I have been browsing this site for years for ideas...

Tons of great threads and ideas. I figured it was time to start a thread with my 3 car garage re do.

Nothing crazy or super fancy. I just wanted a space where I could work on my toys and hang out with the family and neighbors.

A little back story.....

I bought the house in 2006 from the original owners. The garage was already drywalled and basically used as a storage facility. It had your typical 2x4 storage rack used from left over lumber and a make shift work bench that would have been better served as a an ironing board...lol

I gutted everything imediatley upon move in except the front strage shelving that I nicknamed the head smasher (you can see the white stripe on the back wall) becuse of how high it was and how close it was to the back door. As many of you know when you move into a house the savings account takes a beating for other things that are not garage related ;):D

Stay to the high side and can make it cole. sorry had to.
So what are your plans with the garage mate, and buying a house sure tightens up the money but a little bit each week slowly adds up mate and it also makes you do alot mre yourself when you can't afford to pay anyone so i think it's a blessing in disguise, look forward to more pics

Do as you can, nothing more like makin it a personal project to enjoy while waiting for the next little addition. Looks like you could make use of a shed out back for the bikes and quad at the very least though.

My first problem was I needed storage.

Like most people that are starting out I had a couple home depot style particle board/white cabinets that sit on the floor. These did a decent job for quite a couple years and made the move from apartment living to my first condo and then the house. They finally met there match when I came home to a water heater disaster that flooded the garage.

I sourced a company that would build me some custom cabinets. As you pull into the garage I had a 12' long bank of cabninets made that would house plastic bins that you would get at target or lowes. The cabinet is only 18" deep so I wouldn't loose the ability to park longer vehicles.

The cabinet to the right of the back door was built deep enough to hold my compressor. I wanted it without a floor so I could roll the compressor in or out if need be.

The cabinet to the left of the work bench was made to match the compressor cabinet and was mounted so I could easily move it to get to the "new" water heater

The work bench is made by putting a 3/4 inch peice of ply wood on 2 rolling craftsman tool boxes.

I then made a display cabinet out of 3/4 mdf so I could display toys and trinkets as well as store the garages AV equipment.

After all of the cabinets were in I convinced the wife we should paint the garage....seems margaritas are a good form of compensation

I decided on a black bottom with a white top and a blood red chair rail to break up the colors.....While these colors aren't ground breaking they screamed hot rod garage to me and I wanted to keep it simple.

A couple years have passed( a kid will do this to you) without a ton of work being done to the garage. I added some decorations and some stainless steel shelving to the right of the work bench.

The cabinets are working out great and everything has a home.

I have done some major builds/projects in the garage over the last couple years and the painted floors that the previous owner handled have taken a beating......in the future I will probably end up with a porcelin floor as I think its the only thing that will come close to withstanding the abuse I throw at it.

So about a month ago I decided enough time had passed and it was time to paint the cabinets. I had procrastonated long enough partially becuse I couldn't decide on colors and also lets be honest......painting *****

After tossing around some ideas I decided on a gloss black base with red doors that would match the chair rail.

I had some friends tell me the red would be too much but I trusted my gut...

I finished up the doors with 3 coats of red.

I knew I wanted to put on some door handles as grabbing the doors with grease on your hands was part of the reason I decided to paint in the first place. The gloss paint will hold up a ton better than the mdf but I still don't want it dirty. I went to home depot thinking I would end up with just some round black knobs becuse nice handles would have driven the price up quite a bit.....Ended up finding 2 contractors packs of some nice black and bronzed handles for about the same cost as the junk ones.

imho...the handles were the key to really pulling the project together

I like your cabinets. Good thinking on the hot water heater access cause is it going to go out at some point. And its a pain moving wall cabinets, a workbench and a ceiling mounted A/C just to get to the door. (Ask me how I now).

Love the C10 but we need more pics and details. Does it have some muscle under the hood?:D

Looks great, it came together nicely. Where is the Corvette?

Corvette was in a past life...lol

Sold the vette so I could remodel my back yard and pay for a wedding.....I miss the car alot but I think I made the right choice as I have a great life.

I actually did very well on the car and last I heard it was living in Las Vegas

2004
6 speed
polished Magnacharger
baer breaks
ccw wheels
magnaflow exhaust
etc...

Car made 465hp to the rear wheels and ran the 1/4 at 11.4 @124 (Would have gone faster but the stock clutch would have been destroyed and I wasn't in drag race destroy my nice corvette mode. I destroyed my 00 SS Camaro at the track (motor/clutch,rear) back in 02 and decided I wanted a nice all around car

I had a Kawi X-2 like that - fun ski! Good luck with your garage project.

Thanks....

Always been partial to the x2's. I have owned the ski since new and did a 750 swap a couple years back. Don't ride it much since I have a couple boats. Just sold my 06 sxr 800 last year becuse it was sitting....That one I miss riding teh most;):)

The stance and color on the CST is perfect :rocker:

Thanks guys....

Truck is a 1969 C10 350/sm65 combo (4 speed manual)

Motor is nothing special...gm 290hp crate motor with a holley 600 cfm carb,****** long tubes and full magnaflow exhaust. (truck makes about 250hp/320tq to the wheels) truck still has open diff in the rear with 3:08 gears. It moves down the freeway at 75mph with little effort.

Its a clean and reliable 3 owner truck. Guy I bought it from was a park ranger in utah and drove it to zion national park for work 3 days a week. The truck has been on several 250+ mile trips and never given me a single issue.

I have done several little things over the past 3 years but the biggest were the front disc brakes and ECE 4.5/6.5 drop. Obviously the race line 20" wheels were the cherry on the sundae:D

Here is a build thread for the truck...

here is the day I brought it home from Utah.....drove great but the drum brakes were sketchy going through vegas..lol

My son is a huge fan of the truck and has been helping me work on her since day 1. I tend to go through alot of cars but this one will be a keeper. In the future I could see a little more performance and a more driver based manual ****** as well as a powdercoated and detailed frame and bags.

The color will remain the samer....basically I never want a car thats too nice to drive;)

My 98 Tahoe 2door ( rare) is as clean as they come and I'm actually more nervous about driving that as its all original and super sano.:lol_hitti

GREAT photo of the helper!!! The cabinets came out great - I've been meaning to build a whole wall of something similar for the kids jackets and boots. Maybe soon.

Well I think it's officially time for 2.0

Garage has served me well and handled quite a few projects and builds over the years. It's actually a little surreal to look back at this and see how far I have come.....I'm not just talking the garage but life as I have more gray hair and my little helper is about to turn 9 years old:D

This remodel should about wrap up the garage. Not all that much more I can do but improve and work towards making it my dream build.

This build will have several segments and I will try and break them up in a vlog series on youtube as we go....below is the link to basically the start.

Plans include

Finish off the garage attic for more storage (almost complete)

New flooring - Race deck freeflow

New storage/cabinets/Racks to improve upon what I already have....everything needs a clean home

New work bench.

Electrical - Re wire for better lighting as well as improve outlet location for power.

Lighting - Ditch the current 6 bulb set up and swap over to 9 l.e.d. fixtures

Audio video - not there yet but thinking flush mount surround set up and possible upgrade the current plasma to a 50" ++ LED TV

First thing first was to attack the garage roof. Sick of looking up and seeing all of the wife’s Christmas and Halloween boxes so decided to finish decking the trusses and bought and installed a drop down ladder.

Almost done still need to cut and add some extra panels to finish it off.

Tons of room up there now and it has Mede accessing the attic a lot more enjoyable...lol03e675b2ac2363118c22aaec18e45341.jpg1d824db923ac26134413f4fc5de29c5d.jpge4e3ac4a096c94d176d9aef0206cfc2e.jpg

So garage flooring.....what can I️ do to improve probably the most important part of the garage?

My garage has painted concrete done by the previous owner. The ground has taken a beating over the years from various builds and aside from looking crappy to start with just hasn’t held up to break,****** and other fluids.

I️ have been around too many epoxy coatings that have failed. Diy to full pro action just didn’t seem like what I️ was looking for and I️ knew it would be an expensive experiment by the time they ground off all the paint and prepped the surface correctly. Seems to be a them that people do epoxy and after it starts to fail they than go for a composite flooring that covers it up.

I️ decided to skip the first part and go home he composite route from the start.

Enter Jorgen and Racedeck...it’s well know on GJ that he takes care of the members so I️ shot him an email looking for a quote. The price was great but With 2 weeks until thanksgiving I️ asked if he planned to do a GJ Black Friday sale and he said if I️ could hold off it would be a smart decision.[emoji41][emoji106]

I️ made the decision to go with the 12” freeflow tiles.

I️ was out of town for the holidays so I️ took a picture of my design and wrote out everything that was needed and set an alarm on my phone for bright and early Black Friday morning.

I️ called spoke with a lovely rep and told her I️ was calling for the GJ Black Friday sale and 5 minutes later the order was complete and my garage floor would never be the same...lol

All items were shipped and enroute before I️ even got back from vacation. They showed up the Tuesday after turkey day.

I️ brought everything home from work Friday and started cleaning out the garage to get ready for the install. Saturday morning the wife and kid helped me drag out the heavy items and we spent an hour cleaning, sweeping and blowing out the garage.

85% of the install goes really fast like 1.5 hours fast when you get a couple people installing tiles. My 8 year old son who is a lego master builder was great at lining up the tabs in the correct manner and snapping them in. It was so fun even a couple neighbor kids joined in on the snapping.

The remaining install with the trimming takes most of the time and luckily a good buddy of mine stopped by to show off his new c7 so I️ put him to work...lol

I️ would say it took us another 3 hours to cut the remains tiles for the 2 walls and around the base of the water heater box.

I️ had good luck using a 12” compound mitre saw with a standard wood blade. I️ only ruined one tile trying to cut a flight angle because I️ went to hard on the initial cut. Seemed to like a slow not to deep pass first followed by a couple other passes to fully get through the material. I️ set up a stop block for the back wall as it was pretty straight and we burned through those tiles really fast once the assembly line was set.

I️ ordered what I️ thought was probably 5-7 extras for each of the colors as well as 31 pieces of the finishing drive up trim. The trim ended up being perfect and I️ was actually able to use the 3 extra trim pieces to handle my side garage door...completely not planned but worked perfect[emoji12][emoji41][emoji85]

I️ think I️ ended up with a box and a half left over...I️ threw them in the attic just in case I️ damage a tile down the line.

Overall I️ give the racedeck transformation 2 thumbs up. The install is probably only a 2 out of 5 wrenches and immediately transforms your garage to a showroom......I️ have had multiple people stop while driving by to compliment the flooring.

Enjoy the photos....made my buddy be the first one in the garage with his new corvette so we could do it right and get some cool photos...lolc23b83a296f67c904864ee869125370b.jpgbf1e43958c9005710911888e56b6fdc3.jpg861e81a32468aaa6a35d03c8bd8052a5.jpg1375aaebce681ad8084204652f3b1946.jpge9b6e5eec84a5af96f9896ae448f98d5.jpgef390e8eda4d136b18402d4128bd1b95.jpga684c988aa33cd304b10f6d78046a798.jpg5edf947354e1c12a111dfbb30a3fd105.jpgf10cd0d5283b3910bb5a188394ce69eb.jpg42859326cefe0994ed4a7b1be478de8b.jpg329727bcec8c3c7d137c63e5f7694e06.jpg87d98ef2ba9a7a509f9202f679b56a2c.jpgca05c3aeec3d10762be3b62ad52a760f.jpg4d0883e3c0e5f27734b61fcc65bbcb5a.jpg38399e21d4919c405f9753129b1380f6.jpg80f58004c1a81ac6ef5169580e3cca3d.jpg

Workbench time!!!

15 or so years ago I made the work bench you will see in the first picture. It was constructed using two craftsman rollers and a 3/4” mdf top wrapped in carpet. It served me well and survived the move from our first condo to the new house.

Over the years I have changed the area to the right of the bench with different storage solutions but was never really in love. Last program had a stainless rack for the families rc cars.

I have done a lot of research over the years and have really been impressed with what the GJ members have come up with. I have flat out out grown the storage capacity of the two little craftsman rollers so decided to go a different route.

After checking out some of the 44” harbor Freight Tools tool chest builds that’s the direction I decided to go. My wife was cool enough to buy me one on sale for my birthday and I grabbed a second one while we were there...lol

I will let the pictures speak for themselves with what I started with and where we are today. Still have plenty of sanding staining and painting to go as well as making matching doors for the side cabinets.

Nice Rides, hope to give my 02 Camaro SS a spot like that shortly.

I am going to do a similar floor when I get my garage built, Red boarder & Graphite field in the Free Flow.

Both kids out of college now so maybe it will actually get built ;)

Wanted to add some of the last pictures i had of this garage/house. Tons of great memories and good times

We sold the house in June and have made the move from So cal to Southern Utah. With the way the world is going we felt the time was right to head to a state that aligns a little more with our political beliefs and who we are as a family.

Currently building a 2700 sq foot single story home with a 1200 sq foot garage. :)

Congrats on the move. Left No. Cal 25 years ago and haven't looked back for even a second. Post up pics of new shop when you get started.
