Just finished phase one of a restoration of this old Craftsman 8" saw. Much thanks to Kirbot for the motor, just got it yesterday.

Very nice! Sometimes I wonder how expensive tools ( and I mean the quality and thoughness) like this would be today, if something like this were still made.

Very nice, good little saws, I've had a couple of them.

Don't forget the 1/2" to 5/8" adapter on the arbor.

Thanks, it was pretty easy - I dunked the top and a few other rusty bits in vinegar for a couple of days. The rust just washes off with a hose after that. Vinegar is not real fast but it's amazing stuff, but over night is usually enough - I just got busy with other stuff this time. Don't put plated pot metal in vinegar though, not good.

The paint is just Rustoleum Hammered Gold in a spray can. The rest is just a little Elbow Grease, but not too much :)

There are a couple of those on craigslist in my area, complete with the rusted table surface. I've been thinking about one of these. What did you do to remove the rust on the table surface?

I think I was posting that just as you were typing, but I used 9% pickling vinegar. The usual 5% vinegar works just as well. I put it in a heavy duty trash bag with the vinegar to cut down on fumes, but if you have a well-ventilated area you don't have to worry about that, as long as metal can soak in it for a while.
