A co worker of mine told me the other day that Kobalt tools actually makes Snap On tools. I don't believe this no further than I can throw a battleship. Is this true or no?

You are correct.

JH Williams, a Snap-On Subsidy, USED to make Kobalt tools. Kobalt of course does not have any manufacturing capabilities/etc. and does not and never has made Snap-On, or anything close.

Kobalt used to be made in the USA by Danaher after JH Williams, it is now made in Taiwan. Looking at the Williams Taiwan stuff, they (Williams Taiwan & Kobalt Taiwan) may be made in the same factory.

I've got a couple of older 1/4" ratchet sets one from Danaher era and the other from the JH Williams era. Both are really nice sets and I'm glad I bought them when I had the chance. I wish they were still as nice as the older Williams, but alas everything changes and we are stuck with what's there now...

The old Williams tools were outstanding. I loved their combo wrenches. Mac/Matco design and quality at a basic Craftsman price.

Yeah what he said!
And that older JH Williams made Kobalt stuff was pretty good stuff too. I'm very impressed with the few pieces I have. Wish I'd snagged up more of that older stuff before Lowes liquidated it around 2003/2004.

By the way the packaging and lables on that older Kobalt stuff was pretty explicit about who made those wrenches, sockets, ratchets, and extentions. Not sure why so many people who saw that seem to have misinterpreted it to thinking that Snap-On made them or that they were made for Snap-On??
