2.1 Logictech speakers with woofer hooked up to my phone (Pandora) or iPod. Radio is pure fail, and if I really want to listen to it, I can stream it via wifi or 3g on my phone.

I finally took my home stereo out to the garage today after it sitting idle for the last 10 years. I use a Yamaha receiver and Polk 10's. I hope to have it hooked up tomorrow.

I don't have a picture of this, but in my dads garage, he took a trickle charger and used it as the power source to run a Philcco 8-track car stereo, sourced from an old Lincoln. The speakers are 6 x 9 units mounted in 5 gallon thinner cans along with 2" tweeters in each of the cans. This thing has been running for 35 years. Cheap and easy to build.

When I built my house, I pre-wired all the rooms for sound that included 2 built in ceiling speakers (Infinity 8inch round speakers) for each garage. My sound system (which is made by Zon) includes a controller/amp in each room that independently plays any audio input source. So the garage gets fed by my Pioneer receiver in the house, which gives me a ton of options.

The controller is the small gray unit just below the left side of the dart board.

My cheezy old 1977 vintage Panasonic that used to live up in the house and now does duty in the garage. Even has a REAL wood case. Won't find that today. The speakers sit up in the floor joist spaces. The 47 Chrysler tailights didn't come with it. Just thought they made a nice conversation piece.

It's not a radio or stereo, but it does say "Wurlitzer High Fidelity" and will rattle the rafters! :pimpflash

I've got a decent receiver and 2 speakers on top of it for my shop stereo. They work great, go up louder than I will ever need, have a A - B switch so I can hook up outdoor speakers and just have those on when i have a party there.

Now ... I we have a real nice Onkyo Stereo in the finished part of the basement, I think it puts out 700 watts or so total, has 4 speakers and a powered Sub Woofer. We havent used this stereo in probably 4 years or more so I mentioned it to the Wife that I am thinking about putting everything down in the shop and putting the shop stereo in the garage. She is all for it .. no problems at all.

But now I am asking myself .... do I really need all that stereo down there ? Its one of the Computer models that simulates Arena, Auditorium and the sounds of other types of venues. We purchased it in 94 - 95 and I'll bet it hasnt been used for 10 hours. Where in the shop it would be on from the time I walk until the time I leave.

I already purchased 500' of speaker wire so I could put a speaker in each corner at the ceiling.

Deliema is ... since the stereo I have down there works fine ... what am I going to gain by doing the work needed to wire and mount the speakers and the easy part of moving the stereo down there.

It would just be for bragging rights, thats the bottom line.

I don't think it matters, but I have to have some music on when I'm in the shop. I robbed the old one off our patio. I promised the wife a new Bose dock as a replacement. My shop is all metal so a little sound goes a long way.

The HU and cd are old components that have been in the garage about 18 years. The cabinent keeps them clean. The speakers are a set of Acoustic Research units that used to be in the house before going with built ins. I welded a set of brackets that hold them to the wall and angle them in. The wiring all runs in the wall. The HU is hooked to my garage PC because most of the time I listen to Pandora or mp3's. It also feeds a set of outdoor speakers on our covered patio. We eat outside a lot in the spring and summer so it gets a lot of use.

I have a couple of Sony separates, a tuner/amp and a CD and a couple of cheap speakers. The CD is barely used as I tend to use my iPhone via the aux in of the amp. The tuner in the amp is shot so I'm looking for a docking station for the iPhone which has a BAD radio built in! I do miss The Archers on a Sunday morning on Radio 4!

This with shed loads of music in iTunes, my workshop is right next to my office so I can hear it well enough for the moment, but plan on running the PC into an old Stereo amp soon piped straight to the workshop, this is my place of work but doubles up as my man-cave.

I used to have a laptop connected to a receiver. I would listen to radio now and then, but Internet radio is so much better. But, you can even get tired of that if you don't change your settings every couple of days. I've listened to about all the CDs I'm ever going to hear. A dozen times through an album over some time and it sits in the rack unplayed for months if not years.

I have an Ipod touch that holds most of my tunes to plug into the stereos. My smart phone also holds most of my music so I can use that when I don't have the Ipod with me. Hopefully soon we will get high speed internet at our new place so I can test out Pandora and the other streaming sites people mention on this forum.

In the garage is a Panasonic(El Cheapo) DVD Home Theatre system. Got it from an uncle for free . It didn't play DVDs very well so he was getting rid of it. It plays music cds just fine and it has am/fm tuner. It has a little powered sub that puts out enough bass to satisfy when I'm in the garage. For now, the little speakers sit atop the Seville cabinet. At some point I will get all of the speakers hung up around the garage.

In the shop: I just picked up the Kenwood 5.1 100watt per channel receiver off of craiglists. I blew up my former Sony 5.1 receiver when I cranked it up too much a few weeks ago while having a couple whiskey cokes. DOH! I have a set of Pioneer 12" floor speakers which have Blaupunkt 12" car subs installed. Blew up the factory subs years ago. The car subs are only 4 ohm so I added 4 ohm power resisters to equal out the resistance so the receiver doesn’t overheat. During our recent move, one of the resistors broke off. Hence, the receiver overheated when I really cranked on it that night. So disappointed in myself. The Sony receiver did a great job for the 16 years I had it. Also have a pair of Jenson 12" floor speakers from my father n law. Along with the Kenwood receiver was included a small Panasonic powered sub. I still have to mount the speakers on the wall. I can make a lot of sound in the shop. It's great when the kiddos and wife are in the house sleeping! I can crank it up and none of them can here it! WOOHA!

Made a drawer out of the passenger side lower dash panel from my old 79 Camaro. This was the radio that was in it while I was in high school. Later pulled this panel out to put a two knob radio back in the car. This panel sat in the attic for a while until an idea hit me. Made for a perfect garage radio with a power supply from a computer my brother gave me. Didn't cost me much to put together because I had most of the stuff on hand. Also comes with the added bonus of a digital tuner and (6) presets! Disregard the half done bench, it is getting there.

Nice Camaro Boyd. You are starting to make me miss mine. Stop that. :) That lower dash panel is begging to be yanked out and made into a shop stereo.

I was on my way home the other day and saw a couple of stereo speakers sitting behind a wood 2 drawer filing cabinet on a guy's driveway apron. I went by thinking "my wife wants a file cabinet like that and I could use the speakers in my garage. I wonder if it's moving day or garbage day?"
I kept going a couple blocks while thinking about it and decided what the hay, I'll go ask.
Pulled in the driveway and the guy was in the garage, So I got out and asked that very question. He laughed and said the garage sale was never going to happen, so those are being curbed.

Awesome! I'll take them!

He watches me load and I told him my wife was going to be happy and I now had some speakers for my garage.

He says " I've got another pair of speakers in the basement."

I said "How much?" He says free.

I said "you are a terrible salesman, you'll never earn a commission, I'll take them"

So, he hauls these gigantic speakers out of his basement and I start loading.

"You want the stereo those were hooked up too?"

"Sure, how much?"

"Free, I won't have to pay $20 to get them recycled"

"Sold!"

Out comes the stereo, all the wires, the remote and the cabinet. So far, the only thing I've found that doesn't work is the tuners station display, but the remote already has three of my favorite stations programmed in it, so I'm good to go.

Now you know what I'll be doing in my garage this weekend, A speaker in every corner.:D

some damned fancy audio out there!

i thought it was a universal rule that garage audio had to be pre-1980 and look like it's been thru a war zone?

I think the Sony stuff is early '80's, so when you think about all the Duran Duran and Madonna those poor bastards played, they should get a medal!

It doesn't seem to play very well. :dunno:

That was after a trip to the floor. :lol_hitti

I replaced it with the one I swiped from the daughter's room after she moved out.

Drawer dash is the coolest. Does it come in Ford Ranger or Mustang? :)

Here's mine.....borrowed from my wife. We use it less in the house since we have Galaxy via our satelite TV. I also have a set of powered speakers so I can attach my PC or Galaxy smartphone.

My 1985 Magnavox system finally crapped out a few weeks ago so I've just been turning up the crappy computer speakers in my office. I just started listening to internet radio and I love it!! Iheart is the only one I've found that doesn't have ads and DJs. (and it's free!) Now I want one of those smarty phones so I can listen in my truck...
