This is my newest addition to the shop. I traveled 4 hours round trip to pick up this beauty and it was worth every minute of drive time.
It’s a Wilton model 9-600.
It weighs about 156 pounds with the swivel base.
It’s 2 feet long and 1 foot tall.
6” Jaws
I can’t find any damage and the jaws are mint.
It should be a straight forward restoration.
Date code on the keyway is 173 (January 1973)

Disassembly continued, I haven’t decide if I should just wire wheel it or send to media blasting?

Today I wire wheeled and stripped the vise to bare iron and painted with a new rustoleum color - "metallic black stainless steel"
I used a medium stiffness, wire cup wheel on an angle grinder to clean the entire surface. I also used various sizes of wire wheel attachments and sanding cylinders on the dremel to clean out the counter sunk holes for the jaw bolts.
Followed by scotch bright and 3 acetone cleanings.
2 light coats self etching primer, will run alot if sprayed too close or too heavy.
4-5 coats of the rustoleum metallic black stainless steel paint. Amazed with how easy this stuff sprayed on. I had no issues with it running.
Followed by 4 coats of rustoleum crystal clear. Went on easy as well, with no running. 80 degrees and very low humidity. The wind started to pick up as soon as I finished so I moved it all into the garage to dry.
I did not have all the masking tape pulled off the jaws in the pics below.

The fasteners that hold the screws retainer plate on were seized and would not come out. All three sheared off, so I drilled them out and re tapped to the next size up. I picked up some new stainless Allen head screws.

Very nice, love how it turned out. I’m currently going down a similar road with a slightly newer (76) version with the 2 piece jaw.

Extremely cool. I don't have a lot of knowledge on Wilton vises, but this is not only cool but also a rare vise.
Also nicely restored!

It’s definitely not a collector by any means and I’m not at all concerned about it being as it was new. I was mostly concerned with making it as nice looking as possible. It should turn out ok, hopefully get it done this week. Just need to blast the main body and paint it.
