...and cut/tinned, and soldered wires to four pins on each of 22 switches to control a relay system that will control the electronics for their demo/display area of the new shop.

Switches are:

Source
Amps
8 Front channels
4 Rear channels
10 Subwoofer channels

The only part anyone will ever see.

I left to meet the kids as the owner started wiring the relays. 16 front, 8 rear, and 10 for woofers.

240, I'll get the manufacturer info for you. These have LEDs (you can probably see the halo in the center of the switches) and were ordered to be 12V ready - means the LED resistor is built in. They're $22 each.

illmatyk, that's the shop's workshop for the next couple of weeks or so. They move to the new shop in November and the new shop is HUGE. Four bays for vehicles and each bay is large enough to fit a tour bus.

22 bucks a pop isn't bad. They would look killer as power switches/power indicators for some of my diy home audio **** I build from time to time.

Went back tonight to help get the tower wiring finished.

Here's the switch panel nearly at home in the control center. Left it hanging out until everything inside is wired and tested.

Switches with power applied and Will going through them while Micah checks continuity. Everything checked out 100%. :D In this shot you can also see where the iPad will sit as well as the remote control for the Sony head unit that will go inside the tower.

After getting a good way through the relay wiring I told Micah he should really put some smoked acrylic on the back of the tower to show how involved (simple) tower is. Most people will see the iPad and remote and think the iPad is doing all the work - which is hardly the case.

There's still a crapload of stuff to wire in. :lol_hitti

Forgot a current shot of it.

Switch panel in place. This will give you a better idea of what it will look like when complete. Just need to place the iPad to round out the controls.

Clean job, man. I used to do mobile security when I was in high school and college. I still do but mostly for friends, pro-bono work. Made good money on the side but the job industry is pretty risky. Seems like your company is doing well.

Yeah, even in the down economy, business has grown for these guys. Makes me wish it was my company. :lol_hitti I went in last year for a PAC TR7 and saw they carried Hertz. Listened to them and ended up getting Hertz 6 1/2s for the wife's F250. I later went back and picked up a couple of Hertz 8s and made an enclosure to go under the rear seat. (Used to do this in the early 90's) Owner was impressed with it. I've been going in to help knock out things that need to be built for the new shop. I figured this thing was a good piece to share.

They deal with Audison, Hertz, Focal, JL, and Dynaudio. Haven't seen much Dynaudio or Image Dynamics stuff lately.

Switch info: used CH switches - not AH. Links to both.

Very neat. Have you considered using industrial control system parts for this kind of work? Look at Wago or Wiedmuller for "DIN rail mounted" "terminal blocks" and "relays".

Part of the point behind it was to use the same automotive parts that get used in customer vehicles. The terminal blocks were re-used from a police vehicle install.

Any finished pics?

Not yet. It's at the new shop and all of the wiring on the "other" side of the terminal blocks is hooked up and ran through the floor. Since the floor is concrete a 3" pvc pipe was set in place when the concrete was poured. That pipe is used route all of the speaker and power cables to the switching unit. Move in date for the new shop is the 1st of December so things are hectic right now.

This weekend I went over with the F250 and moved all of their MDF sheet as well as a bunch of other stuff. I'm thinking the showroom should be up and running by the 1st.

I'm busy working on a 2nd project for them and have to deliver it on the 1st. Time is tickin'. :shocking:

Here's one I snapped when I delivered the mailbox I made for them. Not sure why the Frog tape is on it, but didn't bother to ask, either.

If you look in the background near the center of the picture you'll see a 3" PVC pipe coming up out of the floor. That pipe is ran under the floor (it's set in concrete) and to the control tower. All cabling is ran through that pipe.

That is a beautiful and simple demo room done how it should be and nice work on the display! I worked in car audio for 10 or so years and have been a hobbiest for even longer. I built some big systems but unfortunately in our little area nobody had the big $$ to play with so what I've done is limited. I'd love to play with some fiberglass in my own vehicle and may do so soon as I have almost accumulated enough components to make it worthwhile.

I know this is an old post, but you had a pic up a while back showing the relays and wiring. Can you throw that up again? We are trying to wire up a much simpler sound board and your work is definitely inspiring!! Also, what gauge wire do you recommend coming off of the relays? Thanks a bunch.
