great! Would you recommend the contractor and did y feel that their pricing was reasonable? I've been looking for someone to do our 750 sq ft floor but have not been impressed so far.

@SteveL - I would recommend the floor crew without a doubt. I sent you a PM.

@ everyone else - The base board goes in on Monday. I’ve been trying to keep from going crazy buying things with all the Black Friday sales. I picked up a Gorilla 22 ft combination A frame and extension ladder. It should allow me to reach almost anything I need to reach in the garage except the lights and ceiling fan and still fold up to store out of the way.

I also ordered a Husky 52” rolling toolbox on sale at Home Depot. There are nicer boxes out there but it will still be a huge improvement over my little 27” Craftsman box I bought 20 years ago. I also could not help but order a few New Age Cabinets from Depot as well. I went with the Pro versions because they are 84” tall and I have plenty of height in my unit. I ordered two tall multi-use lockers and one wall cabinet in grey (on sale of course).

The compressor I want is back ordered. I’m looking at all sorts of tools to fill that box. I’ve got pent up tool envy from 2.5 years of building and 20+ years in a tiny two car garage. Im sure there will be something I can’t resist on Cyber Monday.

Well done! I cannot wait to see once you have moved in. Have you thought about layout once you get all your boxes and workbench in?

@Jay8s - I have given it lots of thought but it keeps changing. There really is not as much room as you would think. It is less than 23 feet wide. If I want to be able to park two cars wide, I can really only put things on the wall with the stairs and sink. The wall joggle, sink placement and stairs limit that down as well. I’ve got some cabinets, a big tool box and seasonal wheel/tire storage that is going to fill most of it. I’m going to get the big pieces in and figure out how much fill in space is really there. The tires are the real wild card right now. I’d like to keep them at ground level for convenience but may have to go up. Fun stuff to play with over the next months....

Double score today. Not only did I get to do some minor work at the Place but the whole family came down and we binge watched some "Stranger Things" on the big screens.

I put up two security cameras in the unit and the cords looked to me like they could get snagged and pulled down easy. I bought some inexpensive paint-able conduit. We put them up Saturday and painted them slowly over a couple days. It takes all of 5 mins for a coat but it needed several and there were multiple colors. The red in particular just needed multiple coats.

I'm going to get a flatter USB charger for the one on the back wall but otherwise I think it turned out reasonably well.

The "Stranger Things" binge happened due to needing to paint and to wait for it to dry. I picked up Season 1 for $10 at Target on Thursday at their pre-Black Friday sale. We could paint, watch an episode while it dried, then repeat... My daughter brought some homework so she could study. It was a nice morning/afternoon. We even brought the dog. Good times....

Construction Done!!

Construction is official complete!!! They put the last molding in place today. I think it cleaned up the look considerable.

We moved in our first vehicle. The weather is nice enough my wife is still driving the Porsche - so the EOS gets stored for now. You can't really see but its hooked up to a trickle charger to keep the battery in good shape. I brought down my first set of wheels and tires. I have two more sets to bring down. I have a big jack to bring down but I'm a bit scared to bring it in and mess up the floors. I'm sure I'll get over "The garage is too nice to use" syndrome ... eventually.

Congrats on your finally finished garage! What do you call it, our garage, our shop or something else? If I ever make it to StL I will have to come see this facility.

The VW looks soooo small in there. It has been a journey, but it looks worth it. Go scratch something and just get it over with. It is a garage to be used. I can't wait to check it out.

Congrats!!!!!

Black Friday/Cyber Monday Haul

So the filling of the garage has commenced....

I ordered this Husky 52" rolling tool box from HD on Thursday. I looked at some of the other 52" Husky boxes but they were not as deep and seemed like they were not as stable. They had this one in the store and I liked the dual power strips inside the top box for charging batteries and such. I lusted after some even higher end boxes but thought I was going overkill with this box as it was.

24818838868_62373c8e98_z.jpg

I also ordered some New Age Pro 3.0 cabinets in grey from HD on Friday. I considered the red but I was not sure if the red would look right with the red stripe already in the unit. I just got two 84" tall multi-lockers to go between the sink and the back wall plus one wall cabinet for over the sink.

Finally, for Cyber Monday, I used the 20% off coupon at Acme Tools to get a Milwaukee compact cordless impact wrench. Milwaukee was already running a special with an extra battery with a two battery kit. I wound up getting the tool, charger, and three batteries for $260. I got the compact version because I figured for tire swaps the 200 ft-lbs was probably good. If I need more torque I plan on getting a air impact wrench for the air compressor. I also figured with the compact impact wrench I would have a greater chance of using it other places with tighter reaches while working on my cars. Now, I'm not positive what I'm going to do with three batteries but I'm sure Milwaukee has a tool for that....

And with that ... I think I better stop buying things for a while.....

The finished shop pics look amazing. I can't wait to see how you outfit it with gear! One of my friends has New Age boxes too, they're quite nice.

That looks really clean. Much better than the raw CAT5 we have in my+friends shop, but it's an unfinished pole barn. I'm putting 1/2 gang boxes behind the cameras in my home garage, I will probably mount the cameras to a metal box cover and call it good.

Starting to fill in. The tool box showed up today and I was able to do the minor assembly this evening. I have the New Age cabinets too but I haven't even gotten them out of the boxes yet. You can see the box for the wall cabinet in front of the sink.

Now I need to go through my small box in my home garage and figure out what comes to the condo garage and what stays at home....

Ha! I keep buying newer/better tools and then dump the old ones in my shed. So I basically have two or more of every power tool out there, therefore if I ever need to work outside, I don’t have to keep going back and forth between inside and outside the house.

Another fun day lifting and moving.... I need to give a little back story here. When I bought the New Age cabinets and Husky box on Black Friday, I had them shipped to my house. I was unsure if the freight companies would call ahead and was not sure how to handle straight delivery to the The Place. Turns out both companies called the day before. If I ship something big again, I'll just list the delivery address as The Place and meet them there. Live and learn.

So, Friday night we brought the Husky box down in the RAV4 in two trips. That lower box barely fit in the RAV4 but it fit. There was no hope of getting the 84" tall New Age cabinets to fit. So, I rented a HD truck today and moved the two cabinets down to The Place. They are HEAVY. The packaging says 310 lbs each with all the shipping material. I was in a bit of a rush so I didn't take pictures but my wife and daughters helped and it went surprisingly smoothly. I had the HD truck for all of 90 minutes and it cost me ~$25.

My daughter and I assembled the cabinets (put on the feet and installed shelves) while my wife washed her Porsche in the courtyard. It was the first time we washed a car down at the condos as well. My wife pulled her car in after we were done to see how much room there was.

There is plenty of room to park and still be able to open the doors to the cabinets.

27017769569_e42686787b_c.jpg

We didn't get to hang the wall cabinet yet. It will have to go a little higher than normal because of where I put the soap dispenser and paper towel dispenser. It is still sitting boxed where the eventual washer/dryer will go.

WOW! I am so jealous. This is just the thing to light my fire and work on my own garage. I am very impressed at how it has all come together. I can't wait to see it in person sometime.

I saw your wife driving down there in the Porsche today as my wife and I were out and about.

I’ll have to let her know she is famous. Or wait, I’ll never be able to live with her now. Can’t tell her..... Hope she is not reading this!!!!!

Haha. I saw a black 911 by the outlets. I checked the plate as she drove by. I’m trying not to sound creepy, but I am afraid I am failing.

The plane crash looks to be at the McDonalds at Long Road. That is about 2.5 miles from the place. It is actually closer to my house!!

It is the BP I filled up the HD truck last weekend after I moved the cabinets in.
