I am looking to get rid of these soon. One is a Wilton the other a large Rock Island Vice. #1 Whitney hand punch Prices? Worth of each? The Wilton did get a quick sandblast. I plan on blasting both, but only after I get the glass beads for the cabinet.

After I picked up my 9300 at a swap for a rediculously cheap price. I started watching eBay and other places around the Internet to get an idea of value because I considered selling it. The auctions I had watched had them all sold at a little over a hundred - plus shipping, which of course adds to the cost.

I'm sure others will come in and give you a better valuation, that's just what I've noticed in the last month or so.

Collector's rule of thumb: $0.50/lb weight of vise and $1/lb weight of anvil. If someone is a frequent industrial auction or flea market buyer they could likely score those for pennies on the dollar in a few weeks of trying. Buyers on here pay a rather ridiculous amount IMHO for tools, especially vises so dont set your sights too high. Not to put yours down in the least, but 4-6" vises are the most common size of vise, and those are two of the most common brands. If it was much larger or smaller, then it would be worth significantly more due to their rarity. If you want to sell them quick (hopefully profit), price $25-50. If you want to risk them sitting a few weeks, price $50-100. If you think you can get it bc there are a ton of silly people in your area, price up to $150.

Regarding the punch, I have the same one that my father bought at auction for $2. Its been 2 years now, and I still havent found a use for it.

Hello Gentlemen,

I wondered if anyone could tell me something about my vice.

It seems its a USA brand and hope there is someone out there that has some info . ( age / model / etc etc. )
I bought it this week because i liked the size ( 65 KG ) and had a strange plateau that will only make the vice rotate if the clamps are released . ( never saw that before )

Thx in advance ,

Pieter ( from the Netherlands )

Pieter,

That's the first of that type of Rock Island I have seen and a pretty big one, too. Nice find. You can find some history on Rock Island here.

Here's an advertisement for it from 1920.

Thx a lot Bloo ,

That explains the "8" on the side ...and the converter KG to LBS is exact 63,5 KG 140 LBS
( I went out 30 mins ago to put the vice on a digital scale and 63,5 KG )

Strange that a vice from the USA made in the 1920's ( close to a 100 years old and still working great i must say ) is found in a farmers shed in a small town in the most northern region of the Netherlands :) ...where is almost nothing besides cow's hahaha.

Greetings,

Pieter

that is a great looking vise and even better to speculate on how it got all the way out there! I wonder if it was left over after one of the wars?

The Wilton will command 100+, on ebay, with a good coat of paint and nicely polished non-painted parts.

The Rock Island i'm not so sure about. Its the only brand of vise that i have yet to sell to date. I actually did buy one this weekend and i will be selling it soon but its a flea compared to the big brute you have sitting on your workbench. The sale price of mine would not reflect the value of yours at all.

The punch is nice but do you have any more dies to go with it? I've sold the smaller ones in the box with 4 different die sets for around 50.00 but without them, its a **** shoot. You need to find the guy that needs to punch nothing but 1/4" holes all day since the extra dies bought new are very expensive.

Really don't know ....i never seen one ...ever. So would be cool :)
I see a lot of benchvices becouse it's my hobby ( buy - sell tools ) ...The best vice around here in Europe is definetly a Heuer Front with removable clamps in the size 160mm / weight +/- 27KG drop forced steel ( unbreakable ).
Some other good vice brands here are Leinen / Gedore(FZA) / Hemklem / Gressel /

Wish i knew ....i also wonder what the period was when they were made.
The advertisement that BLOO posted was from 1920 ...

Maybe brought along in World war II ...Maybe a blacksmith ordered one ...but i asume that must have been too expensive .

Is it a well known brand in the USA ?

Greetings,

Pieter
