It's been a couple of weeks since my last update.
The floor was poured on 10/31/07. The ridge vent was installed along with all the windows and the lockset in the mandoor. The siding is getting delivered Tuesday 11/13/07 and the garage door is going in Thursday 11/15/07. Not sure when I'll start the siding, but I'm hoping it will get installed without having to wait until spring.

Hopefully you'l get a few days weather that we are having. The temps went back up to 68 yesterday with some sun. More like April than mid November. Garage is looking good BTW.

Thanks-
Yes, 65 today and tomorrow. I've got to get another coat of paint on the garage door jamb before it goes in on Thursday. If I can get my siding guy over this weekend we should be able to get a good jump on the siding.
Then I can get my kerosene heater in there and work on the subpanel and wiring. About 2 more weeks until my 28days are up for the concrete cure and I can get my truck in there for the winter too.

out of curiosity, why did you decide to use foil faced insulation on the outside of the walls instead of fiberglass insulation between the studs?

Prodex insulation is to provide an R14 insulation value. A friend of mine used it on his house that he built last year and raves about it. I decided it would be worth the extra money using that over any tyvek type wrap (which I believe provides R0) :bounce:

I do plan on also installing some R11 insulation (in fact I have 30 rolls of it already up in the attic) after the electric is done. I got the r11 (50sq feet per roll) for $8 each. I'll only need about 15 for the walls downstairs and the end walls in the attic; but the other 15 are a start for insulating my brothers 24x44 garage.

So theoretically when I'm done, I will have an R25 in the walls. I figured it will at least keep the chill out this winter while I'm running the electric. I won't get to installing insulation until next summer most likely.

Re: Dipper's 20x22 build update -- 3/3/2008

Just updating with progress so far. I started wiring the garage in january, plenty of outlets on all the walls. Cooper Metalux Parabolic interior lighting is installed, plan is to use a drop ceiling about 4-5" below the ceiling joists and have the lights drop right into the t-bar tracks; typical of a commercial type of installation.

I've got to finish up two exterior outlets, and add in an outlet for a future TV and speakers then all the wiring will be pretty much done. Hoping the weather to break in the next couple of weeks so I can get the siding started.

I work part-time at a discount home improvement store - I picked them up for $10 a piece. A bunch of them had 277v ballast's in them (a big reason why they didn't sell at the home store), but I scored some new 120v ballast for free from the full-time job and replaced/rewired them as needed.

They should look pretty good once the garage is complete with the drywall and drop ceiling. I gotta bunch of little stuff left to do too (just got done making a list..ugh) so I can get the walls closed in asap.

Re: Dipper's 20x22 build update -- 6/5/2008

A little garage update: I started the siding in early May, it only took me about
2 days to get it 90% done. I still have a few things to finish up on the siding, mainly just some soffit work to get it all done. I'm hoping to have my final inspection in the next couple of weeks. I did a little landscaping around yesterday and got some grass seed planted. Hopefully get to tackle the rest of the soffit this weekend.

The siding went up pretty easy once you get all the accessories installed.

I'll attach a few pics but more can be seen here:

hey nice looking garage! I have those same exact lights in my garage, just 2 of them though in my 20x19. I pulled them from a dumpster from an old office renovation downtown, they even had 277 ballasts too and rewired them also.
