I thought I would ask around and see if anyone has any ideas or suggestions and is there is obviously a lot of creative folks on here. I am renovating my front yard and shop area which is the front portion of my existing shop. i have an approx 4200 sq ft detached wood construction shop which included 650 sq ft of art studio which is my wife’s. In front of this portion is a small gas pump island I have used for 10 years. Not real nice but it has had many old gas pumps on it.

I have it stripped down and plans are to cover it or restore it, use some of the lights I have, island lights and two gas pumps, an air machine and other items.

I need to build something off of the roof line that comes over the gas pump island, which only sits 2 feet off of the building.

I recently tore out some old white picket fence and am using pavers and boulders in conjunction with this new look, which I want to flow from the home to the shop area in question.

I am not against removing the flag pole and even taking out the island and pulling it out a few more feet. My main issue as you can see is that the drive drops off so I only have a short distance or it will block the drive what which goes around the entire house and shop. I attached a few pics to give an idea of how it looks and the area in question that I want to build off of.

Any ideas are appreciated.

I want to come off of this section.

Excuse the mess, this is what I just tore out of the front, along with 4,000 sq ft of grass.

Dave,

If it were me, I move the pump island out. Move it out about 18 feet from the wall. Then attach a gable roof to your roof that goes out about 20ft supported by 2 posts at the end. Just like I've done with my garage. Then put a door in that wall.

Roger, thats what I would like to do, but this drive drops off at the end and I need it open enough to drive thru. If I brought it all the way out, then I would not be able to drive larger trailer under it. Also, with the snow load here I could never get away with that size and only two supports.

Yours is what actually started me thinking of how to dress it up, but 6-8 feet is my max and then its still causes some issues.

Dave,
How high is your trailer? I have a 9.5 ft clearance on mine.
My pitch is pretty steep. I don't think snow load would be an issue at all.

btw, did you get my PM?

Edit:
I just looked up roof pitch guidelines for snow country in North America and Canada. Minimum roof pitch is 6. Mine is 8. Your house looks like an 8 to me in the pictures. That would be a perfect match.

Also, how wide is that wall where your island is?
