In 2010 I built a 74x80 storage "barn" for my car collection and documented the build here. In 2013, I lost my job as a result of the of the manufacturing plant where I worked closing. It took a year to find a job with significantly less salary and I decided that I would never be without a "plan B" again. I have been building and restoring cars for me and my wife for over 30 years. I decided that going into the custom car and restoration business made perfect sense since I am the car guys car guy. My credentials are a collision technology degree, a mechanical engineering degree, and a MBA (whatever that's worth is questionable to be honest)
Business plan, revenue projection, cash flow analysis, conditional use permit for a rural business, SBA application/approval, talking to umpteen banks, loan application/approval, architectural drawings, general contractor quotes, revised quotes, bleeding money for expenses, logos, advertising, on and on and on. Brings us to January 23, 2020 and construction started on the shop, a 102x160 state of the art custom car and restoration shop. The name of the shop is Blue Collar Muscle Rods & Custom. On the internet http://bluecollarmusclerods.com/ and on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/BlueCollarMuscleRods/ I won't be posting a ton of photos here since the internet site will have all the photos under the 'shop tour' tab and I can post to FB quickly and easily without having to link to Photobucket. Check often or like the FB page to get updates in your timeline. Construction is likely 5-6 months. The original 74x80 build link is in my tag line and also on my website. I am looking for new clients and new team members. I am located in East Leroy, Michigan, southwest part of the state about 30 miles north of the Indiana state line.
I am posting the rendering of the shop. The shop will be split in the middle with a masonry block wall due to the size of the building and the corresponding fire codes. One end will be used for assembly work and will include a break area with a large table, restroom, and a four post lift. The shop office and a larger break area will be on a mezzanine and include a full bathroom, TV, sofa, table, and mini kitchen. The other end of the shop will be for fabrication, body work, and paint. This side has two rooms where we will work on cars to control the dust from migrating throughout the shop.. The room farthest from the view is the room where we will paint. These rooms are 20x27 and will provide ample room to work around the cars but also allow moving tool boxes and welders. Out of view is a two post lift.
