Default Where are you located? Location in your profile - Please.

Hey guys and gals this is a great forum to share ideas and strut you stuff, maybe this is just a me thing but please take the time to put a location (generic area is fine) in your profile.
Sometimes while were discussing something the part of the country your located in makes a difference . Merry Christmas or happy holidays if you are one of the many other faiths.

MODERATOR EDIT: If you not sure how to add you're location to your profile, this should help you.

If you'd like to add a location to your profile, just move up the the black band and click on "User CP" On the next page, left side click on "Edit your Details" and under "Additional Information", you'll see "Location". Just enter your location and click "Save Changes"

This is a very good idea as it can help the poster asking things like - Can I find a builder near me ? and if you do not have a location how do you give an honest reply to help.

By adding a location you are only helping yourself further on the forum.

Edited Note: Made this topic a sticky and edited the title.

Yes, there is, I made the thread and sticky trying to get the new crop of members to get their location on there from the get go. Unfortunately, alot of them still don't do it but I believe more of them add it now as to opposed to before I made that sticky.

Maybe, it's an issue of not knowing how to do it ?

EDIT: I edited the OP to add directions on how to update your profile.

OMG.....so I am not the only one that thinks this should be required! About time. How many times do we have to waste our time asking "where do you live!". Something between 'Earth" and "Smithville". Ok.....I'm done....again.......

I didn't join this forum to tell the world where I lived. I joined because I thought the "garage minded" were common sense folk who cherished their liberty.

Seriously! How hard is to figure out where someone lives? Are you trying to save the NSA some steps?

So one day when you ask a question like - I need building permits or an electrical question that location would help please do not be offended if a reply is slow coming.

you have enough info in your profile to get the general idea but some folks have nothing and then they might ask " how much insulation do you think I should have in my garage"

Flyguy and Firewhirl, both of you have missed the purpose of this thread. Please put your location in your PROFILE so readers can see where you are without looking up this posting.

Most of my gained practical experience deals with things on the left coast, and when I see someone asking questions that do not pertain to my data base, I have no choice but to move on and hope others have the answers needed. Life on the eastern seaboard can be very different.

I have been asked given I post about it in the introductions (a lot) having a location listed in your profile. Some people have a sense of security so to clarify we do not ask for you to post a street location. All many ask for is a Town or City and State as this would be enough to keep many happy. Given the forum is so global a location when you ask about some thing can give you many answers and some would be different due to many parts of the world that we have members from partaking in this forum.

So again a polite reminder if you have not updated your location in your profile please do so as some time in the future it may help you when you ask about something here on the GJ.

The reason we ask for a location in your profile is simply that one answer from one part of the world may not suit your part of the world. We also look for locations to deal with spammers and for example if you say you are in the USA and you IP address shows Indonesia or India then we watch the profile for SPAM posts.
