That's awesome, would make a great elevator to lift stuff up into my over-door loft. I was thinking about making something like this, but hell, might be easier to buy one (I'll have to consult with my wallet).

I used a 1" x 3" piece of wood to hang all the Christmas wreaths in the attic with a similar approach - but not motorized...

I have one of these. I use it to lift the bikes out of the way. Its well built and works great. That said, I don't like it much. I have standard height ceilings and the bikes are nowhere near high enough. I thought of building a "box" or platform to lay thm on but haven't figured one out yet. I am afterall, still trying to orginize my garage!

They sell a platform attachment, that could/would work for you.

They do? I haven't seen one. Link?

***EDIT***
Never mind, I went to the page there and I see the platform. It will be no better. Notice how far down from the hooks it hangs. Thats a good 3 feet. I guess I could take up some slack but how stable or unstable will it be then?

Did anyone see the dimensions of the platform? I have 2 non-motorized hoists that I really like, but do find it a pain to crank them up and down.

Thanks TEXACMAN!

I haven't been here in a while and saw your post and said damn
that's what Ive been thinking of make space in my shop!

Googled the Gorilla to check pricing and reviews.

Costco has the Gorilla for $169 with a coupon. Order online and that
price includes shipping. Only till Tomorrow 12-16-07!!!!!

Northern's web site had it at $199.99.

The in store price at Northern was $229.99. The store will honor the $199.99
If you print it out and bring it to the store.

So I bought it today from Northern and installed in my shop.

This unit is intended for use in a residential garage but my shop
is a steel building with a 14' roof.

I had to build a cross brace to mount the Gorilla from the steel beams.

Installation was a little more involved than a regular garage.

The frustrating thing was removing the damn tape from the cable. Ha Ha!

I bought the 250lb rated Gorilla and I had to help push my roadster body to roof
and it and the dolley don't weigh anything close to 250lb.

But other than that I'm very happy with it.

 Looks like you found a use for it ! I bet they would get a kick out of seeing a car body hoisted in the air with there product!:bounce: I would like to build a loft in one side of my shop and somehow make it swing over too it after you hoist it up. I have my 51 Chevy hood and other large parts that are taking up space that would be better off hanging from the ceiling or somewhere else in my shop .
