Looking for a used 1/4" US made air ratchet, seems Snap-On is basically the only game in town.

Any big differences between the FAR25 and FAR2500? I'm surfing eBay.

Also, wanted to say, want something QUIET, does this put the Snap-On out of the picture? I read Aircat is nice and quiet but they are Taiwan, would prefer not to do that if I don't have to.

Try taking a look at the flat head IR titanium as well. There are times the smaller head will let you get into places the others will not reach.

You must be in the same place as me pipsters, looking for new air tools! Snap-on specs say the FAR25 has 25ftlbs. and the FAR2500 has 35ftlbs. IIRC. A guy has a brand new far25 for sale on cl near me for $125, I'm thinking about offering him $80.

I believe the 2500 might be an updated 25, but I'm not 100% sure

I have the far25 and use it all the time; I do not have any experience with the far2500. I wouldn't exactly call the far25 quiet; I use ear plugs when using all my air tools.... the 2500 is Sound Pressure Level, dBa 85.5 and the 25A is Sound Pressure Level, dBa 88; the Aircat AIRCAT® 1/4" Ratchet Single Pawl Mechanism Model #ACR800 is 82-86 dBa (decibels), Ingersoll Rand 1/4" ratchet are at 88., Chicago Pneumatic is 81-90 and depending on which model you get... so even a "quiet" model sounds like it has a similar sound rating and everyone seems to be in a close sound rating range. Seeing how everything is in close range; performance and durability is probably more of a concern.. I have been very happy with my far25A; continually, amazed with the speed it runs and the torque... although, most modern designs seem to have similar specs these days. I had a older blupoint 1/4" ratchet and the rpm was very slow compared to the far25a; make sure you get one that a fast rpm so your not waiting around for the tools to do its job! :)

Sound ratings by brand:

SO: 85.5, 88 dBa
IR: 81, 88.dBa
CP: 82, 85, 87, 90.4 dBa
AC: 82-86 dBa

RPM ratings by brand:

SO:225, 250
IR:250, 300
CP: 200, 220, 250, 270
AC: 230

Looks like the flagship models from CP and IR are the winners here but I don't know if 50 to 30 rpm is a deal breaking difference.... I think the older designs were waaayyy slower; I'm sure any of these modern ratchets would be fine. 300rpm does sound impressive however! :) Good luck with your search for a good air ratchet; i'm sure you would be happy with any of the flagship models! :)

They will soon be available in green, orange, red and the metalflake colors that the special edition MG725's came in (Red, Blue and Purple) as well as clear coat aluminum. They were shown at the recent show in Orlando.

The main body is the part in color.

Dang....and here I just bought the traditional aluminum one off eBay....ah well. If I want it to be orange or green bad enough I suppose I could always paint it!

That is one bright green ratchet though!! :shocking:
