I went down to help my neighbor move some stuff in his shipping container (he's 84 now and real sharp but a little rickety). Mostly a bunch of **** in there from his mom's estate. He said "if you see anything you want, take it". I spied this old bandsaw on the floor and he gave it to me.

Anybody know the vintage of this thing? I weighed it. It weighs 145 lbs. Heres a few more shots. I plan to restore it.

It looks pretty good inside. The wheels spin freely and the "tires" look pretty good.

The tilt for the table is free and working as is the blade tensioner.

It is only missing a couple things:

One of these gizmos:

And the little plate that goes here. This I could make.

A somewhat period correct switch would be nice.

Some of the castings have markings like this. Is this the actual weight?

It has no stand or motor. I'm assuming the motor would be mounted down on the stand somewhere. Any idea of what h/p I would need? I can control the rpm with the sheaves.

Just for fun. A comparo with my little Taiwan Delta pos. I got it years ago for building R/C planes. It's fine for balsa wood but that's about it. Free to anyone that wants it.

I got the mail for the old boy on my way back from town and he said there is an old table saw buried in there. Also a joiner. Going down tomorrow and have a look. I'm excited:D!!!

is that a 14" bandsaw? I have one similar to that, but it has the stand and everything... Pictures are on my other computer, so I can post tomorrow....

Get onto OWWW.org and check out the machines there. Similar to yours and many are restored. it makes a guy start to drool.....

nice find!

Thanks bimmer. I'd really like to see those pics. From where the blade should be to the back measures 13.5". Not sure what that makes it.

I'll have to check out OWWW but it scares me. GJ has already ruined my life. In a GOOD way though:D

I followed old delta stuff for a while. The motor should be 1725 rpm, and you shouldn't need more than a 1/2 hp. The motor that would match that machine are sometimes hard to find( the people wore them out and are still using them) I think I have a motor that would work and it would be from the same era. Where is Western Washington Are you?

There is a also a guy in town here who has other delta period stuff.

If it is a 14" saw the wheels will be close to 14" in diameter.

It appears this is a 14" saw. Very nice workhorse of all bandsaws. If you are ever lucky enough to find a 10" saw of that vintage you would be advised to get it as well.

It's the common Delta 14" bandsaw, and it's a great machine. The lbs26 was a casing number for the body of the saw, no relation to the saws weight.

I would look at owwm.org, buy some new bearings, squat so e fresh paint and put it to work.

Nice find on the Delta 14" wood cutting bandsaw. I'd estimate this is a 1950's to early 60's vintage. I have a few of these machines I've completely restored and they are wonderful to use. The saw came standard with a 1/3HP 1725 rpm motor with 2-3/4" motor pulley. The pulley on the driven shaft should be 8" diameter.

A good blasting/cleaning and paint job will have this saw looking as good as new. The bearings should be changed out as I'm sure the grease is solidified by now. They most likely will have the extended inner race bearings (Consolidated). The upper wheel use smaller bearings than the lower wheel. These can be purchased through Accurate Bearing.

Vintagemachinery.org is a great place to research these machines. You can still order parts from www.dewaltservicenet.com.

Hey marslawn, I'm across the pond and north in Arlington. I might be interested in that motor.

here's the pictures of the bandsaw that I bought awhile ago...

This one should be fairly similar to yours... however, this one has a special gear box on it that is OEM to delta. it is the wood and metal cutting bandsaw. The gear box adds a much slower set of speeds that enable it to run a metal cutting blade.

Mine also has the cast iron base--also known as the art-deco base by some people.

For what it is worth, mine is the model # 28-380.

I plan to restore/refurbish mine once my new garage is finished.

Vintage machinery and OWWM are both great sites and I have picked up a lot from the people there.

I just recently picked up a Powermatic PM143 BS off Seattle Craigslist for $120 and went looking for advice. I'll give a thumbs up to Accurate bearing near Chicago. They had the upper wheel bearings I needed for less than $5 each and I had them in three days. In case you need new bearing.

Great saw.

BTW, I'm just down the road from you.

Tinbender,

Great score.

I restored a 14" Delta bandsaw. Mine was bought in 1936 by my Godfathers's dad. It was given to me after sitting on the farm all it's life. My restoraton included upgrading a number of parts from Iturra Design. They are located in jacksonville FL. They don't have a web site. I don't have the number with me at the moment. If you call them buy their catalog. It has a number of very good articles in the catalog to help you restore the bandsaw.

I wrote about the restore here.

I also did the rust removal with a non toxic remover. Evaporust.

I'm happy to give you any other details you need.

Best,

Leonard

Any chance you could fix the links in the first post? I just dug one of these saws out of a storage room I have here at work. It was something my grandfather bought new and they used on the shop floor until the late 80's early 90's. Recently I started shopping around for a bandsaw and remembered I had this one stashed away. I plan on doing a quick restore and putting it back to use in my home workshop.

I wiped the grime off the upper and lower cover just to see how bad it was. My grandfather painted all the shop equipment light green years ago.

It would have been nice if the pictures were still up, this thread is not that old.
Why not just host pictures here, Is there a limit on the photobucket account, a lot of people delete there photo bucket pictures.
I don't seem to have a limit ay photo bucket, but then again, it's an older account.
Maybe the newer accounts are different.
