Eight days ago I sat 8 tires on my workbench and some 18 ga. sheet metal.
Along with about 3 dozen photos and a side and front line drawing from a brochure. Here is my progress so far . I am pleased with the results so far and each day it looks a little better. A lot of guessing but I am having fun in the shop again after 7 years of not building models. This is truck number 4 I am working on and I might work on this one more week and start one more model before I go back and start finishing them up. Still a lot to do on this one but you can get a good idea now of the overall look minus the dump box.

I am not much of models fan, but do take my hat off to your excellent work.
Is it a true copy of a vehicle?
What did have me scratching my head was the use of dual wheels up front, is that usual?
Nice work all the same and I will be keen to see how it progresses.

It's looking good but I'm wondering about the pivot point for the box being that far back. Tilting the box must almost lift the front wheels.

Thanks , Its a crazy looking design but this was actually a very popular early haul truck . They are still using some of them today . I see a few of them on Machinery Trader for sale.
Todays progress shows the radiator , the engine and the exhaust system now all cut out and welded in place. It looks very rough at this stage but it helps show all the separate hand made pieces and how they all come together to get the overall look. Once things get all welded then a lot of sanding is done to prep the metal for the filling of the rough areas. Tomorrow I will build the seat, the dash , the two side consoles with levers and foot pedals to get some inside detail of the cab. I continue to enjoy building these latest 4 models after a 7 year break from model building.

Plugging away at the PayHauler project. The dump box is taking shape and now has 51 pieces cut out and welded together . Not too many more pcs to go.

Thanks so much for the positive comments. I have always loved to putter my whole life . I bought my first welder in Mass. when I was in the Army. I was stationed at Fort Deven's. I rented a garage and I built two rail dune buggies on my days off. . I had never welded before. I been playing with the welders ever since and I still get excited to head to my little workshop. I should get this truck all roughed in this weekend. Next week I may get started on model number 5 before I go back to the other ones. Each new model is a one of a kind piece so it is completely new for me to figure out how to build it. I love that challenge. I will weigh the model when it is done and share that.

The snowblower worked great today, a layer of ice and 6" of snow on top. Here are the last two pics of the old dump truck construction. I will build the last few parts tomorrow and set this aside . I will start model number 5 this week. Once I come back to these four models I'll share the finishing stages of them .

...So, where did the tires come from?

Looks to be from a vintage Tamiya Mammoth Dump Truck.

They were the Tamiya Mammoth tires. I must have bought 100 of them . After these current projects I will have just TWO left . I been plugging away in the little workshop and making some progress. Here is the latest progress on the Service Truck. I am very pleased how it is looking so far. Still got several things to add next week and it will be done. Also the PayHauler parts are all painted and the cab interior is done and the cab windows installed. Next week I will post the next progress pics of it. Also the 12 ft long tandem grain hauler truck is painted. Might get back to that by next weekend . Also started the grader model . Very early stages on that , just 25 pieces made so far.

Holy cow, Don, I know we sound like a broken record, but your work is amazing. The service truck turned out even better than I imagined. It looks fantastic. Thanks for the look.
