Well I finally had my 20x30 garage built this past fall along with a new fence, shed, driveway, and cement work. The yard took a beating so I'll have to do lanscaping later this year. I'm getting ready for electric and then insulation and eventually sheetrock. I'll probably do T8 HO fluorescent lighting. I've been on the garage journal and got some ideas but I would like to see some of your set ups. I'd like to see where your tools, compressor, work bench, and so on are located in your garage to get a good idea on how to lay mine out.

I know some of you will ask why didn't you go bigger.Long story short, I purchased this guys garage on craigs list last year for $1200. He delivered it to me on a 24 foot trailer with all 4 walls attached,no roof. I painstakingly took it apart this past summer including denailing everything. I salvaged most of the 2x4's,6's,and 8's,the rafters, and joists. The 3/4 T111 was weathered so I decided to vinyl side it with new sheathing. I also salvaged a 100 amp sub panel along with the breakers, outlets, switches, wiring, including about 40 ft of 220 wire. At the time this was what my finances led me to do,would I do it again,no way.

Ist night in new home.

Looks good, great job on recycleing the old garage. That had to be a lot of work getting that old lumber ready to reuse. I always try and save old lumber if if I can. How much did you end up spending to get it to this point?

So lots of concrete work, block work, asphalt, pavers, new siding, shingles, door, big time heater - and oh yeah, a GSX! But you're short on finances??? :headscrat You either have the ideal set of tradesmen-friends or all the above is why you're short on cash. ;)

Regardless, it looks awesome and I always love it when someone can recycle an old garage. My dad's doing the same thing (with a garage about the same size). Paid a lot less, but had to tear it down/haul it away himself.

If the garage will basically be dedicated to the GSX, I'd orient most of the stuff (box/bench/air compressor) along the back wall. Keep the sides relatively free and clear and put shelves/cabinets on the sides.

I agree with keeping everything towards the back wall.

Off topic, RaysCyane can I see more pics of your '68? Your avatar looks very familiar

:thumbup:Thanks to all for the nice comments and suggestions. Yeah the key word was "at the time" . I purchased the home last year and found the garage shortly afterwards so cash flow was low at that time. I've had the car for 7 years,it was in primer and needed work when I bought it. I did just about everything myself except paint. I welded in new floors, some interior work, and installed a fresh rebuilt engine.

Very nice, well done on all accounts. Whats in the mini shed, lawn care stuff?

Thanks,yep mostly lawn stuff.

Thanks,it was a lot of work and I actually had enough after taking the old shed down to have a new shed built also. I wish I had saved some of the weatherd 3/4 T-111 for the garage attic floor, but I got so sick of looking at it spread all over the yard. You can see a pile of it behind my Road Runner. I had to clean up the yard and I'm hesitant to show how much I had to throw out but here goes. There still was some good wood there.

I had an electrician come over and I actually found a guy that let me work with him. I needed him to hook up to the house main panel,it was a little tricky being I had hardly any room left. We had to double up and look for some unusual quad breakers a 50/20 and a 15/40 which nobody had ,finally found used ones on ebay. Anyway I decided to go with LED recessed lights for my general lighting and an 8ft tandem 4 T8 bulb fixture for the work area. Home Depot was running a special on the LED's,I wound up installing 13 hi hats. Looks real nice at night, hard to take pics of but I'm real happy with them, and very easy to install. So I have a sub panel in the garage with about 20 outlets, most are at about 30",I didn't want them that high, and about 48 inches for the work area,2-220 outlets, and I ran outlets at 7' on three walls for clocks or maybe some neon lights,TV,in the future.
I thought two cars in here would be too tight, but it turns out to be plenty of room, well more then I thought. Next up is insulation and probably drywall.

Nice place you've got yourself. Going to be drywalling the interior at some point? I'd imagine you've got quite a few photos of the resto of the GSX that would look great blown up and framed on the wall
