I picked this up at the swap meet last weekend as I have never seen anything like this configuration. It has a cap on the end of the handle for filling and that is where the check ball/ pickup is so this thing is designed to be held like a pistol and when pulling the trigger the whole barrel moves back to dispense the oil. The main body is about 2.5" in dia and 10" long. Anyone know why this exhists?

Thanks

Does it have a female zerk (grease) fitting on the end, or threads like it might have had one? If so, many machines way back when (like my Bridgeport) used zerk fittings as oil ports in areas where a standard flip top lid oil cup wouldnt work, like on the side of a vertical surface. In this case, an "oil gun" was necessary to force oil through the zerk fitting into the machine.

It does have a female threaded end on the pipe. You may be on to something here. The size of the pump plunger would tell me this is a large volume low pressure unit. I had a lathe like that..
