I'm going to be retiring from my desk job of 32 years this fall and moving to Arkansas to work as a mechanic for my Dad at his sports car shop. To that end I've been looking around for a decent toolbox to put some work tools in.

Recently I found and procured this Matco toolbox off CL for $725. Not the prettiest, but it's square, the drawer rollers are smooth.

It's a fairly typical mechanic's toolbox (I guess), 8 drawer lower box with a top box with the normal 3 lower drawers and 5 narrow drawers. The toolbox was fairly full of cheap hand tools with some throwaway (unnamed), some decent (Craftsman), and a sprinkling of the good stuff (Matco, Mac, Proto, etc).

Right now I'm busy cleaning everything out, going through all the tools, getting them organized, etc.

So, I guess the madness is resuming!

Y'all have a good one,
Mike

Wax job.

The locks work? because i'm not sure if you know about the leg-growing phenomenon that's going on with tools these days.

Scientists are still baffled.

Tool Box Alarm, I bought one for 20.00 at Home Cheapo but have not installed and tested it yet. It has a remote so when I go 10-100 I can arm it to keep them leg growing tools where they should be.

Thanks for the comments, folks!

Haven't put a tape measure to the dimensions of the drawers, but I guess I'd call them "full sized". Big enough that one of these will fit with room to spare:

Locks work on both boxes, and as far as the wax job goes, the first day was spent peeling off enough stickers that it looked like a kindergarten class project!

I'm really looking forward to working with my Dad and brother. I'm a decent DIY'er, problem solving is, as y'all know, both frustrating and satisfying when you get it fixed.

Here's my latest project:

Take one of these:

Throw in about nine months of work, and you end up with this:

She's a hoot to drive, but I've got to re-learn how to autocross! About 700 lbs lighter than my '00 Vette. Crazy running with a set of fairly sticky tires and having them break loose at 60 mph in 2nd gear!

Y'all have a good one,
Mike
