Title sums it up, I am looking for a set of Tin Snips that will last and cut for a LONG time. My main usage will be duct work and light gauge sheet metal work.

Thanks in advance-

For something like this, after using the Weiss snips and having them go dull, I bought Craftsman so that when they go dull they will swap them for new...forever.

I *just* bought both and as a plus they are made in the USA. Chrome moly blades seem pretty stout to me, the aviation snips were so sharp I could cut regular paper with them.

For both value and function, I think my Craftsmans are actually the best I've ever owned. I clean the edge up with an India stone every once in a while and they work flawlessly.

Still made in the USA, and they don't even flinch at cutting 16ga 304 stainless.

wiss use to be the best, but there are a lot of people making them out there now.
one thing I can tell you if cut wire with them they won't be worth a ****, no matter what brand you buy.

16 ga 304 stainless wow.......I'd like to see that, must be a awful small piece.

It is pretty small - only about 1½" or so in width. It's actually bands that they cut to make pipe holddowns out of (ends up in the scrapyard by the ton).

I use it quite a bit for various projects, and I've been cutting a bunch of 4" coupons out of it for my daughter to weld on.

I don't use the Weiss ones I pictured, just some like them. I've cut wire lath, mesh lath and sheet metal with mine for 40 years and never sharpened them or replaced the blades. And that's with professional use, so I'd say that's hard enough.

If I go out to the truck today, I'll look and see what brand they are. I bought them at the materials yard 40 years ago; they probably aren't made anymore. the point is that they are AL handles and larger than most snips for leverage.

If you close snips, and the very tips don't come together, don't buy them.

I was told this by an old Tinner years ago.
