This past weekend I stopped by a barn sale sponsored by the local Humane Society to check things out. On a back table was a crusty old steel box covered with dust, dirt and the typical bird ****. What caught my eye was the “Snap-On” name on the box. Upon opening the box, I found it to be an old set of 3/4” drive sockets.

A Wright ratchet, near-new Craftsman breaker bar, Proto universal, several extensions and adapters, and 29 sockets. Some of the sockets are in pretty good condition, but most are a little rusty or tarnished and/or missing some degree of chrome. Just about the entire range of manufacturers are represented in the set with Wright and Cornwell taking the lead, but there are Bonney, Armstrong, Proto, Williams, Plomb, Craftsman, S-K, Snap-On, and New Britain as well. There is some duplication in size and point count, but most are 12 point with sizes ranging from 3/4” to 2-3/8”.

Also, included was an extensive supply of mouse-gnawed cherry pits.
I already have a set of 3/4” drive sockets so didn’t really need this one, but I offered, and they accepted, $100. Now the slow clean-up process begins!
