3/8" air impact, whats a good one for a good price

Besides buying a high dollar SO or Matco etc... Looking for a good 3/8" impact from another manufacture. Ive seen some for sale at Lowes, Home Depot & sears. Im not looking for HF prices but Ill pay for a good deal on one. I bought a HF one when they were on sale for $10 but they have no balls at all. Ill give the HF to my son as his first air tool for his lil bike projects.

Have you tried looking on your local craigslist? I found a used SO green MG325 for $150. It's about a year old says my Snappy dealer, but looks brand new underneath the vinyl boot. Super light (for what it is) and more than enough power. I find myself reaching for it before my MG725.

Something to consider.

I have a Napa branded one at work, a little older model and don't remember the part number but it is a pretty good little critter. It's not as powerful as my Snappy but it gets the job done.

Are you sure? That thing looks WAY bigger than a 2115. That looks like a 1/2" gun.

Yeah I'm sure. I believe that IS the picture of the 1/2 model. The real 3/8" model looks a little different. I believe NT just used the 1/2" drive model for the picture.
Go to the northern tool link I posted above and watch the video. I compared it to the IR in store and they where close in size and weight, with the Klutch being just a tad longer, approx 5/8" taller and just a little heaver.

You're right. In the video, it does look very similar in size to the 2115. I hate it when websites do that with pictures. For $70, if it performs well and holds up over time, I'm sure it's a much better deal than my $250 2115qtimax, ignoring the quiet part. Especially for the average hobbyist. I just LOVE my IR impact guns though, I'm sold for life.

Save up for an IR... I have a 2135QTiMax, 2115QTiMax (used the most), and and recently got a 216B (butterfly impact). All well worth the money.

a guy that i work with bought a Kobalt probably a year or more ago. it is a metal body one he uses it daily, it takes off lugnuts etc. I think it was only 50-75 dollars. lowes.com is down right now or I would try to search for it.

I have and use the snap on and IR, they are both good. I think the snap on has a little more break away/reverse TQ IMO in the real world.

I bought that one a while back, when I needed one while away from home. $49.95 and it works pretty good. I haven't used it much, but it knocked the lugs off my son's car. It's also very quiet.

I have an IR 2112 too,about 6 years old and still works.Just replaced the anvil on Friday since it is a common wear item.With the IRs,inspect the anvil and replace if needed.Chrome sockets wear out the anvils quicker including chrome attachments.

One of the guys I work with just bought a Husky (black composite housing) 3/8" drive and it's a badass little gun - especially for $50 clams. I don't know who the OEM on it is, but in our "scientific" testing it has been equal to or better than the IR's most of us have.

The guy hasnt emailed me back. Maybe that's a good sign. So the HF earthquake is good a few say? I have that 20% off coupon from HF. Ill have to use it & try it out. Anyone done a test with it by torturing down something and seeing how much torque it can free? Oh another thing is weight. How heavy is the earthquake compared to others. Hope it doesn't weigh like a 1/2" impact.

I saw the husky for sale at lowes or hd. It said it hef around 100#s of torque & for $50 and it is light. I forgot about that one.

The 3/8 Earthquake for sale now is a slightly newer/different model than mine. It's said to weigh 3/5lbs.

I'd say mine weighs about that.

While that is a pretty reasonable claim in my own experience, where exactly will you buy that earthquake at? Not at harbor freight.

I mentioned it in another thread, but we may not know about this other one until around 2014, quite some time from now. It'll take atleast that long before positive reliability reviews can come out.

If they **** out tomorrow, well then we will know they are no good. If they keep chugging along "just fine" we will need to see if they can make it past 2 years. For me, I would be ok with paying for a replacement after 2 years if I was satisfied with everything else about them (power weight ergo). Others will have a different period of time before being satisfied with PAYING for a replacement.

Perfectly happy with my ti-maxs, but may buy one of those just out of curiosity.

If you replace the $10 split ring and oring you will have longer anvil life. Groove seems to wear only after the oring has fell out, allowing the split ring to wobble around and widen the groove.

I used my Chicago Pneumatic CP724H for 10 years professionally with no problems whatsoever. Its not the most powerful impact out there but a real pleasure to use and you can get them brand new for $99.00 on sale, the usual price is $130.00 or so.

Well Lowe's & harbor freight are out of the 3/8" impacts. Home depot may have one but the husky is rated a little low on the torque output compared to others. HF does have a cheap looking impact but it has no balls. I'll probably just by the husky and out it to a test and see what kind of power it has or doesn't have. Anyone have the IR 215 ? I know its around $100 but is it worth it?

I have one, can't say if it is worth it for you or not. Works pretty good on the average rusted 15/16" nut/bolts I encounter, and occasionally use it with a 1" socket on a puller when the 1/2" gun won't fit.

Typical light car lugnuts? Pfft. Too easy.

We won't know for maybe a year or more what the quality is like with the new EarthQuake air tools from HF, but all the initial reports I've seen, and my own experience with the 3/8 impacting ratchet, a very decent line of tools has been improved.

I have the IR 212 and a HF Earthquake. I would say the Earthquake is not as strong but only slightly less. There are times both will not remove stuck lugnuts. Both very good guns.IR $130 earthquake about $70
