Wow, looks the same as the Snap On version, same model# too. Guessing Malco manufactures them for SO?

Yep, Snap On entered an agreement with them I believe, and they are the same vice grips with different branding.

I just put in an order for 2 through HJE.

Another order came in today, the Proto box isn't super impressive but for $15 it's at least made of decent sheetmetal. The corners aren't welded or connected by anything but paint so far as I can tell but in a box this small I'm not too worried about it. The Tekton hard handles I like so much I bought a #1 and a second #2. The circlip pliers, I got an A1 from Knipex and man are they nice! The A0 from Factor 75 does appear to be identical except in scale to my Orbis. It's obviously different from the Knipex but still built like a tank exactly like my other Orbis with the exception of the name on the handle.

A couple of new pliers, Merry nail in tire removal pliers & screw removal pliers. I have a few of the Engineer screw removal pliers but I really like the look of the rounded off head of the Merry.

Lang caliper tool that someone posted not too long ago. Yup, I'm liking this & looks like it'll be a perfect fit for my truck's calipers.

18 x 36 cutting mat. These are normally $50 on Amazon, been watching it for the past year. Over the weekend it dropped down to $22 for a very short time & I hopped on it. There used to be complaints about cutting mats being rolled up to save on shipping but they often don't settle back flat. So they ship em flat in big boxes now & I'm glad.

Finally found a stiff nail brush that I like. Been looking around & most are too soft for my liking. I got short nails so I don't actually need it to clean under my nails but that's what they're called. The red one is from Pep Boys, for $1 it was worth a try, it's ok.

Markal Laquer-Stiks (fill in paint). Got the red & white back when someone posted these. Just got the black. They don't come in these tubes though, I made em up to store them.

I have that cutting mat. Love it.

I didn't know about those fill-in sticks. I might have to pick one up and try them on some sockets. Maybe I'll be able to find them locally....

I used Alvin mats for a very long time. Then I decided to try Olfa mats cause I like Olfa & got them cheap at the local crafts store. What a mistake, the Olfa ones are so thin, like half the thickness of every other cutting mat I have ever used. Feels like I might slice right through them. So now that Alvin is back in business I'm slowly going back to Alvin in all the sizes I use. I've never had one this big though.

Yup the fill in sticks are great once you get the hang of how to use them properly. Sure beats trying to use a paint marker which I have done in the past.

This is the ratcheting wrench I use for my mill's drawbar. It doesn't have direction markings on it so it got annoying having to flip the damn thing most of the time. I used a paint marker before but it never really stood out that good. Now it does with the fill-in-stik.

I'll have to take a closer look at the mats now and compare them for future reference. I can't have enough of those cutting mats around.

Thanks for the pictures of the fill-in paint. That's exactly what I was looking for. I've used nail polish, but this seems easier.

i needed to get some keys cut for my '37 Buick and an Edsel im working on, so i figured i might as well buy the tool to do it. ebay find, Curtis #15 Key Clipper with a couple cams and carriages. It came with the cam i need for GM vehicles for 1935 through 1966, but i still need the accompanying cutter for it. Also bought a bunch of key blanks since i'll probably futz a few up figuring it out

2021-05-05_06-10-00 by Dan Haas, on Flickr

I used to use one sort of like that to cut keys for Harley's back in the 70's. It didn't have the fancy cams, just a lever to set the depth as I recall.

Good old Curtis. Can still remember the sales guy. He'd come in all dapper in a sharp suit. Boy, how times have changed.

No problem. Here's another one I did. The strippers on top came filled in from the factory. I was surprised the ones on bottom being the same brand didn't. At first I didn't really care but it started to bother me a little so I tried to use a paint marker & couldn't get the liquid paint to fill in at all. That's one of the reasons why I bought the black. The strippers on bottom the stampings aren't as deep as the ones on top but it still came out ok.

I have been going a little overboard with the tools. Everyone keeps saying if you can get it, get it. The per diem money from my frequent work trips are allowing me to indulge a little.

Snap On 12pt shallow and deep metric socket sets.

I've been wanting to build a socket tray that has everything I need to take care of my most common maintenance items. I wanted something that would eliminate me needing to constantly going into my socket drawer and this Ares tray fit the bill PERFECTLY. It was reasonably priced, compact, has a strong magnetic base, and the pegs from my VIM magrails work with this. It was exactly what I wanted.

And some duplicate sockets to start building up that tool tray. 10mm in in various styles, an e10, and a 1/4 socket for hose clamps.

I'm a sucker for BOGO deals on the SO truck, so I couldn't turn this deal down.

A tool store in Florida had a bunch of koken tools for like 50%-60% under MSRP. The only thing he had left that was of real interest to me were these Koken nut grip inverted torx sockets. I really just wanted the E10, but he had the entire set marked down to $21.

Some Vessel #2 bits to try out. My first vessel purchase. The bits are very nice - fit and finish seem better than SO.

Always wanted a pair, and they are on promo this month.

Terminal release tool set. The cheapo sets I used to have needed to go.

The socket on the left is a "custom" socket my I asked my dealer to make me. I needed a 10mm stubby hex bit socket in 1/2" drive. I measured some of the hex bit sockets I already had and found the broach depth in 1/2" and 3/8" hex bit sockets to be same. We were able to use a 10mm stubby hex from the 3/8" drive version and use it in the 1/2" drive socket. Porsche uses hex bit sockets for brake caliper bolts. They can be tough to remove, so I wanted one in 1/2" drive. I don't like using the longer version 10mm bit socket because it becomes a torsional spring, and I feel like I'm on the verge of snapping it.

And lastly...the best deal I have ever come across. The auction was nearly over for this SO air drill and the bid was only at $26. I threw a low ball bid in for $28 and ended up winning this for $28 + $15 shipping. I was pretty shocked since this is over $400 on the truck. I guess no one wants air tools these days. I'm perfectly okay keeping this as a "back up" for how little it costed me.

A new capacitance battery tester to go along with my carbon pile load tester I got last week. Should have no doubt when testing batteries now.

Also ended up buying the bolt buster kit.

Love to hear about how well that bolt buster works seeing as I live in the north east where everything has rust on it.

Quite a few threads on induction heaters here. Short answer is they work well. It wont replace oxy acetenyl though. The latter can heat up larger objects, is faster, doesnt require they protrude (for example an induction heater cant help you on frozen dowel pins), and a torch can cut. If you dont want to deal with the gas or dont trust yourself to not burn your car down then an induction heater is the next best thing.

Sweet victory,

How much did you pay for the Snap-on pliers on promo?

Thanks,

Any idea where these can be purchased in a count of less than 10?

I couldn't find em locally. The red I paid $3.09 & white $3.22 from a 3rd party seller on Amazon, PNWB Office Products is the seller. And that's including shipping (not Prime), I don't know how they make money on em. They were drop shipped from an industrial supplier (I forget the name).

The white ain't $3 any more but the red still is. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002BXJ91A/?tag=atomicindus08-20

The black I paid $6 from Amazon Prime.

Mcmaster sells em too. I'm not sure if it's the exact same brand but going by the details listed it sounds like it. https://www.mcmaster.com/2018T3/

BTW, speaking of Mcmaster, I buy the tubes from Mcmaster too to store all kinds of stuff in. I don't use the expensive caps they sell for them though, I just use vinyl caps, also from Mcmaster. The vinyl cap sizes are too small at first, ya gotta stretch them to get em on but after a while they stretch out & will be fine. https://www.mcmaster.com/cut-to-length-shipping-tubes/

Can cut the tubes with a knife or whatever but I use the cheap HF mini chop saw to cut the tubes. Cuts them pretty clean & square.

BTW, speaking of Mcmaster, I buy the tubes from Mcmaster too to store all kinds of stuff in. I don't use the expensive caps they sell for them though, I just use vinyl caps, also from Mcmaster. https://www.mcmaster.com/cut-to-length-shipping-tubes/

Thank you for the quick and complete response, I will likely use McMaster so I can get those tubes for storing them in, a great idea!

No problem. See my post again, I just edited it to give more details about the tubes. They're really inexpensive & come in real handy.

But if you order them for shipping, they ship em separate cause they come in long lengths so they might charge you shipping twice if ordering other items. If you do get charged twice, call them & they'll usually refund you on the shipping. They told me I wouldn't get charged twice for shipping but I did once.

I hear ya, it surprised me too. I don't use it a whole lot but I've had the thing for a while & it's been great. I'd buy me another one if it ever failed.

Thanks for the feedback! I’ve almost been thinking about getting an induction heater and a welder for my home garage to tackle any stuck bolts and studs to compliment a swirl map gas torch. Things I need to cut out I can use an angle grinder on. Just thoughts so far. Still haven’t bought anything.

I guess this is a tool. A tool for mowing my lawn. Honda HRN 216 walk behind.

QUESTION: I got this mower two weeks ago. It was the last one of this type in the store--the display model. So anyway, today I decided to squirt the dust off my new mower with the hose. When I squirted the clippings bag detergent bubbles appeared. A whole bunch. I squirted it for a minute or so and kept getting detergent bubbles. Like someone had used some sort of soap to wash it but didn't get all the soap out. Does this mean someone used it already and then washed it and returned it to the store? (Or could there be some manufacturing/shipping process that would leave soap in it?)

Used the Lang caliper tool today, and it worked great.

FB336 and 915CP.

I have always wanted a nicer set of feeler gauges and a set of long needle nose pliers.

A few recent additions:

From the FANTASTIC ASTRO buy one get one free special, the Astro 80SL light featuring a wall charger, a 2600 & 4500mAh batteries. The light is super bright at 800 lumens. What I really like about it besides the ability to quickly swap out batteries, is that it has a roller switch to dial up the brightness on the led panel, and a separate push button switch for the light on the top of the led panel.

Below the light, is the get free part of the deal, a second 4500mAh battery and an almost 10 inch long 1/4 drive nano ratchet. the head is really small, the area above the direction switch can be covered with a dime. :willy_nil crisp 72 tooth action, nice chrome and balance.

Next up, Hazet hyperfine 90 tooth ratchets in 3/8 and 1/4 trim. I have to say, I'm not impressed with them. The 3/8 version's balance makes it ideal for using it as a hammer but, it's head heavy. The direction switches don't appear to be metal, at least not steel. I don't want to scratch them in case I return them.

Lastly, a few bit rail sets from the Capri special last month. Metric hex, long torx, and standard length torx in 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2 drive on nice aluminum rails.

Not a typical tool relevant to GJ but it's still a tool to me that brings back memories.

We stopped by to visit my 94 yo Mom, Mother's day, found these down at the lake under water.
After cleaning I see initials "JTT" on them.
Who would waste their time initialing an $8 pair of needle nose pliers I thought...then I thought who would waste an hour cleaning them up! [emoji38][emoji23]

Hey, the last pair of crappy rusted pliers I cleaned up turned out to be a pair of Matco branded Knipex Cobra water pump pliers. Don't always know until you know. Haha The last pair of crappy pliers I ran over to the swap meet for, to do a quick job, turned out to be a pair of Japanese made Fuller T&G pliers.

Those are about $25 at our Rite-Aid. My wife wants you to give us your review after you've used it. We've always wondered if they're worth it.

Looks similar to my recent hauls at Direct Tools. Picked up a couple more attachments since I figured I better get them while I can. Also picked up the Ridgid 5" 18v random orbit this weekend on the mother's day sale. Living 15 minutes from the TTi company store might get me in trouble, they got some Milwaukee stuff in there thats not listed on the direct tools website. 20210428_121457.jpg
