Is it really that good of a deal? Or is it that Craftsman Pro presses are just overpriced to begin with? I'd like to get one...

I ordered one for pickup, received the confirmation pickup email, then got a phone call from the store manager saying they would not honor the price. He said " I guess you knew something was up with the price..." as if I shouldn't have ordered. I am completely finished with Sears.

Well, the computer shows none in stock in Shannon and Southlake malls in south atlanta, but in stock at Stonecrest on the east side.

These are nice drill presses with good fit and finish, and the 17 inch is a nice plus over the usual 15 inch.

It still shows on the web with the link given in the first post, apparently legit. Sounds like a ba$tard store manager in post #5 above.

Hmmm... Three closest stores are out of stock but next two still show as available. Would hate to drive that far only to be turned away, though... But at that price...

If you buy it online for pick-up, would they have a choice?

Really. Ask the dingbat who wouldn't honor the how much he makes per hour. Then go ask someone who makes more than he does. Keep foing that until they honor the price.

or just buy a delta and be done with it. Screw Sears.

Link is dead. I'm standing in sears now and they pulled the sale price off the press. In store computer shows $479. It's not even on the website anymore. Damnit.

argh, sorry to hear, I found this was on a bargain forum with 17 pages of discussions, I think we are too late.
And I was about to arrange some logistics on how to get it home too.

No sweat, I should hae bought it earlier. What stinks is the guy said they would have had to give it to me for that price - their policy. When I asked what the hell was up with all these pricing issues, he shook his head and metioned that he knew about them but wasn't sure what was going on. This is beginning to sound like a marketing scheme to me, not just some fool behing the db keyboard changing prices by accident.

Check the website yourself as I'm on a blackberry that has been know to give me false results. The in store web computer doesn't list it though.

Still here in sears wondering around waiting for the wife...hoping the press will come back online...

just go to sears.com main page and enter 17 drill press in the search. It still comes up at 179.99. My local store(s) didn't have any and they gave me a hard time about the price. I pulled the tag right of their shelf and showed them, they honored it, I ordered it and now it's back ordered. The sales people said it should be in by November 1 or 2. For that price I can wait. They would not sell me their display model.

I just tried to search their web site and the only drill press it found for $179.99 is a 12" model on sale.

My local Sears showed it in stock and I got an order in online. It says the order is pending e-mail confirmation. We shall see what happens. I made pdf files of my order details in case I need documentation.

The clerk typed in the part number and it did not show the sale price,he told Tommy he didnt understand because he sold one yesterday,Tommy told him he knew that it was his friend that bought it.The clerk called his manager over and it explained what was going on and the manager said it was a mistake on price and told the clerk to remove the sign. Tommy told him that he was about to get very upset. the manager then honered the sale price , It will be in next week

just go to sears.com main page and enter 17 drill press in the search.

Searching for "17 drill press" only brings up a 17 piece set of drills for me. And going to their page of drill presses only shows the 10", 12", 15", and 20" Craftsmans... Seems like they may have discontinued the model and cleared them out quick. Sorry I missed it.

I went down to the local Sears here. There was a couple picking up the very last drill press, which they had purchased online earlier in the day. The manager told me he could order me one at that price three different times, then not even two minutes later he declined and said he couldn't do it. I tried talking to him, and he wouldn't budge. Figures....

Sears *****. They screw up, and I'm sure a lot of people went to get the drill press at the advertised price, and then got treated as if they were trying to take advantage. Sears no longer cares about the customer. It takes smart people to work retail and properly serve the customer, especialy when selling a mechanical device or tool, and smart people demand smart money. Sears doesnt pay well, so they get the bottom of the bucket sales clerks. Once again, they ****.

BMWPower, I had the same experience as you tonight. Called six stores, when I found one that had it, I just bolted there. When I arrived though, the price was $479. On the site now, it doesn't even come up when searching on product number: 00922901000.

I would've bought two and put one on Craigslist.

Damn

Damn, I was at my local Sears picking up a torx bit today at 11:30 and never even thought about looking at a drill press. I would have grabbed one in a heart beat for that price!

Got that same order this morning.

Fortunately for me, I picked it up yesterday.

After I read this post, I went online and ordered it right away. It was 5 before I got to the store, and I hadn't received my confirmation email yet, so I was feeling nervous. I go to merchandise pickup, and it was a little bit of a fiasco. I'm waiting for a manager, waiting for help, and although everyone was pretty courteous, I was beginning to sweat it a bit.

Next thing I know, a dude from tools walks out and says, "Well we all thought it was a screw up this morning, but I guess it's not. You've got the last one in stock, so let me just ring you up. Your online order was cancelled so you're ok.

I go inside, pay up, and while I was doing that my fiancee was putting the drill press in the car. Damn that's awesome.

I just can't believe they are having this many "pricing mistakes". It seems like if that were the case someone would have been fired by now. Sure seems fishy to me.

First I get the "I am sorry your order is cancelled" e-mail and then later this morning I got another e-mail saying my drill press is ready to pick up. I really can't go get it until Monday. I wonder if it will be there.

People on slickdeals.net have reported receiving both the cancellation email, then the ready for pick up email. They went to pick it up, and it was there.

I'm glad I bought mine yesterday. I wonder if they "delay" the delivery for some really long time so I'll request a refund. Good thing the receipt represents the contract.

Call corporate and complain - I'd tear someone a new exit door for a comment like that - it's not my job to make sure prices are accurate, or pass over a deal because someone is a screw-up, and the insinuation that you're doing something dishonest or wrong is completely inappropriate - were it my company, I'd be replacing an employee who made a comment like that.

I called the Sears online center that afternoon and before I could tell them why I was calling they informed me that their computers were down and they couldn't look up orders or products. They suggested I call back in 3-4 hours. I figured without being able to verfy the order I couldn't make progress resolving the issue and gave up. This was the last contact I'll have with Sears. There are too many good alternatives.
