Problem is it will have a dirt floor (gravel) so what is the bess thing to build . It has to store 3 cars and one boat? I dont want to spend over 1000 bucks and I will do 100% of the labor

Unless your figure of $1000.00 is a typo, I don't think you have a snowballs chance of even coming close with something that size. I doubt the roof alone could be done for less than 2000...and you live in an area where building materials are quite expensive.

I'm not sure you could even do a soft-sided quonset for 2000.

Sorry.

Might not be to bad,

Find a local Saw mill for the wood.

Do a lean to style building,

So 10' in the front 8' in the rear, 4x4 treated posts, beam the posts with 2x8's and use 2x6's for the rafters. 1x4's to sheet the top, Rough cut 1x6 or 8's to sheet the walls

I think some of you guys have never tried to build on the Cheep.

What he wants could very well be possible.

I built a 12x16 shed with a wood floor and barn style roof in '03 and the materials alone cost $2300. Home Depot advertised one put up at your place for $2600, that same shed is now $5200. T1-11 is about $32/sheet, 20 sheets of it would be $640.

... but I doubt it would pass any code.
Let me correct myself. Im only needing space for 3 vehicles, (2 cars and a small boat. As far as codes ,This will be no more than a car cover made of wood and tin,,,,,,,,,Why would you have to worry about codes for a car cover? As far as those tents go,I wouldnt have one in my yard, All you need with one of those cheap lookin things is a clown to jump out wearing a big red nose and big flat tip shoes,LOL

You're in D.C.? And think you can get away with building something without permits or codes? Not gonna happen. Unless you have a lot of acreage AND nice neighbors, you're gonna run into a whole mess of hassle. $1000 won't even cover the permitting expenses.

Here in Austin, which is admittedly pretty draconian, ANYTHING over 200 sqft requires a permit. Fences under 6' are okay as long as they're within (or on) the property line. And there's setback limitations regardless; 'accessory' structures can be five feet from the property line, whereas permanent structures must be ten. How do I know all this? I recently had to move a 6'x8' garden shed four feet back from my property line, because my neighbor complained she didn't have enough room to bring a house (yes, a house) through the alley. So it really chapped her when I built a wood and metal fence (with 6x6 posts set in concrete in jackhammered post holes; another fun story) right on the property line. Fixed her wagon but good. She has a history of, uh, irrational thought processes, and this is not the first time she's ratted me out for something silly, so I don't feel the least remorse about wrecking her plans. Her place is an eyesore also; the fence was mostly to block the view of her mess.

The setback rules are fairly standard, because they're based on access for emergency personnel such as firemen. Before you start setting posts you better check into the local requirements. You may be able to get around most of them, but if even one neighbor squawks about it you'll be SOL.

Good Luck!

In my town anything over 100 sq ft with a roof, portable or not, needs to be permitted and inspected. If built on skids it can be 200 sq ft and still not be added to your property taxes.
I too thought those costco tents were **** until I had to have some temp cover for my boat that was kicked out of its heated storage. For the money that those things are great, Well made, large heavy wall tubing, all powder coated. tons of snaps and retainers, zippered ft flaps, tight form fitting, anyway a find product.. There are others trying to copy these that are very flimsy and are ****.
WE got farmers out here using them instead of out buildings they are so
inexpensive, one guy has 14 in a row.
And yes , I too would not put on in my ft yard.

Good luck with you project and I hope you can or someone has an answer to your question that allows you to meet your goal....H

Depending on you neighberhood in DC you may get away with it.
You will be as illegal as the original sin, but the Gov has more inportant things to worry about.

It's the neighbours you need to worry about, not the bylaw enforcement.
neighbors are afraid to upset me because they know I have a car in my shop that can make lots of noise but I show them respect by making very little noise. LOL there are two types of people you dont want to live beside, Those that mess with engines, and those that rehearse for playin in a rock band.

Yeah, but those same neighbors could raise holy he!! about the noise your car makes, if it pi$$es them off enough. All they have to do is call the cops about the noise, and you're in deep. Every place has SOME kind of noise ordinance, and if your engine is anything like the circle track car I heard once, it'll violate ANY noise ordinance: day, night, whatever. That thing was FREAKIN' loud at IDLE; I don't know how the guy can stand to drive it full blast!

Good Luck!

A 16'x24' wont have much room at all to park more than 1 car in it and some small stuff.
I figure 8 feet is wide enough for one car and 16 feet is deep enough so it wont stick out so 16/24 equals enough room to store 3 vehicles..why not so?

My one car garage is 15' x 23' (interior dimensions), and unless they're old beetles (about 13 1/2' long) on go-jacks, you can't fit more than one of anything in there.

Well, it depends. First of all, make sure you're considering the actual interior dimensions, considering the thickness of walls, inset of garage doors, etc. Then figure out how big your vehicles actually are, and how convenient you want access to be. Do you just want to pack them in like sardines for long term storage or do you want to be able to open vehicle doors, etc.
