Another garage build thread. It wont be as glamorous or beautifully crafted like "The 12-Gauge Garage" or Red Leader's "Craftsmen Garage" (They are both very well crafted and inspiriting).

The garage (16'x17' with 8' high walls and 13' peak) as you can see from the pictures is cluttered with alot of junk, left over materials and tools. My main purpose/goal is to clean up the garage to free up some work space. Organization is something i try to aim for but it'll be hard with an on going construction business.

How i envision the layout of the garage to be is in the "U" shaped setup with shelves. Leaving the middle free space. Almost all of the shelves will be built be to very rough and raw except for maybe a few things. Salvaging all the wood and materials that's available.

Sorry for the poor images.

So far, there's been a lot of sorting and cleaning through things. We threw two vans full of garbage away!

Here are some of the shelves that were made with 2x3's, 2x4's and 3/4" plywood along the left side of the garage.

The right side of the garage is the work bench made of the same material.

Good job!! You've made a significant dent already! I'd definitely find a spot and hang those bikes though. If they're used a lot you could still make more room by hanging them vertically on the wall or better yet hang them from the ceiling if they're not ridden daily.

Also consider a rolling sheet goods/lumber cart that you can just roll around out of the way. It will allow you to kind of "double stack" your shelving, then just roll it out if you need to get to the shelves behind it.

You should probably take that Bud Light lime to the dump as well... ;-) Looks good. It's such a great feeling getting your garage back in order.

Excellent suggestion on the sheets! Everytime theres left overs from a project. It comes home because i dont wont to waste it.

I've consider making a pulley system on the rafters once the majority of the garage is done.

Haha, i usual drink imports or micro brews but i have a soft spot for cold cold Bud Light lime. Yes it does feel good to see this garage turn around.

Great job so far. I am in no way an expert but when I saw your first picture I could of swore it was my garage. Before the wife would let me take pictures we did two spring cleanings and a couple of truck loads to Goodwill. Will be following your thread to see your progress. Thanks

This is very close to what mine looked like when I started cleaning it out in 2007. Except that you can see some organization in this picture. Mine was worse.

Take it one step at a time.

My garage project started out innocently enough - get a few receptacles in, throw up some insulation, call it good.

Until I got on this forum.

You've been warned:D

ps - you've made great progress so far!

Dam I don't feel so bad now when I don't sweep the floor every day.

Thanks, this is as fancy it will get. Just enough so that i can reuse the space in the garage.

Now if we can get the office cleaned up,

Has anyone actually seen Jack's Before Photos? - I didn't see any in his thread... :headscrat

To Sriracha Me:

Its looking much more useable. Mine gets like the above photo, then I clean it but it only seems to last a month or so...

Jack? Jack? We KNOW you take a lot of pictures....you've GOT to have a Before picture. You think the board admires your garage now? Post it as honked up as a lot of ours are and then you'll see/read TRUE admiration!:)

Yup, and I've been in Jack's garage, albeit for only a minute or two a couple of times. I can attest that he uses it and gets it messy but it doesn't stay that way too long after the project is done. So....I find it hard to imagine a person with that tendency let it get totally a mess for awhile...unless of course he was applying those perfectionistic tendencies to other projects on the house or car or whatever. Perfectionism does lead to paralysis....at least that's the excuse I use for my OWN garage being as it is!

Yes, the major work is done. Just a few to many buckets to sort all the nails, screws, and etc to reduce the amount of space it'll take up.
