Finally got a chance to take some pics of my new box

Well the box is not new, just new to me, but the riser was delivered new about 3 weeks ago. I have the box well stocked, but still room to grow. I'm gonna need it too, concidering that I have just about zero metric stuff yet (mostly work on new cars, have some cheap husky metric sockets).

First drawer is sockets, snap on impact driver set, blue point flip socket set, and a cman set of rounded bolt/nut removers.

Next is my 3/8 and 1/2 drawer (some stuff from this category is on the riser bacl)

Next is 1/4 drive tools (also, some stuff from here is on the riser)

And finnaly, chisels, picks, awls, punches, a bushing driver set, and panel removal tools.

Next drawer is for screwdrivers (some in the riser)

Then pry bars and torque wrenches

Next drawer is bariouse ait rools, mostly die grinders.

Then roloc abrasives, a national detroit D/A, and Viking "mudlsinger"

Then all SAW wrenches (flank drive plus set, flare nut in both double end, and combo flare/open end, and 3 different Gearwrench sets) and a carb tuning set.

The the next drawer is a Cman Pro sae wrenh set, set of Snap On adjutables, Snap On metric T/L hex, Mac T/L sae hex, and various others.

Final drawer is all pliers and cutters.

Next drawer is all drilling and flaring.

Next is for hammers and dollys (some from this category is in the riser)

Then power tools, mainly frinders and sanders.

And finnaly Impacts (the IR gun is a 2131a), Air hammer, and 2 air files, one junk, and one is a Hutchins 2000.

There are other drawers, like my very un-impressive vice grip collection, and 2 drawers with measuring and layout, and then abrasives, both a bit too messy to share.

The riser is built very well, it was really heavy. Its also keyed to the same key as my box. They have an even nicer version out now too, but its double the price, so I went with the lower end. Saw the new version on a box on the snap on truck last week, its REALLY nice (read: also REALLY expensive)

Nice box! One of the tech's I worked with had that exact box ... you won't believe how many tools you can cram in there! The riser looks nice as well. I have never seen one with the closer on it though. Thats really cool!

Wow! Look at all that room... your tools look lost in there... :bounce:

I've been dreaming of something similar... I have more tools (although few are SO) stuffed into a smaller Craftsman combo... everything crammed side-to-side and layered in some drawers (misc auto-tool drs)...

I love the riser... with light... would be a perfect spot for the lap-top... with maybe a service-manual cabinet above...

If you don't mind saying, how much did the box and riser run ya?

When I saw it on the truck, I was kind of sorry I didnt get the new one. Its much nicer than the one I have, but almost double the price. The more I thought about it, the more I am glad I got the one I did. The new one is a lot of money.

I actually paid less for the box than the riser!

I got the box used on craigslist (with the stainless top) for $1300.

The riser I got new, they run $1600, my snap on guy gave me 10% off, so I paid $1440.

The price is the killer. I like the new riser, but not enough to shell out that much dough for it. Im trying to decide whether i want a matching top chest or a riser. Im leaning towards the top chest....and after that lockers for both sides. :bounce:

What made you get a riser instead of waiting for a top chest to show up?

I want the work surface. I'd rather add a side chest if I need more space. I will never be working on new cars for a living (I work on 50's american stuff), so the need for lots of specialty tools and test equipment is non-existant. I mean I'm prepared to change out an alternator or a starter on a new car (well, not as well as I should be, need more metric stuff), but I dont needs tons of space for modern engine and diagnostic stuff.

I still have space in the box, and since I'm mainly doing restoration work, and light mechanical work on very simple old stuff, I dont ever expect the need for all of the space from a top chest.

So the riser was the perfect setup for me to have a toolbox and workbench all in one with lights, storage on the backboard etc. I dont want to go higher (needing a step still to get to the very top of the top box? no way), I'd rather do woder with drawers if needed in the future.

Nice! You're going to love it. The stainless steel top and riser are very nice, that's what I hope to add to my krl1003 some day. I'm with you on not wanting a top chest. If I need more room, I'll be buying a side locker or maybe 2. The areas where I have lost space in my toolbox right now are with the specialty tools. I could fit many more hand-tools in my box if I could move those to a locker.

Awsome dude, I'm also eyeing the locker for mine as well. I'd love a riser, it's nice to dream for the moment. Still trying to get over the price of the box myself LOL.
Hey, I noticed you still have the SS top on the box and it looks like the riser just sits on top of that. How is the riser secured to the box? otherwise someone could just lift it up get inside. Also, what are you doing for a cover? My cover would no longer fit with that set up.

The riser is really designed to work with the stainless top (or wood top, but I wouldnt want that). I did see a box on ebay with just the rubber pad and a riser. Snap On sells it assuming you will be securing it to a stainless top. My Snap On guy asked of my box had a stainless top, and told me it was necessary for the riser to mount properly. They supply you with 4 sheet metal screws to mount the riser, via a lip on the lower inner edge. You could attach it to the top of the box, and just have the rubber mat, but If my box didnt have a stainless top, I would have added that first, before the riser.

I do have a cover that came with my used box, and of course it wont fit (posted in the classifieds section). They do make a cover that works with a riser, but its over $300, and for now I'll just pull a tarp over it when im spraying primer.

You dont have much of a choice. I dont know about the newest style, but without it being screwed down to the top, the one I have doesnt have enough structural integrity at the sides to work. It wont fall apart, but the door may not operate smoothly, and it probably wont lock correctly.

Id use 3m double sided tape and hope it works before drilling holes in it. Thats one reason i rather have a top chest, i dont have to drill holes.
