Hi folks. Im brand new to the site and I need some advice on how to do my floor. I have a 22 x 30 garage. Half of it was painted many years ago with a latex base epoxy floor paint and the other half has an unknown type of gray floor paint that was put on when the garage was built in the early 80s. I just got three 5 gallon kits of PPG Megaseal . Im assuming I'll have more than enough to do the floor but Im not sure how to prep it. Im planning on doing this job in the early spring when I can get my cars out of there for a week or two. Im going to rent a POD so the garage will be empty when I do it. I thought about borrowing a floor buffer and using sanding discs to sand as much of the original paint off as I can. Is there something better to use that I can get at a rental shop ? The guy that I bought the paint from told me to use a foam roller to apply it. From what Ive read in other posts thats seems like its good advice. I also have a large bag of chips that a friend of mine gave me. It was from the Rustoleum epoxy kits from Home Depot that he used to paint his basement floor. Do you just spread them on or would I have to put a clear on top after its done ? I dont mind just having a gray floor without the flecks. Since the floor is so old do I have to seal it or use anything to etch it so the paint will adhere better ? The original paint has been well abused from having brake fluid, thinners, enamel reducers and who knows what else dumped on it over the years. Plus in the winter the tire chains on my JD 425 have torn it up a little. After the epoxy is down I plan on never using the chains again. Im working on a car right now so the whole garage is a mess but once this one is done that will be no more projects coming my way. I just want to do this floor right so it lasts and I dont waste alot of money on materials for nothing. Can anyone give me any tips ? Thanks in advance !!
