Just installed my Fahrenheat FUH5 heater (Dayton G73 clone) in my shop today. I already had a sub panel in my shop, so adding the 30amp double pole breaker and the 10/2 wiring was a breeze. It hasn't got real cold as of yet but the heater took my 16x22 shop from 46.6 degrees to 70.3 in 62 minutes. The fan is very quiet and I couldn't be happier. There was a bit of a haze in the shop as the heating element went through its initial burn in but that was to be expected.
Here in Iowa we can have a 6-8 week span where the temp never gets above single digits. With that in mind I will have to be realistic and understand that my concrete slab is basically a giant block of ice. I'm most comfortable working when it is around 65, so I think i'll be fine.

It will be interesting to see how this impacts your utility bill.

However, like you guys we get cold here in Kansas in the winter too, and when I need to work in the shop the meter just has to spin....in winter I'm still pretty comfortable down to the mid or even low 50's in the shop, I just wear a sweatshirt. But when your hands can't hold the wrench - it's too damn cold to work....that's when that heater will really feel nice!

I'll keep you posted. Curious myself. Since it will only run as needed, maybe 15-20hrs a month, I don't anticipate a problem.
I've read hundreds of reviews leading up to purchasing this heater. Most people are very happy with the energy cost as long as you do not run it all the time.

I clocked mine at 4 runs per hour, between 10~15 minutes total, in sub 30 weather. That was on "LO" on the dial. 65ish is just about right in the winter. I could turn it down a bit and let it keep the shop in the 45~55 range without killing the light bill. But I only did that when we were expecting some extended cold. You don't get a lot of that around here. 34 this AM, it'll be 80 on Sunday.

I think that this is the route I will be going as well. I have a 20x22 2 car attached garage. I found it at Blains Farm and Fleet for 229. I cant see the price difference for the Dayton at $410. Mine will be used to keep the garage at about 50 degrees through out the winter and 65-70 when I am working out there. I would like to add a T'stat as well. I may have to order sooner than later. I need to add insulation in the ceiling to really make it worth while. I have drywall on the ceiling, but thats it.

$229 is a great price. I paid $259 and got an additional $10 off with a coupon at northern tools. My neighbor has a Dayton and the only difference is the Dayton decal on the front. I don't get it.

I was considering a heater like this but thought I should just go ahead and get a wood stove (considering where I live is surrounded by trees? but I honestly hate cutting wood my garage is about 650 square feet think that would still do fine? and whats the warmest you've gotten it?

It would help to know where you are. Here, I can get 960 sq/ft workable with the G73 without a problem, but it's not 20F every day either. If things don't change pretty soon, I'll be running the AC all winter here.

OLD thread but how much does it cost to run this? I am looking to heat my 2 car attached garage which when it gets down to 10F' outside it's only 32 degrees in the garage which makes working on anything super un-enjoyable...etc.

I feel like electric would zap the bills up super quick.

Thanks,
-Nigel
