Re: 2017 Lowe's deals/sales/clearance thread

looks like another thread needs to be created to correct the title

edit: Didn't think thread titles could be edited. Couldn't find it the time I needed to.

Thanks for putting all the good stuff from past years in the OP. Someone got a little ancy getting the HD one up, and left all that good stuff out.

Go to https://brickseek.com/lowes-inventory-checker/ and put 1000055289 in the product # field. I randomly tested with a California zip code and happened to see one (which may or may not actually exist) at a store in 90250.

Since the product is no longer available on the website - see https://www.lowes.com/pd/Kobalt-40-...l-Bearing-Steel-Tool-Cabinet-Black/1000055289 - you can't buy except by either finding one within driving distance and buying in-person, or trying to call some stores that supposedly still have some of these and have it shipped (IIRC people have sometimes been successful with phone orders in situations like that).

Thanks! Just to clarify I put in the item # of the rolling box I’m looking for in the brick seeker?

I put in an order for 8 of the 9 available to re-lamp two 4-bulb units under my primary working area. We'll first see if Lowes can find them and then how much it improves the lighting.
Update: Ordered the 9th one too. A spare in case I drop one or something.

Post how you like them if you manage to get any. I have a $50 Lowe's card from Christmas and I was looking at these already about a month ago.

How do you identify what type of ballast you have in a light? Will it be labeled as such? I've got a few cheapo fluorescent lights I replaced with LED units awhile ago, but kept the old lights. If I could put in some cheap LED tubes, I'd repurpose them for under the eaves just outside the garage door when I have the garage door open in the evening while working on stuff. Also shed lighting.

Wife picked up some of the Ultilitechs I posted the link to. I switched the one in the utility room, much brighter. Too cold to check out the ones in the garage right now I’ll wait for some warmer weather.

That's one of the things I really was wondering. Saving some money on a power bill may or may not happen. The ones I have currently almost don't work in this weather.

Really? I assume its cold where you are using them. I thought temp didn't matter.

I've also read if the LED tubes need the ballast to run then your electricity saving will not be that good. Ballast uses quite a bit so I'm told but don't know if its true.

Yeah, my original plan was to pull down fixtures and eliminate ballasts. This was a pretty cheap way to increase workshop light output. They are 18w instead of the 40W tubes I am running now, so some power savings. I think the full LED mods are closer to 12W?

The ones I'm currently using are florescent.

Have any of you guys noticed that Lowe’s is the only store I know of (and I shop clearance everywhere) that will actually take things OFF clearance and put them back to full price lol

I was in there the other day and they had the “Tough Tested” headphone ear protection thingies on clearance (not sale) all 3 models, a Marine, Jobsite, and “Ranger” model we’re all on clearance about 25-40% off if I remember correctly...

So, I go back in a few days later to buy one, and low and behold the Ranger and Jobsite (the one I wanted) we’re back up to normal price... only the marine one was still clearance!

I have seen this happen at my Lowe’s store multiple times too where one Day an item is on clearance, the tag will say “clearance” instead of “new low price” and then I go back in a few days later and it’s back to a normal white tag, no discount...

Lowe’s is the only store I have ever seen do this...

Anyone else notice that? Is this common knowledge? To me it seems dumb.

Unfortunately, I've also experienced this repeatedly with Sears, and even with Walmart.com lately.

Local Lowes store took all holiday merchandise off discount, marked it all well *above* list price, then marked it down 75%. End result? The 'discount' price was about 25% less than list. It was more expensive than it was before it was put on clearance.

Local store was very sloppy about the price tags on the shelf and you could flip them up to see how the prices were marked up, down, then back up again before clearance.

I did not buy.

Home Depot does this as well. I’ve seen it on items ranging from $35 canopy weights to $500 sheds.

Not in my experience. I bought 3 spools of lights for $25 ea earlier in the year.

Current price is $6.25 with "previous price" of $24.98. Not sure what official "list price" is on these but they are always in the $25 range.

I did not look at the store. I did my shopping online.

There is a tool cabinet at one of the stores I wander through, it's black with blue chrome pulls. It was on clearance for $300 off for a while, now it's back to something like $750. I guess if you can't sell it you might as well make it more expensive!!

Usually happens when the item's season comes back around, and the store starts stocking it again. Not always.

Usually. The shed was a funny one though. Bought the last one over a weeken, at $125. Went to pick it up a couple days later, and they had 4 more in stock at $499. :dunno:
