The one in Adrian is close to me, but I usually go to Ann Arbor. They have a much better selection there.

I'm just surprised that the Sears near me wasn't on the ax list right away. I think the HF across the street from it gets more foot traffic than the entire Sears store :dunno:

There are 2 large store near me that SHOULD close. Livonia, MI and Waterford, MI. I worked at both of them while going to college.

Both are basically ghost towns. The Waterford store is part of Summit Place Mall (a.k.a. Pontiac Mall). It is the last major store (maybe the last store period) there.

40+ years ago Livonia was the largest (by volume) store in the US. It was the "anchor store" when that mall was built in the 60s. The rest of the mall was torn down several years ago. Walmart built at the opposite end. There are a couple of "islands" of small stores, not connected.

It is scary/sad to drive by these stores, even during the Christmas buying season and see almost empty parking lots.

I'm pretty certain Sears owns both of the property and in the current economic situation in SE MI, if closed, they would become eyesores for many years !

One store about 30 mins from me is closing. (Lees Summit) They just built a Chipotle next to it though...not sure they should axe it just yet. That area is getting better. But what do I know...

I'm surprised the Sears anchor of the Kyova mall is still running. I guess Ashland, KY must be able to support it (since there aren't any others nearby), but it's slightly concerning when 95% of the mall is void of any real development:

http://www.abandonedonline.net/commercial/kyova-mall/

Sears and Elder-Beerman are on one side.... the rest of the mall is dead (except for a Bon Worth), then there is a movie theater and a restaurant on the other side. That's it for the entire mall.

Perhaps this picture sums it up best:

Funny thing I was reading an article in the paper about Sears and the author thought that in the last six years Sears should have come back strong, but Sears made to many mistakes and now they are paying a heavy price.
