Pictures of my 20X40 Hot Rod Condo Garage (updated 11/28)

I bought this 20X40 earlier this year. It was already insulated, tinned out. It's a small complex consisting of two structures. One has 4 units and the building I am in has three units. Our dues are $300yr this includes property insurance, mowing, and snow removal, and a general maintenance fund.

I finished the firewall, prepped the floor with densifier, and then three coats of clear waterbased sealer.

The heater came with, but I had to hang it. It's a Hot Dog brand.

For Electrical the building has 100amp service. I ran three circuits for outlets (left, front, right sides), and two circuits for lighting, one for the furnace, I have a 230 30A for the compressor, 230 50A for the welder and a future 230 for a lift.

For lighting I have four 6 bulb HO T8 Metallux fixtures. Man these are super bright. I think I may get 2 more 4 bulb fixtures near the front entrance. I also have 4 vintage benjamin lights for task lighting hanging from unistrut. I have another four, two will hang over the front work bench and two over the welding table.

The welding table is surface ground 1" plate on a 6X6 1/4" wall structure. It weighs about 1700-1800lbs

I made the wood topped work benches. The frame work is 3" square tubing and 3" angle iron. The tops are double 3/4" plywood.

I need some ideas on storage. I have plenty of height. I am planning a 4 foot deep shelf across the front and a 2 foot deep down the right side.

Any other ideas for wall storage would be appreciated. my goal is to have nothing on the floor from the front work area back. Any cool ideas on low profile wall cabinets to cover stuff???

I was a little concerned that white walls would be like an asylum, and with no windows I wanted something bright. I think the color is flame yellow from Home Depot. The original plan was a safety yellow, gray, black, theme. But then I came across the lights, and the Sinclair sign so I may do a little more Dark Green. People definately comment..

Nice place! I take it that it's not at the Motorplex in Eden Prairie? With the high walls I think some tall shelves with an industrial version of a rolling ladder like they used to use in libraries would be neat.

Definately not the motorplex:):) This place is nice but nothing like that! The ladder idea and crossed my mind using skateboard wheels....

OK, here's another update. I went to a architectural recycling center in Minneapolis last week and found these vintage 1948 steel cabinets that came out of a state mental hospital. At first I wasn't too hot on the mint green but I think they look pretty nice with the other colors. I had two cans of or rustoleum tinted to match that I will use on the welding table and metal work bench.
As a side note the cabinets have cool labels inside like "discharge meds", and one cabinet had a safe in it labeled as "narcotics". It's still locked, so maybe I'll get lucky when I get the lock picked:)

Next picture is of the new sign I acquired for free tonight. Our building at work is built on an old farmsite and a few of the outbuildings are still at the back of the property. I was showing the shop pictures to a guy a work and he said one of the old buildings had a sign in it. I’ve looked in the building before but never saw anything. So I went back there after work with a flashlight, hammer and a crow bar. The sign was nailed to the wall facing the studs, so it was not noticeable other than the fact vandals had peeled it back exposing the yellow. It took about 20 minutes to get the nails out and the sign was tweeked pretty good so I laid it flat and just walked on it for now. It’s pretty big almost 6’ tall. It will look great on the wall…

I got the Hot Dawg plumbed and exhausted, and fired up, and I bought a compressor and got it wired up last night.

If anyone is looking for a compressor TSC stores have a good deal in Ingersol Rand 2 stage 80gallon compressor for $999. Seemed like a good deal for a 2 stage anyway.

Next up is more storage for metalworking stuff, jack stands etc.

Those cabinets look great. Good find.

Just wait for the day when somebody sees the narcotics safe, notifies the authorities, and next thing you know your garage is being torn apart! :lol_hitti :pimpflash

Nice Walker sign. My last name is Walker.

The shop is awesome too! I wish they had something like that around here. I can't find a decent building to buy, or at least one that I can afford.

Ouch!...:), but yes the cabinets do take it down a notch. I have a few more signs to put up yet (and more to find)

I'm anxious to get back on the '34. Last summer I picked up a fresh 392 Chrysler Hemi for it..It will be a fun car with a Super T-10 and Quickchange rear.

I'd google large cities in your area. In Minneapolis there are probably a 6 or more larger businesses that specialize in reclaimed building stuff. A lot of materials from old schools, hospitals, hotels, bowling alleys, restaurants, homes, churches. Virtually anything you could imagine from intricate iron work to radiators, ornate woodwork, carvings, lighting, great places to kill a Saturday morning! Some stuff is marked high, but cash is king..

Where do you go to find a place like that? Sounds great...

Thanks everybody for the comments...I'll try to keep a few more pics coming as I make more progress. I am thinking about a 12X12 mezzanine from 4x4 steel tubing with a gantry for lifting..
