I have seen a few photos with garage walls painted other than white, what are other colors that have been used?

Btw, love this forum....so many great ideas. My garage 3 months ago was a mess, my wife today said it was almost to spotless.

Tan is a nice color for my garage...it goes with the house. I love some of the paint schemes guys are doing on garagejournal, but if I did that it just wouldnt fit with the 'burbs If I were a true 'shop' guy I would go all out with stripes, checkerboard tiles etc. But Im just a homeowner...

If your shop is at all on the small side, or, if you really like light, then go with white. It will make the space bigger and really make the best of the light you have. I painted the inside of my shop white and with eight ft long - four-light fixtures, it is BRIGHT!

I can't stand a dimly lit shop.

I went with white, and I just finished repainting them to get ready for my new compressor max jax lift. I moved cabinets around which forced me to freshen up the paint. I like how it brightens up the garage, next up is the FSK paper for the ceiling for reflecting heat back into garage.

I went with a very light gray. I didnt want white, and I didnt want to lose valuable light by choosing a color too dark.

I scrubbed the walls top to bottom, they were a mess after 8 years of washing cars in the garage, nice even coat of light mold with dirt/engine soot and misc stains cover over the walls and ceiling. Long story short after all the scrubbing they look near new again, couple touch up and they will look like they did 8 years ago. Problem is flat white paint is not the best for the way I use the garage. The shop is 28 wide by 22 deep, not huge but good for me.

So far white seems to still be the first choice for most. Maybe I will go with a semi gloss. Open to more suggests, thanx for the responses so far.

This is one of those things you don't really believe until you see it. My walls and ceiling are white. After the ceiling was painted it looked higher. After the walls got painted the space looked bigger. Too bad somebody can't figure out how to make it real instead of just an illusion. We'd have a whole lot of white garages. :)

I wanted something other than white but still bright. I brought the white down the wall and painted the walls yellow with an orange border stripe.

Paint comes in only two colors, black and white. Black is too dark for walls.

Said the caveman. Then one day caveman's wife mixed the two and made gray. The rest, they say, is history.

LMAO for both!! :bounce:

No drywall up yet, but I'm going to use a very light grey, and am strongly leaning towards using white steel for the ceiling.

For a really wet area like this, high gloss would be the way to go. It wipes down the best, has the least "tooth" to hold water and debris, and seals the wall the best. It does show imperfections the most though. More ventilation is probably in order.

The reason I would go against white is for welding. If you have anyone else in there when your welding the light will reflect off the white more and is more like to give who ever isn't welding some sore eyes the next day. I know protection for both but if they are working on something else on the other side of the garage with a hard object blocking the actual work surface your welding its nice to have both people going.

I've always though about a lighter grey color that would still keep things bright but not reflect so bad as to cause problems for the others.

While my walls aren't painted (yet), I do plan to paint them a little differently than most. Here is what they are now...

Here is the color I plan to use for my walls. THIS is NOT MY CAR...just showing you the color I plan to use...

Here is the color I plan to use for most of my accents (the unistrut I will run around the entire garage), shop equipment and cabinets. "Fudgescicle Brown..."

I don't really want to stop and paint the walls right now, but I am about to hang that framework and a lot of unistrut on the wall, and it seems silly to pull it all back down, just to paint the wall.

My walls & cabinets are light gray, ceiling and trim white. The paint I used is the Valspar "Kitchen & Bath" enamel from Lowes. I chose it because I wanted a semi gloss paint, and I thought the mildew resistance would be a good idea in the garage - and they don't make a Valspar Garage Enamel :D It's been a couple of years now and it still looks as good as the day I finished.
