Thanks a lot! Hollands and Simplex are probably the hardest vises to find catalog info on.

Horseshoe retainer in front is stamped and not cast like the Parkers are.
Dynamic support shelf is snapped off like 454’s
A couple of pages back, you guys were speculating about the maker of an unusual little vise. Parker? Prentiss?
Here is one I have on a shelf that is similar but not the same as the one that 454 found.
Who made this one? The only mark is the “20”. The jaws are 2 1/4 inches wide and appear to be cast in.

(Yes, that is a custom stand I made from a scrap of T&G Cherry flooring material...the little scrap of old wood came with the vise and I decided to leave it for history. I haven’t cleaned anything...just as found)
I've made a list of current Western made vices (excluding the numerous Japanese made ones I saw whilst visiting)
Any makers missing ?
Also I wasn't sure about US production hence the question marks ?

In no particular order we have;
1) FZA in Italy. They offer models made of forged steel, cast Iron or cast steel. The also now make Leinen vises and perhaps for some other tool companies too

2)GRESSEL in Switzerland
http://www.gressel.ch/storage/brochures/20_AX_PS.pdf
3)RIDGID-Peddinghaus. Steel drop forged in Germany
4) HEUER. Drop forged steel made in Germany. Available from numerous outlets online so I guess the largest Western manufacturer. The smaller vises are good value in the EU. I own the 125mm version. The website shows the forged parts. https://www.heuer.de/en/vices/vice/
5)DOLEX. Forged in France.

6)PENN stahlgeschmiedet Austria
http://www.penn.at/stahlgeschmiedet/...hnische-daten/
7)YORK. Made in the Czech Republic. Their pre-war 1936 model is what the later Wilton bullet design was based on

8)KUPPER. Made in Germany. Their cheaper non-forged line is cheaper than some Chinese made brands. https://www.friedrich-kuepper.de/pro...&no_children=1
9)KANCA made in Turkey.Their forged steel vices are similar to Heuer and Peddinghaus. Also an interesting blacksmiths vice is available. Pdf catalogue here:
http://www.kanca.com.tr/download/pdf/ElAletleri_EN.pdf
10) SCHLEGEL made in Germany up until circa 2010. Some NOS still around. Design similar to Leinen. High quality cast.
11)WILTON. Only high end models US made. Interesting this small one looks like it was sourced from York according to the COO
https://www.zoro.com/wilton-portable...specifications
12)REED. The big ones are made in the US, the smaller stuff too ?

13)YOST. Mid-price forged steel model is made in Taiwan.Cast iron China. Are the expensive industrial grade models US made ?

Shift, did the bolt in the side and the hole in the static on the #20, make for some sort of pipe jaw.![]()

I'm wondering if a rod with a taper shaped end went in there, to form like a horn on an anvil?![]()
in my previous post I missed the key word current![]()

KMS, you are saying that the oldest #20s were bored clean through for the horn.---And the bolt was to anchor it.---If so, that would be an easy replacement fix.

Damn $319!And they still make them http://www.starrett.com/metrology/p...sion-Hand-Tools/Precision-Measuring-Tools/86a
Color me jealous Va! I'm really wanting to acquire a one of these little swivel base vises and a Stanley sweetheart clamp on or through bench mount like those you've posted. Only place I ever see 'em is on eBay and more often than not they end up selling for more than I've had to pay for any of my bigger vises.A few more pics for posterity.
Both 2000s had a bad casting seam on the back of the static.---I tried to show that in the first pic.
