How does the Crescent Double-X Pliers compare to the SK & Gearwrench versions?

How do they hold up to daily usage or long term usage?

from the article -- "Since Apex and Danaher are now in bed with each other, I would assume that these will be identical to newer Gearwrench-branded models."
I've had the napa brand(danaher-taiwan) I bought from cripe dist. they aren't too bad. don't know how they would hold up to everyday use, probably be ok unless you try to bend 1/8" dia steel wire with them. I used mine for working inside door panels, and the bent nose pr made good spark plug wire pliers.

Im thinking about getting some of these. Was at an aircraft symposium and an old guy was selling little oddball tools that at the time i didnt put much thought into. Boy! if that guy was still around I would buy up ever single tool he had. One of the things he had was US made? sk double joint pliers. he wanted way more than list but that was the first time I had ever seen them.

But yes. And they are generally rigged so that the head opens wider than a stander set of pliers per the amount of opening you put on the handles. This helps in tight spaces when you dont have much hand room. I would get them if it wasnt right before x-mas and the boss told me no personal shopping.

Good luck

I saw them at my local Sears on BF but was unsure of quality, did no pre-buy research and the price did not seem like a great bargain at the time so just settled on the Irwin Cobra knock-offs at $12.49 instead.

The double-X's sound like a neat idea and good product with little exposure and a tiny manufacturing source.

Have been on my radar for over a year but no real need from my end to rush out and buy.

Are the Gearwrench identical to the Crescent aside from the handle?

Sears has them out tethered to a little stand where you can try them, played with them when I picked up my Vortex sets to return last night :p

There's a lot of flex in the steel handles and you can't get that much pressure on the tips, not sure they're pliers as much as they are retrievers IMHO. May be good for fishing wires?

I won a free pair in a drawing and they are great for grabbing stuff you dropped, but I haven't really had a scenario where they perform as pliers.

Are you saying a standard set of 11" pliers work better than these double x pliers? Do you get twice or triple the force when using the standard pliers? Any one compare the two through real usage?
