My Diversion 180 Welding Cart

Ok so it's another welding cart but hey I have to share my project with somebody. After seeing the crazy cart and other builds on the board I decided to build myself a cart for my new diversion. I pretty much took inspiration and ideas from other builds & just went at it.

really nice job! are the pvc pipes for rods for a stick welder?or are they just compartments for tips and such.


never mind,just went back and saw the tig torch

The pvc pipe has all the different aluminum rod. I was going to build in a drawer as I had seen other carts with them & they looked pretty cool. But in the end I opted to just use a truck drawer box I got at a yard sale. It works and it fit in just right. I was originaly going to put a motorcycle grip on the tube going up. I just wanted a sturdy handle to move it around. But I had the skull & I just couldn't help myself.

How do you like the Diversion 180? Easy to setup and weld? I have done a little TIG welding and would love to get a tig, saw this machine on Extreme 4x4 and am hooked

Sweet! I was planning on leaving mine under the bench but now I want it to be mobile after seeing your cart. Very nice. Which filler rods are you stocking in your holders?? :beer:

Cap the ends of the square tubing and I would say that is the best looking welding cart I have ever seen...

Without it... sorry, lad. Tied for first.

I like them. I have yet to use mine though, I wanted to build the cart first. One of my coworkers let me borrow his a couple of times & liked it so I made the leap. I almost got the syncroweave 200 but it would have been overkill for me. (not to mention the size) So I went with the Diversion. Some people like to put these machines down but I like the simplicity of them. They do everything I need. Besides I have a millermatic 210 with a 3035 spool gun so any thicker aluminum comes up that will cover it. If you need a good basic machine give it a try. I like em. Its a lot of fun.

I keep my different size aluminum rod in them.

I have a Diversion 165 - which is pretty similar to the 180 but lacks a digital readout and I think the 180 has capability of running on 110 volt power.

I learned to Tig with it, and have done quite a bit of hobby welding with it.

At one point I thought about upgrading to the Dynasty 200, so I went to the weld shop and used one for about 3 hours. The Dynasty has a ton more controls than the Diversion, but on the stuff I was doing (1/8 inch aluminum sheet) it didn't seem to weld any different or better. The only difference I could find was that the Dynasty seemed to have a little crisper start than the Diversion - so you could get away with a little more standoff and it would still start.

They told me the the fixed settings on the Diversion are the same as the defaults on the Dynasty - that's why they weld the same. Of course you're stuck with those settings on the Diversion and the Dynasty can adjust all kinds of parameters.

As far as duty cycle goes - I've welded almost continuously on the diversion for 4 hours straight at about 2/3 on the current dial and it never shut off on me.

I would recommend one.

had that DIVERSION 180 be avaliable when i was buying. that is what i would have (if it in fact does use120V).

the reason i bought my 200DX is because it can use 120V. and it can use crappy 120V, like in my garage.

the 200Dx has so many settings, its almost mind boggling. its really pro stuff. i don't use much of any of that. then again. i haven't used the machine itself in years.

It does use 120. you just change the plug. one of the reasons I liked the idea of the diversion was the fact that it was simple to use. i know everybody says you need to adjust this or that. But for the stuff I do simple is good.
