About ten years ago I bought a Husky 41" top and bottom tool chest at Home Depot. Been using at home untill recently when I got a job as a diesel tech at a Ford dealership. Doing that for the last year and half. As most techs can tell you, you will run out of room in you box pretty quick.
So I deciede to look into getting a side locker for all of the tools that come in blow mold cases. Searched alot of different brands, Mountain, International, Waterloo, etc etc. One day was flipping throught the mac tool cataloge and notice a box that looked almost identical to my husky. Out comes that tape measure, identical measurements, drawer count and size.
Took the plunge and ordered a side locker. All the mounting holes line up perfectly.
Later on was talking to mac tool guy and found out the their Canadian plant that makes the toolboxes for mac struck a deal with Home Depot to sell them toolboxes with the husky logo. So I got a Mac toolbox with a husky label and it cost about 700 dollars less than a Mac.

A guy I know has a husky box looks almost identical but it's black with blue draw pulls. Very well made, not like the **** they sell today. Awesome box wish I could find one like it. I was in HD yesterday and the prices they want for those junk boxes are ridiculous. You can get a HF built better for less money

That box can be bought as a Proto too. Some of Mac's old 26" boxes were rebadged as Huskey too. Those boxes where shared between all the Standly brands. This was back when Husky was USA made and tring to be a good tool brand. Anybody remember the signs in the tool area saying they would replace broken SO or Craftsman with a new Husky? I do.

Don't have a picture of it, but I got a nice husky box in about 1995, it is 26" wide and a good 18 deep, sits on top of my craftsman roller at work, (another nice box from back in the day, from around 1990) The Husky is a real nice made box.
Has the lever in the top you slide to the left to lock the drawers, then the top locks.
If I remember, I will snap a picture of it at work and e mail it home.

I have that same bottom box. It's been a very good box. I wish I would have bought the top box also. A couple of years later when I went back to get the top box, they had been discontinued. Ended up getting the black top that came out after these were dicontinued. It's not nearly as nice as the red ones are.

Yes, made in Canada in Smith Falls, Ontario in the former Beach factory that was acquired by Stanley in 1987. Now closed...

I have a feeling we better get the HF box's while we can too. Won't be the 1st. time HF did away with a good product.

I have that same Husky box. If you look in the "Show your toolbox" thread my post is #4056. My wife gave me the combo as a Christmas gift. A year later I went back to HD to get the first side box. That was around the time they were changing over to the newer black line of boxes. I had a heck of a time getting that side box but I finally got the right info to give the store by calling Stanley direct to get the SKU and model numbers. A year later I decided to get the second one. Well, all the info from the first order was no good. HD couldnt get the box at all. The good news is the box was still being sold under the Beach label, the bad was Beach was pretty much sold in Canada. The Husky and Beach boxes both have regular drawer slides, not ball bearing. I think you have to step up to the Mac box to get that. I was able to speak to a woman at the factory in Smith Falls that gave me that info. I think when the boxes were first sold at HD they were made with the better drawers but after they started to gear up to sell the other boxes they changed. The second box cost me more than twice as much as the first but at least I have everything set up the way I want. I only keep stuff like nut drivers, ball drivers, adjustable wrenches, anything thats fairly light in the sides.

That was the old Mac Economizer series box. They had two versions, 26 or 41 inches wide. Pretty good boxes as long as they're weren't overloaded or moved alot as they tend to crack along the back edge.

Same thing that happens to all companies when you get a bunch of people with mba's and little to no real world experience. They cut cost at any and every possible place. Trust me I know. Saw it happen alot during my enternement with HD. All they see is the metrics.

Resurrecting an old thread – I found this thread while doing a little research on the 41” Husky Box (cabinet and chest) that I bought around 2004. I see from the thread that the consensus is that they came from the Beach Factory in Canada, which makes sense because I believe Stanley was making Husky tools at the time. What started me on the subject is that I found Waterloo offering a near identical box.

Do you folks think Waterloo picked up the contract for the box or did they simply copy the design? The Waterloo website is also pretty clear that, at least the larger boxes, are made in the USA from US steel.

Waterloo only has certain boxes made in USA. The entire HD line is Made in Mexico. (Which is a very good quality box)

Similar designs, but not the same. Beach designs were pretty much kept by Stanley and I believe made in house in the states now. If you go over to Proto's website and look at the 26" boxes, you will see a lot of modernized beach designs.

I realize this thread is 2 years old but I just came across a Husky box similar to what has been discussed. I was trying to find out if this was actually a mac box. I had an identical mac box in the past but it was Yellow. This box is very well built and is MUCH heavier than my 52" husky that I have.

I just thought I would share.20180405_223828.jpg

I have A husky tool set from that age(2001) that came with a 3 drawer flip top tool box(for free) and I saw that sign about taking in CM and SO busted tools. Me thinks I got a great tool box and some usa stanley/proto too...

My 104pc came in a red plastic blow case with the tools diagram on the top lid. Still have the tools & box, no red carrrier. Those tools are pristene and were great to work with

Hello everyone. I have a chance to buy this same tool box for $200 but the black one. From what I’m reading the black one was not made by Mac and not as good. Possibly doesn’t have ball bearing drawer slides and such? Is it still worth $200. Seems like it’s a good buy for the amount of real estate.

This is a ZOMBIE THREAD

SPG has gone out of business a victim of NAFTA. They made high quality boxes and boxes for others.

I'd pay 200 for that and I don't even NEED another toolbox.
Haha that’s what I thought. It’s only 20 minutes away too. I do need it. I actually scored a vintage snap on for free that my mothers husband left her when he passed. I will be passing out down to my son for sure. But it’s not enough space for all of my tools. What’s kind of neat is that there is a magnet name plate of the snap on rep who sold him the box. Bummed I can’t make out the name and area.

Your box and the one in the first post were made by Beach. Decent boxes but not super heavy duty. A great buy at $200.

I just picked it up. Quite possibly this is one of the Mac made toolboxes. It says ball bearings on the box.
