Thanks a lot! Hollands and Simplex are probably the hardest vises to find catalog info on.

The article may start you on a quest.

Joe:
Nice haul! Plus finally somebody else showed up with an ACCO vise. Here is my ACCO 3 inch model. Incredibly heavy for a 3 inch vise (60 pounds)

Thrumcap:
Great score on all that iron, especially the 7 inch Parker double swiveller! $75??...You ****!

A couple of pages back, you guys were speculating about the maker of an unusual little vise. Parker? Prentiss?
Here is one I have on a shelf that is similar but not the same as the one that 454 found.
Who made this one? The only mark is the “20”. The jaws are 2 1/4 inches wide and appear to be cast in.
Horseshoe retainer in front is stamped and not cast like the Parkers are.
Dynamic support shelf is snapped off like 454’s

(Yes, that is a custom stand I made from a scrap of T&G Cherry flooring material...the little scrap of old wood came with the vise and I decided to leave it for history. I haven’t cleaned anything...just as found)

I've made a list of current Western made bench vices (excluding the numerous Japanese made ones I saw whilst visiting)

Any makers missing ?

Also I wasn't sure about US production hence the question marks ?

In no particular order we have;

1) FZA in Italy. They offer models made of forged steel, cast Iron or cast steel. The also now make Leinen vises and perhaps for some other tool companies too
http://www.agenziaforte.com/download...no-FZA-MCP.pdf

2)GRESSEL in Switzerland
http://www.gressel.ch/storage/brochures/20_AX_PS.pdf

3)RIDGID-Peddinghaus. Steel drop forged in Germany

4) HEUER. Drop forged steel made in Germany. Available from numerous outlets online so I guess the largest Western manufacturer. The smaller vises are good value in the EU. I own the 125mm version. The website shows the forged parts. https://www.heuer.de/en/vices/vice/

5)DOLEX. Forged in France.
https://www.dolex.fr/en/

6)PENN stahlgeschmiedet Austria
http://www.penn.at/stahlgeschmiedet/...hnische-daten/

7)YORK. Made in the Czech Republic. Their pre-war 1936 model is what the later Wilton bullet design was based on
http://www.york.cz/en/workshop-bench-vices-york-text

8)KUPPER. Made in Germany. Their cheaper non-forged line is cheaper than some Chinese made brands. https://www.friedrich-kuepper.de/pro...&no_children=1

9)KANCA made in Turkey.Their forged steel vices are similar to Heuer and Peddinghaus. Also an interesting blacksmiths vice is available. Pdf catalogue here:
http://www.kanca.com.tr/download/pdf/ElAletleri_EN.pdf

10)BISON made in Poland
http://www.bison-bial.com/vises/bench-vises

11) SCHLEGEL made in Germany up until circa 2010. Some NOS still around. Design similar to Leinen. High quality cast.

12)WILTON. Only high end models US made. Interesting this small one looks like it was sourced from York according to the COO
https://www.zoro.com/wilton-portable...specifications

13)REED. The big ones are made in the US, the smaller stuff too ?
https://www.reedmfgco.com/en/product...nd-pipe-vises/

14)YOST. Mid-price forged steel model is made in Taiwan.Cast iron China. Are the expensive industrial grade models US made ?
http://www.yostvises.com/products/be...tion-vise.html

15) MORGAN traditional US made
http://www.milwtool.com/v_mach.htm

16)SWINDENS made in England since 1928. Swivel jaw
http://www.swindens.org/our-products/4593157800

17) BERGEON Swiss made watchmakers vices. Expensive
https://www.hswalsh.com/product/berg...ch-vice-hv2021

18) UNIOR Slovenian made.
http://www.uniortools.com/cgi-bin/cm...80&prod=128663

19) VIROVITICA made in Croatia

Shift, my dynamic support isn't broken. Took some clearer pics outside (was so excited had to take some in the kitchen the other night to show you guys, bad shadows). Could be wrong, but that horseshoe retainer looks like it was made from a washer and added to that vise.

1875 Frasse catalog has Parker #20 with 2 1/4" jaws. Your lower rotating handle is different but I suspect only a few years off.....

I'm wondering if a rod with a taper shaped end went in there, to form like a horn on an anvil? :dunno:

That’s what I thought when I first looked at it.

Va:
The mystery continues...pipe jaw?...

454:
Sorry, I now see that your shelf is intact. Earlier I confused your little guy with the very similar one posted by fierljeppen shown again here.

in my previous post I missed the key word current

The reason I made the list was to dispel the notion, in some quarters outside the thread, that all vice production has moved to China. At least 14 Western companies beavering away prove otherwise.. ;)

Chinese pot metal horror: from amazon customer reviews...

Shiftless...It sure look's like a Parker #20 to me as well. I've attached some photos of a Parker #19 & #20 I own.

The #19 has no Parker markings like yours and shows the improved collar, while the #20 has the original style collar like 454's.

I suspect that the horn of the anvil is missing and someone modified it with a screw to hold something in the hole.

It's a really nice mantle piece with the ultra rare original swivel handle.

Shift and VA, That Parker is missing the collar and the hole is missing the horn. Parker bored a hole through the Static to add the horn so it was more stationary. Yours is a little older then these pic;s since yours has the under the bench swivel clamp.

KMS, you are saying that the oldest #20s were bored clean through for the horn.---And the bolt was to anchor it.---If so, that would be an easy replacement fix.

Not Kevin, but I think the anvil horn was a press fit in the main body. I think that bolt was probably added by the same guy that made the horseshoe retainer on Shifts vise.

All interesting theories. Thanks for the input, guys.

Kevin:
Regarding the hole: It is a half inch non tapered hole drilled clear through.

454:
If only that vise could talk...

Jeff:
Good way to put ‘em to work!

Shift, I bet someone was beating on the casting anvil and busted the casting. They added the threaded hole to hold the horn in place. It seems the horn would be bigger then a 1/2" but that is a small vise. Neat vise.

Jeff, I hope you have soft jaws on that Jersey, I'm not sure how much pressure the phone glass can take.---But you throw on a 10'' cheater bar and give her a good spin and we'll find out what she can stand.:D

Here's a little Victor Sweetheart that bolts through the table.---You have to bore a hole through the kitchen table.:D

I ain't no photog, so it was hard to get the lighting on the slide just right, so I didn't.---Had to bring it indoors to get that.

2'' jaws

2 1/4'' max opening

I found an AD for a Victor Jersey vise on this same pattern, but only is showing a 1 3/4'' jaw, a 2 1/2'' and 3'', but not a 2''.---The 1 3/4'' Jersey was 3 lbs., and the 2 1/2'' was 5 1/2 lbs.---So the 2'' Sweetheart should be somewhere in the middle I suppose.---If you can follow all that.

Well since we were discussing #20s and 2000s on the last page I thought I would take the opportunity to re-photograph my 2000s that have been held hostage for some time.---They were pretty close to the top of the pile so I dug them out.---Looks like I am eventually going to have to re-photo every one of my vise pics that are being held hostage, and once I have, I guess they can kill the hostages if they want to.---But I'm not paying no ransom.

I put in the #20 for size reference to.---The #20 and the #2000 are the same size and weigh exactly the same.

#2000 opens a max of 2 1/2''

Jaw width is 2 1/4''

Weight is 7.6 lbs.

Both 2000s had a bad casting seam on the back of the static.---I tried to show that in the first pic.

Color me jealous Va! I'm really wanting to acquire a one of these little swivel base vises and a Stanley sweetheart clamp on or through bench mount like those you've posted. Only place I ever see 'em is on eBay and more often than not they end up selling for more than I've had to pay for any of my bigger vises.

I was planning to just nickel plate and not paint my Prentiss Bull Dog 524 but after nickle plating (see photo one) I felt it does not look as good as when it is painted. So off to powder coating it went. Here are some photos before assembly. I will post more photos when it is assembled.

CRS Had pointed out to me that there was something special about this Prentiss as it might be gold anniversary or something edition as it has a "gold" badge.
